  • In our continuing efforts to revive some vintage radio control boats that haven't been in the water since the 1990s, we get 2 classics out on the water. This video is the first runs of the PT-109 and PT-169. Both are Lindberg 1/32 scale models of the PT-109. Both have been customized to look closer to the real boats. They also both run pretty close to "scale."
For details on the R/C PT boats, check the website here: myplace.frontie...

Got one I haven't run in 30 years. Thinking about getting it going again . What motors do you have installed can you show some photos and specs?

Also consider a 40 amp fuse.

To prevent the boat from catching fire;and sinking, taking $100+ worth of r/c hardware with it;to the bottom of the pond, you should consider replacing the old, outdated, and obsolete brushed motors with modern water cooled high performance brushless motors. They are pricey;and will cost you about $95.00 MSRP to $150.00 MSRP;depending on the brand of brushless motor you choose.Different manufacturers of brushless motors charges different prices for their motor kits, but spending the extra money on a good brand of brushless motors is well worth it.

We have considered that but these boats aren't right for brushless, it would be to fast and the inside is weird so we can't put water cooling in it. But we did change the motors to modern brushed.

@@HandfulOfHobbies glad you swapped to new brushed, the original systems are a fire hazard on anything other than easy pool going. i inherited a project one last year from a passed family member, hadnt been on the water since the 90's also, she overheated on me twice before i went to a newer 15t brushed setup. Which was fine until i replaced the half chewed up props. To much load on the motor so i ended up adding water cooling. Just get a u bend of copper tubing, cut it at a j angle, bore a hole back between and forward of the props about an inch. Graft it in, couple rubber hoses and graft another copper pip out the back, i did 2 smaller ones with a Y connector and a inline mini water pump run off a secondary battery which also powers the lights. Also if you want it to handle better and ride up on plane add two little tabs to the back of the hull angeled downward, sweet spot for mine is about 15° and they are .5x.75 inch aluminum. Cheers mate n hope your still enjoying her!

    What size motors in pt109?

Both PT boats use 27T 540 brushed motors. One of these days I'll simplify and just run one motor and maybe put in a small brushless motor. I don't want more speed, but a brushless motor won't get as hot
