Why is this making me cry? This is such amazing work, saving lives, empowering local people & providing jobs, and creating a better future. You can donate to Apopo on their website and buy mercy to support them! ❤️
Had a pet rat as a kid. Loved that thing. They're great when clean etc. When she died, still fluttering her whiskars until her last breath, I knew true heartbreak. The truth of losing something you truly love. Godspeed little rats, we're proud to be your custodians.
Some people have pouched rats as pets and from the little I've read about them they're quite a bit harder to bond with initially than your ordinary fancy rat, the norvegian variant. Pouched lives 2-4 times longer yes and has probably the same learning capacity which makes them suitable for jobs like these, but I'd think twice before getting one as a pet. Because I had normal fancy rats, and it's a work, a rewarding and satisfying work, but still a work to bond with them. You really need to understand what you're getting into with this kind of thing and do a little research beforehand. That said, my respect goes for these guys and their rats especially, keep it up!!!
I loved the last scene, the rat running alongside his trainer like a well trained dog. Don't judge a creatures worth by it's appearance or size, anyone can be a hero.
This is so amazing! Such incredible rats! I love them, I have four rats as well (fancy rats, not giant rats, all though I would have them if it was allowed)!
saw a demonstration of these rats in Cambodia. They're really the ideal minesweepers - surprised they haven't gotten more funding - there are only a couple dozen working in Cambodia. i'd think since they're so much easier to work with than dogs or people the idea would have taken off by now. do people have such an ingrained aversion to rats?
Incredible and inspiring! Great jobs, Rat Friends. And, good on those smart people figuring out these super smart ways of making the world a safer and better place.
I don't feel so bad cringing like a girl, the African bloke was apprehensive too. I'm a Canadian city boy, i don't know about rats the size of an opossum. It's amazing the work they do though! Go team Apopo!
Northern Africa is still pretty heavily mined from what I understand. From WW2. German and allied forces mines. Fortunately I live in Canada, a nation that has never really seen war. We have that privilege.
The lady said her favourite rat was Olga, thats funny, I was photographing the rats in Cambodia recently and I met a rat named Olga ! I saw one rat find a Chinese jumping mine which a CMAC deminer then dug up.
Which is a good sign. If you had rodents in your home your cat wouldn't be so laid back. My cat loves to lounge around but the odd time we get a mouse in my place and she's all over it "working" until she catches it. Rarely kills them. I'll get it from her, give her a treat and put the mouse outside. I don't kill them. Mice are just trying to survive like the rest of us.
you think god wanted people to place landmines around so we could use rats to find them thereby fulfilling a rats purpose on earth?? :O bit of a stretch don't you think?
God does not play drama or any scenario . Humans are to blame for drama .chaos.mayhem death .illness .To blame God is Not taking responsibility. Explaining away the issue is not good enough.
Mines were planted by humans not God. Why do humans blame God. There is no evidence that God planted Mines all over the world. This is the work of the deadly humans.

War is hell. But these little creatures and their handlers give you faith in humanity.
Their little harnesses are so freaking cute omg
I know, I couldn't do this job I would be fired from hugging and playing with the rats so much 😫😂😂😂

Del yes but the rats are helping a lot
Proud 🇹🇿
I wish Ghana would also adopt this technology
I love rats and the people working with these creatures.
The thing I find most astonishing about them is they lactate at will.
the rats or the people?

Just terrific! I wish all animals in laboratories were treated like these ones instead of experimented on--#SaveRalph
This is amazing.
incredible Rats tho lol
every living being in the world has an important role to play the drama scenario of God.
Not everyone is aware of it.
