Lovely to see the Leicester moments in there. Absolutely worth finding a video of their journey, it truly is one of the most incredible sporting stories ever.

14:42 Not exactly, You see Brazil are the most successful International team, so it's not just the 7-1 score line, its the fact they did it to the biggest and best of Football nations...in their own stadium. Thats why it was such a big deal
@@andrefiliks There's this joke that Löw told the team to take it easy in the second half during halftime, but Schürrle was just out taking care of his bladder...
The player who scored an incredible goal at 5:24 into your video, in black and white, was Pele. It was a world cup final and he was 17 at the time. No player has ever played such a decisive role at such a hight level at that age. He was still equally important when Brazil won its third world championship in 1970. Then there was Johan Cruijff, who changed the way the game is played, both as a player and as a coach. His influence lastst to this day.
@@danielwalls3341 You may not be aware that "GOAT" stands for "greatest of all time"? That includes the 70s. Messi may very well be the greatest football player who ever lived, within the system that his team played, but he has had no real influence on how the game is actually played, like Pele or Cruijff.
@@MartijnHover Messi also had way more opportunities to develop than former legends had. Starting professional training from a younger age, better training, better conditions, improvements in sports medicine, better tactical education, improvement in sports science and so on. Who knows how good Pelé, Maradonna, Puskás, Beckenbauer, Zidanne or Cruijff would have become if they had these modern conditions. Pretty sure some of them would've been better than Messi considering they did pretty much the same and even influenced the game more under worse conditions. It is also sad tha twe never talk about golies when we think about the best players, cause Neuer clearly revolutionized the way football is played nowadays and is the best goalkeeper in history
@@meganoob12 Actually that also came form the "total football" as largely developed in the era of Johan Cruijff, where goal keepers were supposed to not just stop shots at goal, but also to play along with the rest of the defense.
As a football fan, a video could never describe what these moments truly mean. Even though the video does a great job at showing the skill and beauty of these moments it couldn’t capture the true worth of these moments. Football for so many people is a thing of life and death, a replacement for their family and true love. Witnessing Such moments is likely to be the greatest moment in a fans life
i watched that 7-1 germany v brazil game live and it’s still the most surreal game i’ve ever watched real time everything surrounding that game in the football world at the time, the context of that world cup, the fact it happened IN BRAZIL i’m still shaken watching the highlights thinking back to when it happened. one of the most incredible games in any sport all time
The greatest ever usually boils down to 4 for most people: Pelé, Maradona, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Then the stage just below where there’s era defining players in their own right: Cruyff, Di stéfano, R9, Beckenbauer, Púskas, Garrincha, Zidane, Dinho etc. Edit: There are some that believe players like Zidane or Ronaldhino should be included in the GOAT category. They were awesome players, but lacked consistency and longevity respectively to be considered. They are the best of their generation but not the greatest. Being really talented at football is not enough.
Can't disagree with that list... though i don't support any teams they've played for. hey are the 4. I'd have Matt le-tissier and Rickie Lambert in mine.. but that's my personal list of joy that was given. ha ha
Football, or soccer as you call it, is the greatest sport on the planet!! To see a live game and be among the fans cheering your team is the greatest feeling ever!! You must try and get to see a live game anywhere in Europe and get that feeling is just unbelievable!!
Ibrahimovic has insane spatial awareness and aim - no matter where he is on the field, no matter whether he's upside down, with his back to the goal, he knows precisely how to get the ball in.
I think the thing about the clips of Tottenham's comeback against Ajax and Liverpool's comeback against Barcelona that was truly extraordinary is that both matches literally occurred with 24 hours of one another. Seeing one comeback like that was amazing but to have two in such a short time period - priceless.
Yeah it was a crazy week of football. And on top of that Spurs had the insane quarter final match in the previous round vs Man City where they won 4-4 on away goals after Sterling’s 93rd minute ‘winner’ was ruled out.
There is nothing better than watching an American getting this sport, and you get it, there is a reason this is by far the most loved sport on earth, and you sir get it, great reaction, very respectful, enjoy the journey, watch barcelona the glory days, it will blow your mind, you just got another subscriber.
