That was awesome! Great answers by both of them. Never knew why Roddenberry left the show the 3rd season - it was always cast as he didn't care anymore. What he said make sense.
As a Star Trek Fan, I hadn't heard this interview before. Its nice to hear Bill and Gene both discuss Star Trek together. Bill actually comes off as both insufferable & egotistical but slightly thoughtful & intelligent especially when he discusses the prime directive and themes of the show. Gene comes off as a bit contemplative about his tenure creating and producing Star Trek. As Spock would say Fascinating .
Thank you. Never heard it before. Very insightful. The Prime Directive was something they took very seriously. (Although Shatner makes a little joke about it, he does agree with the philosophy. Strongly.)
Captain Kirk is a character up to a point, in Star Trek V and Generations Shatner played himself. There is a lot of Nimoy in Spock. None of the actors who took over the role of Kirk or Spock came close.
I think Spock's character changed dramatically from the first season of Trek because Roddenberry was not there, and Nimoy didn't want to change his character for every new director they'd be assigned each week. He'd lost his major supporter by then. He was the only one in the same character from the 1964 pilot. Spock was almost emotionless by the third season.
Kirk and Spock would have zero trouble pointing out WHO the real enemy is to the Earth that have kept it in perpetual war and financial servitude, Shatner and Nimoy probably wouldn't.
These two men created something enduring and eternally hopeful. Thank you Gene and Bill.
the most honest answer by an actor ever. yes indeed actors are themselves first.
That was awesome!

This is from the Star Trek record that came out in the 70s shortly after Star Trek's popularity went ballistic.
Fantastic tidbit from Gene and Bill...LOVE IT!!
LOVE IT!! Thank you for sharing this FANTASTIC Clip., Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
I still have this record...

classic
I loved the show. It was brilliant in all aspects and prophetic, too.
Gene Roddenberry, get off my bridge! That was great.

Thank you for your vision of the future Mr. Roddenberry. Doesn't look like we're going to make it through.🖖
this was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
In love how he merges into capt kirk
Yes, Star Trek had the writers and actors that BONANZA had, but Gene & co. changed science fiction forever in my mind.
“A Candid Interview between William/Jim and Gene Roddenberry in Audio only.. 🖖🖖”

Hello from 2019!
Brilliant!
Yes, very nice!
I'm assuming this was recorded around 1979.
If memory serves, I believe it's 1976...
I'm not sure how to process Gene Roddenberry pronouncing the word "fatigue" as "fatig".
Very Good!
Man this is cool
I have this on the original record.
A Gem. =)
You kicked the Great Bird of the Galaxy off the bridge?!? 😲
0:34 - "By any Other Name" - but I don't remember that planet scene?!?
Remastered CGI effects
i found it on google - i guess i just typed in "´William Shatner" - with the " included
why doe the people call william shatner "bill" instead of "Wil"?
Kirk and Spock would have zero trouble pointing out WHO the real enemy is to the Earth that have kept it in perpetual war and financial servitude, Shatner and Nimoy probably wouldn't.
Sagacity...what da!
William Shatner actually makes very intelligent dialogue with Roddenberry here, particularly at the end.
It's a shame his vanity has overwhelmed him.
Nonsense, it hasn't.
Shat still brings it with History Channels "The Unexplained". "With me, William Shatner". Great stuff.
there was no Hispanics on the bridge, why? The whole Star Trek is FAKE FOLKS!
Know about Commodore Mendez?
@@christopherallen9580 Yes.
And no LGTBQ+!
@@WinrichNaujoks Yes there was, Mr. Sulu.
"Oh my."
