Slight objection: a good *character* doesn't have to be a good *person.* Morris is a good character because the role he fills in the story is an effective one - not only in opposition to Pierre, but as a bit of a foil to the farmer. You're *from* Joja, but you can't escape it even in this small town. Also DCBurger's Morris can get it tbh.
I was going to post the same thing. Morality isn't tied, intrinsically, to being a good character, just a good person. Darth Vader is a good character but clearly an evil person as an example.
Okay but the most wild thing about mayor lewis is the fact that he picks the new person in town to be like "hey I left my underwear at Marnie's can you befriend her to a level that it is appropriate for you to go into her room and get them for me?"
He doesn't know that's where he left them. I think he asks the farmer because he's afraid of embarrassment from the more established members of the community.
I so totally agree with the perfection thing. I’ve only been playing stardew since July so I only have 2 farm saves so far. I’m working towards perfection on one save and I’m about to hit year 6. SIX!!!! I’m about 65-70% done with the perfection goals. It’s absolutely an insane achievement, and to get it in under 2-3 years kinda does say that someone is a good stardew player, but the thing about a sandbox style farming sim is that there’s a million ways to play it. Concerned Ape created perfection as a late game achievement to keep people interested, not as the end-all-be-all in measuring stardew aptitude.
Emily is happy, stable and already lives in the middle of town. Great member of the community, takes care of unemployed sister etc. Pretty obvious she'd win vs. her competetion.
Unbiasedly (or in my opinion idk), I don't think saying "Haley isn't the best" is or should be considered a "hot take", because that's what still most of the community would say anyway. It was always more of a hot take to say Haley's the best, rather than saying she's not. Yea she's gotten pretty popular ever since Chappell's song, but most of the community remains the same with her, plus it's personal preference anyway, not really a hot take.
Everyone says haley is the best but ima be honest in all my playthroughs i only married her once and thats the one in playing now, every other one was someone else but in terms of character development i think theres better than her
@@BiggyMalk Most of us Haley fans would agree she's the best, but it doesn't compare to the rest of the community because they will tell you otherwise. Development tho, she does actually improve a lot, not only how she is with the farmer, but also with her sister. Her relationship changes with her sister and how she feels about her, she basically goes from cold to a heartwarming person with both Emily and the farmer. Especially with spending her money, at first she only seems to care to buy clothes and go shopping for herself and not really seem to care much about others. But on her 14 heart event, she turns out to make a charity cake-walk to raise money for Penny to buy new books for Jas and Vincent, since Penny mentioned how expensive it is to buy new ones. Any character can be unique in their ways and their improvement, not sure if we can say she has the best development of all characters exactly since it may depend on the person, but she still does have one of the best.
5:46 My first exposure to stardew valley was a Lummi short that youtube randomly decided to give me. I was already biased towards liking Haley when I started. But after playing stardew multiple times, perfecting it, marrying multiple people, etc, I agree Haley is best girl forever. ❤️
I wouldn't call stardew uplayable without mods but there are some mods that I find very difficult to play without now. Namely, NPC map locations (I have no idea why this isn't in the base game honestly), and CJB cheats for a bit of extra speed. Chests Anywhere is also a one I use heavily but I could live without it if I had to
I really like the mechanic in Potions Permit, where you can have your dog find whatever NPC you're looking for. It would be great to have something like that in Stardew.
If it were to be added into vanilla, it would probably be weird. Although I think it should be correlated to the friendship system in the sense that locations only become visible when you've reached a certain amount of hearts with the person.
Slowing or stopping fence decay for me. Having to replace them all the time feels like such a waste of resources, especially early game when I'm trying to upgrade my barn, coop, and house
11:56 -New sve playthrough trying out the romanceable rasmodia female wizard mod : however the pun robin cracks about the player being on board with the new community quest sign along with the other small interactions in the first couple seasons make me remember my first playthrough and Robin crush all over again... The sad truth that most plays first marry Leah because they couldn't have Robin... Maybe next playthrough will try the mod where you can date Robin.. In the same vein, Pierre and Caroline are not in a loving relationship and there should be a mod to split them up and take Caroline as well.
13:15 I picked fruit cave only for CC completion. I get my energy from Chub or Salad. My first 10K went toward fish smoker. It's a game changer for income and energy.
My hot take is that Demetrius is a worst dad then Pierre, because he’s been emotionally abusive towards his step son Sebastian since this kid was a toddler, also Robin enables it because the fact that Sebastian lives in the basement despite there being room for him upstairs is telling, he talks about how he wishes he had a window
I was so dumb when I played for the first time and thought I grinded to try and marry robin and found out I couldn't and YES Sandy should totally be romanceable but I think the reason you can't is because who would replace for running the store
Rather than having Sandy leave the store... I say she still keeps it... And gifts us monetarily, instead of items the other candidates do... Also I would love that the candidates expand further after marriage... Like Abigail being full blown adventurer, Leah and Elliot actually pursuing their artistic dreams, Shane becoming a successful animal breeder, etc...
I actually like Morris. He has his staff throw a kind of party for us and even gives us what’s probably a very expensive soda machine. Also we don’t know what kind of stuff Pierre has done too - after doing well one day, he could have easily reversed the walking into Joja mart with coupons like Morris did. I mean sure, the community center is nice when it’s done and everyone is happy. But I’m a Joja girl in 90% of my play throughs especially to unlock the greenhouse quick.
I also Morris isn't too bad... As compared to Pierre (who essentially steals from you), he barely does anything bad in the story... Aside from brining in a corpo shop to a small community... And TBH, most players rarely buy anything from Pierre once the Night Market rolls in...
@@ChaosMind10531Yeah, why buy from a store that's open every day when you could buy from a market that's only open 3 nights a year? Oh wait. Because that would be goofy as hell. I like the night market, but Pierre is reliable. A bit dull, but reliable.
man i hate pierre, if you sell him high quality goods, he takes all the credit for it. however, if you sell him below average goods, he makes sure that everybody in town knows that it's from your farm😂
I have to agree about the Fruit Bat Cave. Much easier to get stuff for the Community Center. I also personally enjoy the Mushroom Log a lot more than the mushroom cave, and the free dehydrator now isn't really worth it.
Penny is a really slept on character. Her role as a teacher is so much more important than anyone gives her credit for. Sure, shes a bit of a damsel in distress in a way, but she's a sweet girl from a fucked family dynamic trying to do good by all, and admits to her faults. She's genuinely a good person. Her 'arc' may be more subtle than others, but the fact she's seen as a boring character really wrecks me. She's real, she's kind, and in a world of wacky and mystery, she's a breath of fresh air.
hot take the forester profession is better than the gatherer profession, especially since the lumberjack profession gives a chance for all trees to drop hardwood
I always pick the mushroom cave, I hate not knowing when theres gonna be fruit, meanwhile in the mushroom cabe the schedule is more recognizable. Plus, if you choose the mushroom cabe in 1.6 you'll get a free dehydrator that works with 5 of the same mushrooms, increases the price(I hate pierre so i chose joja, sam and shane wirk at joja so they would loose their job!)
... maybe Lewis is a priest... He does marriage ceremonies after all. We dont know much about Yoba or the traditions of it so maybe those are traditional yoba clothes he wears.
My hottest take: Demetrius is a good character. He and Robin clearly have a good relationship despite their arguments, y'all are just jealous, and he shows a willingness to change his protectiveness of Maru depending on what route you go with. The only thing I cannot forgive is the fact that he never acknowledges Sebastian's existence. Otherwise, very solid character.

