    Well done. Tough day out there. I did it last year and I will not complain about our weather after seeing what you guys had to go through. Great video. Love your enthusiasm for boston very cool to see. It is a special race. See you in Chicago. Keep up the great work

      Thanks, Jonathan! It was tough, but memorable, for sure! To realize my dream of running Boston after so many years is meaningful beyond words. Just wish my Mom was here to see it. At least she was with me in spirit!....I am planning on organizing a meet-up/Shakeout in Chicago in case you're interested. I'll post details in the Community Page in the coming months....Thanks again!

    Yes, you should be proud of your achievement. You started from almost-zero after your surgery, Covid, and ITB - and ended up finishing The Boston Marathon. That is a HUGE accomplishment! Don't feel bad that your time was slowed by the heat - you did a great job in the race. As you already know, I was in Boston to watch the marathon and go to see the Expo speakers, including our summer Olympic Marathon team and other running stars like Amby Burfoot, Bill Rodgers, and Kathrine Switzer and Dave McIllvery, Race Director, all of whom had speaking engagements at the Expo. It was a great Boston weekend. Congratulations, Bill! You're a Boston Finisher!!!!!

      @@oldmanvanrunning Yes Yes Yes! You should forget about how the heat slowed your goal time - you know you are capable of it - and just be very very proud of how you went from knocked off your feet, flat on your back from surgery, Covid and ITB, all the way to gliding through the Finish Line of the historic Boston Marathon. Huge accomplishment!

      Thanks! It took me some time to reconcile the disappointment in my finish time with the reality of the challenging conditions. When I look back, finishing in just over 4 hours despite how much I struggled with the heat for the final 11 - 12 miles is pretty darned amazing to me...Context and Perspective!

    Congrats on getting that unicorn!! Hi from a fellow Boston 2024 finisher. I had basically the same experience, rode the struggle bus for most of the 2nd half and ended up 25 mins slower than projected finish time. We got it done though! And thanks for sharing footage from the mile 27 party, I was like this 💀 in my hotel and couldn’t make it over. Sounds like you have some nice summer races lined up. Hope you are basking in the recovery and immense sense of accomplishment!!! 🎉

      Congratulations back at ya, Monica! We definitely did get it done!... Glad I was recovered enough to get to the Mile 27 party. It was touch and go for a while, but I made it for the last hour....As for the upcoming schedule, it's great to be able to do some short and faster races after the long winter training slog. Best way to reinvigorate oneself!...Enjoy your accomplishment as well!

    Mr. Bill - Aaaargh! You should have taken the Green Line "B" train toward Boston College from Government Center to the Hynes Convention Center stop - and saved your legs from extra walking! There are five Green Line trains, so it can be confusing to pick the right one. This was only my second trip to Boston - I really like the City, but I still like my hometown of Pasadena, California and my new hometown of New York City even better. I did the Duck Tour, and that was fun!.

    That unending maze to get your bib was crazy. Ran Boston a few times in the 2010's, and it never took anywhere near that long to get your bib. Yeah, Boston is a tough course even in ideal weather. You suffered a lot, but you finished the Boston Marathon - not many people can say that.

    I was chatting with "someone who knows" in Boston about the crazy long line and Expo set-up. because it annoyed me as just merely a spectator trying to get into the Expo. He told me that the BAA had previously considered an Expo venue further out from downtown with more space, but City officials "wanted it downtown." Races and expos bring out-of-towner business to hotels and restaurants and shops and public transportation, so I guess the City was more interested in the tourist dollars than in convenience of runners.

  • @cathynewyork7918
    @cathynewyork7918 7 місяців тому

    You didn't focus on the faded gray sweatshirt in the glass display case at the Expo. That is the sweatshirt that Kathrine Switzer was wearing in the 1967 Boston Marathon - back in the days when women were not allowed to run the race - that is the sweatshirt she was wearing when the Race Director famously tried to push her off the course and rip off her race number. You might have seen that famous photo - it was widely published in running publications and websites. Kathrine went on to become very influential in getting women admitted to running races and in pushing the Olympics to organize a women's marathon in the Olympics.

      @@oldmanvanrunning The sweatshirt in the display case very briefly appeared in your video, but you didn't really focus on it because you probably didn't see the sign explaining its historical significance. You can Google that famous photo if you want to see the incident of the Race Director trying to pull her off the Boston course - very historical for the history of women's running.
