    I'm a mechanical artisan and I edc almost identically at work and home. When I travel I add on a couple more items. I get a lot of "You carry too much unnecessary stuff - when are you - for what are going to use it?" comments and jibed and mocked a fair amount too. Until something happens then I'm the first one to get called... because all of a sudden the unnecessary became a necessity..

      I worked in construction all my life and for decades bought cheap footwear.... Cause it just gonna get beatup right?. I finally upgraded to Georgias at $240.00 and they were the most comfortable boot i ever wore. And they last 3-4 yrs. If you wear uncomfortable footwear it throws off stance, walk, posture...then your back. You end up paying for it. Go with quality, you deserve it and you'll be more productive. Treat yourself right.

    I'm a civilian and have absolutely no need for most of this stuff... but the CARABINER. Once you start carrying a carabiner, you can never go back. It is almost infinitely useful. Everyone of every age should have at least one on them at all times. I put them on my keys so I can quickly get to them or latch them to my pants.

    Former Air Force here--it's funny watching this video because i wasn't SF but a Loggie. But when i think about it my at-home kit/deployed kit are kinda similar. I had a gerber knife, gerber multitool (easier to open one handed) and mini-maglight on an elastic belt. Later upgraded to a riggers belt and a stronger LED light. Notepad and pen standard for any airman lol and a watch so that I can always be 15 minutes early for everything I need to be at. Even had the carabiner clip for my work gloves. Then i started thinking about it and said to myself "only thing i didnt carry was a first aid kit and tourniquet". Then i thought about it some more and was all ohh wait i did have that stuff. In SABC they taught us as a last resort to use an ID card to close up a sucking chest wound and of course you can use a belt as a tourniquet.

      I think that any professional has a method and items they can't live with out. Some are very similar and some are not. I would always worry about people who didn't carry anything on them for their job. You can always tell who takes things seriously or not.

    Finally.....Security Forces....just like I thought. I am a Former Security Policeman 6 years Active/9 years Air National Guard and I can tell you I wouldn't trade my time in the USAF Security Police for anything ... I was stationed at Dyess AFB for 3 years in the Strategic Air Command..we had a squadron of B52D's..4 Nuclear uploaded on alert at all times. We also had 3 squadron's of C-130's. I did Fly Away Security. We trained 4 times a year in ABGD at Ft. Hood Army Base against the US Army 7th Calvary Scouts. I was on one of the first EST's..Emergency Service Team's (SWAT) in the Air Force. I got to attend the FBI SWAT School and we got to put on EST demonstrations along with the Combat Control Team across the street from Security Control. (We loaded on 2 C 130's with a Combat Control Team climbed to 20,000 ft., the CCT did a halo jump. After deploying the CCT the 130's spiraled down and did an Assault landing on a dirt strip. We deployed in our Armored vehicles out the back of the C130's and took the objective, reloaded with the nuclear weapon we recovered from the "Terrorists" and did a Assault takeoff)!! I was stationed for 1 year in Turkey at a secret MUNSS site. I was the NCOIC of Arms and Equipment for the Security detachment and also the Team Leader for the RRT ( Recapture and Recovery Team) a joint Turkish American Anti-terrorist Team. When I rotated back to the World, I was assigned for 2 years at Langley AFB, VA to Headquarters Tactical Air Command. The unit I was in is the Tactical Air Command Guard...we were the Security for the CINCTAC (Commander and Chief Tactical Air Command..4 Star General). During my time in the Alabama Air National Guard I got to go to "Sliver Flag Alpha" in Indian Springs, NV, the USAF SP Desert Warfare and Survival School. It is what you make it, I did a lot of different things in the Security Police Field....AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE... except for the time I spent in a Turkish Military Prison..but that is another story!

      Right now I’m in the army national guard right now I’m OGS but when my contract is up I want to go Air Force
      But I’m not sure whether to go reserves or guard can you tell me the difference? And a recommendation

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  4 роки тому +2

      Honestly I don't have much experience with Guard or reserve I have been active my entire career. I would say the biggest difference is who your boss is and where your money comes from. The guard is Fully State ran and reserves are DOD federal ran from my understanding.

      We get a yearly clothing allowance around $200. but it goes fast when 1 set of uniforms cost $180 boots not included. we are issued gear but its not the greatest at times But yes I buy my own gear. I am a professional at my job so i will buy the best gear available to me.