Lummi calling the fruit cave better because there's an alternative for mushrooms (fruit trees exist for fruits) and because she doesn't wanna gamble with the traveling cart (the fruits literally spawn random fruits at random times???) is HEINOUS behavior since only one between mushrooms and fruit has a way to guarantee you get the community center items 💀💀
It bothers me so much that after marriage, the spouses don't even hang out with their friends anymore. Marriage should NOT take away a person's autonomy or other relationships! It just... feels bad.
Morris is still better then Pierre, considering hes at least honest with his ambitions from the start. Pierre will admit that he wants to own a chain of stores and become rich, but he knows he cant do that at joja so he hates them.
I agree about the spouses. I married Elliot and he becomes a leach. I do appreciate the watering of the crops and such but there is no monetary contribution and no wrtiting going on that I can see.
Perfection isn't that hard to achieve, I'm like 10 millions off it on Switch right now and I'm in Winter Year 3... Also, I can't touch grass, I'm a water type, it's super effective 😊
scalding take; pierre doesnt deserve caroline. how they're even together is beyond me. (other than staying together for the sake of Abigail). there's a reason why she would prefer Asmodius over him. but let me sip my tea over here with my caroline dateable mod 🍵🍵🍵

Personally, I think Lewis is far worse of a creep. Most of Clint's creepiness comes from a place of not knowing how to approach people. Obviously, he was not revamped when Emily became romanceable, so when the farmer is in a relationship with her, he seems especially weird. He gets a bad rep, and makes questionable decisions, but he's no Pierre, Lewis, or Demetrius in terms of hatebility. Edit- Had to change a word because auto correct is stupid.

scalding take; pierre doesnt deserve caroline. how they're even together is beyond me. (other than staying together for the sake of Abigail). there's a reason why she would prefer Asmodius over him. but let me sip my tea over here with my caroline dateable mod 🍵🍵🍵

I think Clint gets a bad rep 🥹
Think about it, if Clint is the creepiest guy in your whole town you're in a really good spot 😅👌
Not like New York or somewhere like that, where you'd find 15 people who make Clint look like a great choice in comparison during a 10 minute walk 🫣
