Chris Ballard has had a miserable 8 year run as the general manager of Indianapolis • 61-69-1 record • 5 head coaches • 12 quarterbacks • ZERO division titles • Only 1 playoff victory • Team blew a 33-point lead (largest ever)
Ballard HAS had a miserable 8 years.. however your line about 5 head coaches is terribly misleading. Here's why: First of all, it was technically 4 head coaches; yet, 2 of them should not be counted against Ballard because he only hired 2 of them. Chuck Pagano was apart of the old regime and was never going to be kept by Ballard after 2017. Jeff Saturday was a Jim Irsay decision and an interim fill in after they fired Reich and waited on Steichen to finish his year with the Eagles. To cite "5 [4] head coaches" as an example of Ballard's bad tenure, is an egregious manipulation of the data, taken out of context to push a narrative. Everything else is totally true.
Ballard should have pickup Baker Mayfield when Cleveland Brown was trying to get rid of him. At the time we needed a QB. Ballard did a good job of finding mid to late draft. But Ballard draft poorly in first rounders
That would have been the best decision at the time. Bakers balling out and he even listed the colts as a team he wanted to be traded to. Sucks to suck he’s playing like a top 5 QB now statistically.
I don't see how so many people like Steichen. Bad game management, poor play calling, didn't use AR to his strength, mishandled the benching drama, mishandled the back spasm with media, and constantly saying "I'm the HC, it starts with me." but not doing anything to fix problems on or off field. Yeah, Ballard and Bradley are a problem, but Steichen has to have some say with the team, and he did nothing.
I'm not a football mogul, just a fan. I would like to see changes but don't know what is best. All I can see is that the team that is put together now is a failure! Who is to blame? Coaches, GM, Owner, players? I just hope we can make some major changes to turn this thing around! Let's not focus on past regressions but look ahead toward what new changes could bring!
I want to see Jason Bean start the final game. Zero expectations and he was the best looking QB on the roster during preseason. Let's see what he brings.
Getting rid of Chris Ballard but then going another year with Richardson as the QB accomplishes nothing. The team has talent. They need a new DC and a new QB. Nobody can say Ballard hasn't brought talent in. The coaching and QB play is horrid
You should do a deep dive on the years of Ballard missteps. Campbell over DK, trading for Buckner instead of drafting CeeDee Lamb or Justin Jefferson, first round pick for Carson Wentz, Philip rivers over Tom Brady, just to name a few. Taking into account all the moves and misses it’s really amazing
But if you really look into the Wentz trades - what the Colts gave up for him and then got back when they traded Wentz to the Commanders - it would up being a nets positive. They got Pierce, Raimann, Ogletree, and Downs while giving up picks that netted Chauncey Golston and Jahan Dotson. That's a hell of a deal.
I don't know if Tom Brady was ever in the running for us to be honest.. And you can't really say Buckner trade was a mistake bc we passed up on Ceedee lamb or Jjettas.. Buckner is consistently a top 5 DT and whos to say any of those WRs would want to stay thru the qb roller coaster we have lol
No one wanted DK back then. Buckner over cee dee lamb for what we needed at the time was a great move actually… Phillip rivers over Tom Brady Lolol, Brady wouldn’t have came here for any amount of money.. you need to do a deep dive Ricky miller, whole statement made no sense… and I want Ballard gone lmao 😂😂😂😂😂
Outside of playing the DBs past the sticks on 3rd down, my biggest issue with Gus is the team’s poor tacking and technique. He knows it’s an issue, but has done nothing to fix it.
The difference between Polian and Ballard is when Polian walk into the building everyone knows to come in and works work hard, and don’t mess around. Everyone behaves. With Ballard, he wants to be everyone buddy and not create a culture

How many first downs were resulted from missed tackles? Through most of the year we had Cross and Franklin in top 5 in tackles, that means you can't get off the field, poor def, poor schemes.

You have to have pretty good QB play. Look at the jets and all the talent they have. Still underachieving. Dolphins without Tua, Hill and Waddle were non-existent. Better QB play changes everything. Keeps the defense off the field instead of always on the field.
Here is the cost of not selling out for a QB in the draft, 12 qbs paid and wasted. Ten years without a division title 8yrs with zero playoff wins. Yep whoever says it costs too much to invest in a franchise QB is right. It costs too much NOT to. We are the perfect example. As important as the qb position is every draft a QB should be selected. High. If even for competition and trade leverage. Every franchise begins and ends with the qb position.
You want examples? The colts went from laughing stock to perennial sb contender in two years. The commanders and Texans went from laughing stocks to playoff teams. The chiefs went from irrelevant to a dynasty. Name the last 20 plus sb winners ALL won by who? FRANCHISE qbs.
Meaning all these teams I just mentioned just relied on “luck” that they happens to suck bad enough the year prior and fell into a franchise qb. No plan. No vision. Just luck. Is that what you really want to believe? Lol. Hmm. If that truly is the case then it’s obvious these teams only value winning all if it happens to fall into their laps ….because that’s the damn truth.
Ballard has done great with the back end of the roster, but has failed miserably on superstar power. He needs to change his draft philosophy if he remains.
With Anthony Richardson as the QB no talent to trade up in the draft to select a QB who would want to coach this team? Ideally they would get ride of everyone that gets a paycheck from the Colts.
We need a Head coach that holds people accountable and will bring a winning culture back to INDY. We need to move on from the AR project and get a durable and cerebral QB that demands excellence and will be a leader on and off the field. Defense needs a total reset starting with a new coordinator.
Bradley is only guy that NEEDS to go…..if Colts could sign Vrable, the team would be fine. Everyone wants to blow up the team because they are afraid to win…..they know that buys you five more years of excuses and mediocrity…..…l replace Bradley and this team wins immediately….. when you blow up a team it takes five years….. id rather hold those accountable and Im glad Irsay is more apt to do what I say.
Colts blew it up after 2016 and they took a year to reset and then went to the playoffs two of the next three years. People want to blow it up because Chris Ballard has failed to self-scout accurately and replace mediocrity.
There’s a minimum of 4 games lost by the defense this year. Think how different things could be ! Bradley gotta go! Ballard can go too, for getting “high upside” draft picks 🙄🙄🙄

Id say that means when you say the cost is too great to move up in a draft that means you simply don’t value winning enough.
The SEC lives rent free in Sterling’s mind. Get over it old man.
JT at least top 5 r 10 but how they got 62 idk
Ballard has done great with the back end of the roster, but has failed miserably on superstar power. He needs to change his draft philosophy if he remains.
He has made it clear that changing philosophy is not on his to-do list.
Chis Ballard is terrible look at his record
Thanks Kent. But yes this weekend we embrace mediocrity..time for a change Colts fans deserve better!
Free Agency seems a crap shoot.
I like this, i think Vrabel would match Shane's aggression on Defense
Ballard is horrible, he signed zero big free agents, the receivers need a good veteran to help them. 8 years of trash is too much
If the culture is bad than many people have to go. Period
There’s a minimum of 4 games lost by the defense this year. Think how different things could be ! Bradley gotta go! Ballard can go too, for getting “high upside” draft picks 🙄🙄🙄
But who is to blame for defensive lapses - Bradley, players - or both?
@ I’d say both, actually. There’s blame everywhere, and unfortunately some goes back to Steichen, as much as I like him, even if it’s tolerating sub-par results 😏
@@KentSterlingballard for providing Bradley players that cant play. And Bradley for continuing to have a horrible scheme. And players for being soft
Ballard has to go!!
Right after the game or first thing Monday morning. We don't need to hear his end of the season bs
