I’m Mexican but after watching the first episode I was hooooked and I could relate so much even though I wasn’t Muslim and now I wanna go to Egypt so bad UGH IM SO HOOKED ON THIS SHOW PLEASEEEE COME UP WITH SEASON 2 ALREADY
I am incredibly impressed with the series, it can be a little hard to watch sometimes because you see mistakes and you're like NOOO don't do it lol ...but it's very smart, funny, poignant, it exposes ridiculous ideologies and bad stereotyping from practically everyone. there's so much to unpack and learn from it. all the cast are so talented and amazing and I'm proud of Ramy Y. to have accomplished this. ♥ well done, can't wait for season 3
Up here in Canada we had a show called Little Mosque on the Prairie. It was about a Muslim family living in a tiny rural Canadian town. It was a pretty good show but I’m as white as snow so I have no real idea if the representation for Muslims was good or not. But I like to think it was good cuz it showed them as just some normal people who happen to be Muslim.
The fk You talking about?? A show with Muslims as normal people, I thought that was non-existent. Haaaa, dude , you were fooled. We Muslims are nothing like that . You'll know when you meet us for real . We are hella scary. 😏😜
Abdul Nazef I got a few friends that are Muslims from various parts of the world n it’s not them that are scary it’s their parents😂 they’re super nice but when they get pissed at my friends it makes me wanna hide lol got me cleaning the house with them saying “sorry momma”😂😂😂
I really loved this show. I grew up in a Christian home, and for a long time I was a millennial struggling to be the best Christian I could. I found that I had a lot in common with Ramy and my family had a lot in common with his too.
I haven been super excited to watch Ramy ever since the trailer was uploaded.. but my country doesnt get Hulu service 😭😭 I am not American or Arab but I do live in a country that being Muslim is not a “normal” thing. I struggle (in many ways) too. Even if I haven’t watched the show, I really appreciate that it exists

I have seen the show half way, It was scary to see the situations in which what Muslim-Americans go through and how much culture plays the role in which kids grow up and how much struggle they do to be on track as Muslims.
As a muslim I can tell you this show isn't unapologetically muslim. Im a millenial muslim living in the west & have other muslim friends- we're all on different spectrums of practising, but even the most messed up one, of all of us- doesn't go and sleep with a married person. Like that just doesn't happen if you're practising(its a different story if you're 'culturally' muslim but not actually practising the religion). I feel like the show was overly sexualized & really reaching in that sense , to pitch it to a white audience & I wish he'd have gone all out & not given into the need to please. There were aspects of the show that were relatable in fairness -like the double standard muslims guys have towards muslim women, the guys get alot more freedom than the girl, living with your parents and the post 911 after math & obviously the humour in dialogue was on point.
Sidra Mir thank you for your comment. I also live in the west and this show normalizes every sin known to man. Yea, not everyone practices and we all have our struggles. But saying Muslims pretend that sex is not an issue, makes it sound as if we are all sex crazed people who pray in the morning and party at night. I'm just really disappointed with this show and I feel for those who will take away such an image of Muslims. That being said, I do understand that sex sells and Ramy played his cards right in that regard :-/
So there are shows with white people who commit adultery. We need the good, the bad, and the ugly represented. We are not all saints no one group contains all saints. Representation needs to be on every spectrum stop asking for these completely perfect examples of every Muslim because truth be told there are 1.7 billion of us and a lot of us are not perfect in one way or another.
@@vannakinder352 we're not asking for perfect examples of muslim representation but just asking for relatable ones. I'm tired of seeing the same tired narrative where the 'religion' is an obstacle or hindrance to living in the Western World- my religion isnt the problem for me and for alot of others- it's the culture , racism and post 9/11 times we live in. It seems like these shows always show every Muslims bending over backwards to fit in asking for validation- it's not relatable to actual Muslims in real life
The thing about representation in media matters & should be criticized & held accountable for images presented. For me my line always falls are they showing a 3 dimensional character. Highlighting humanity of minority group. You can’t do everything in one show. Hopefully the success of this show can lead to more Muslim American or similar based series.
I don't think this show was intended to be a representation of muslims, So I generally think it's great.I do think he portrayed all women as sex freaks, which improved in season 2.
this show just completley missrepresents muslims. it makes stuff like zina, alchohol and drugs seem like normal things a muslim would do when in fact muslims usually stay away from those things. the show had so much potential like they could have shown the struggless of a hijabi in america or the struggle of finding a job instead the whole show is about sex, like every single female that the main character has an interaction with and they end up having sex even his cousin.
@Said Akil Muslims struggling with the Hijab or finding exists - but that's NOT the majority. The MAJORITY of Muslims DO FACE trials with regards to drugs, having boyfreind-girlfreind relationships....you're speaking of the 'headline' type of unique Muslim issues only. There are MANY basic moral problems the average Muslim has to deal with - and this show PERFECTLY reflected that reality. We're talking about Muslims at the basic cultural level like everybody else. Hijab and finding jobs? WOW. Where had no idea that a Muslim might struggle with that. That's so cliche and you missed the entire point.
We are talking about food, that complies to a certain belief. Keep it with the food. If it tastes nice, it does. Religion have a very small place on this video. Recognize how ignorant it is to say what you said. You do you. You dont need to tell anyone what you believe in.
Heard it was very cringy. Not planning on watching it at this time but happy that we are indeed getting that representation even if not everyone is getting represented. Like he said, hopefully those other future programs/shows will come up in the near future.
I like the show but hate the Hollywood aspect of it. Why so many useless sex scenes? Why did you have to make the uncle gay? Ramy is a sellout that’s it.
First of all it's just a character on the show not the "real " Ramy, even though he use the same name.. prob. There's tons of Muslim that didn't do what Islam tell us what not To do, the point is he just showing us we (Muslim) are just like everybody else..not perfect, just human, make mistake , double standard, sometimes hypocrite about something..