One of the best bicycle kicks that I remember is Emre Can, Liverpool V Watford. The angle of the pass makes it difficult, the timing needs to be perfect. I've done quite a few bicycle kicks over the years so I know how difficult they are to get right and from which angle is more difficult. Zlatan's one against England looks the best because of the distance but there was no keeper, it was still a fantastic goal though
The one Ronaldinho scored for barcelona after controlling in the chest is also from an insane angle. I think it was against villareal. Its like an inverted bicycle
@@umarjillani5129 Barcas comeback was shoddy refereeing and Spurs didn’t win anything so it didn’t matter. Porto were brilliant but it didn’t have the magic of a comeback IMO.
@@dI9ESTIVES123 I get your point here but we are talking about one great night and who doesn't love a underdog story, barca had help from ref but still it was the biggest comeback, and that spurs game is just crazy, I haven't seen a big game finish like this in my life time
Separated in colours, but united in play. That is why we love football so much. The emotion of the fans, the players, no matter what nation, brings a smile to our faces when we see this video.
the best footballing memory i have was being at the liverpool vs barcelona in 2019 at anfield. watching trent take that quick corner and origi bang it in the back of the net was just beautiful
9:38 To answer your question quick: Yes there is. He is still breathing and playing currently for Inter Miami. Glad my team (that i cheer for, not play for) managed to beat him and his team in the WC Final 2014. Insane player. We all know who it is. The best who ever touched a ball.
In regards to the goat. It’s a very generational thing. Older generation of fans will most likely say one of Pele or Maradona. Younger generations will most likely say one of Messi or Ronaldo. I’ve always thought Messi because he makes the unexpected, the expected. Ronaldo does unexpected things don’t get me wrong, but to me he doesn’t make them the expected.
I was a kid at Pelés Swan song and already an adult, when Maradona was in his prime and as an oder adult I have now seen Messi and C. Ronaldo. The last two are up there, but both lack the ability of making everybody around them better, which both Pelé and Maradona had. And the most talented (Ronaldinho) certainly wasn't the best. Doing things no one else can do on a consistent basis: Messi. Doing things most people can do but better than all the rest: C. Ronaldo. Taking their team to another level: Pelé and Maradona. And Johan Cruyff.
@@alestev24 best description I´ve read. Another one I like is that if you´d ask an artist and an engineer to design the perfect footballer, the artist would design Messi and the engineer CR7
@@IshavedChewbacca you missed his point... the best footballers are Pelé, Maradonna and Crujff because by their mere presence the made their entire team better. They are not judged by their personal stats, but by the performance of their team as a whole and as football ist stil la team game this is way more important that what Messi and Ronaldo did. I'm quite frankly sick of the Messi and Ronaldo fanboys jerking off online whilst having no idea about football whatsoever. They only play Fifa and watch youtube compilations and think this is what football is about... Football is really on it's dying bed
What about George Best. He was the goat of the 60/70s for a lot of older people. Wish there was a better colour video of him playing instead of the old black and white
If i'd rank the top 5 I would go for Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, Maradonna, and N Ronaldo. Top 2 are still playing but in their 30s and past their best. The standard of football has been increasing every decade since 60s when Pele scored 1000 goals in Brazil. The video gives me chills and makes me tear up as it brings back the memories where I was, how shocked I was. You wait and then magic happens. A beautiful game and so unpredictable compared to other sports.
I discovered my love for Football about 2 years ago. It came from playing FIFA on my PS4. As I played I fell in love with the sport and the culture, and I learned that regardless of the state of towns, cities, countries, economies, etc, the rest of the world connects with football. They all come together for that love. It brings so many together and anyone can do it. Also, it's a beautiful sport. It makes sense, it's fun, non stop, and extremely skillful. I bought 2 balls and play and practice frequently. I always tell people, "Made in the USA means something until you're talking about football. That's one American made thing that the rest of the world does better."
I feel like this video doesn't live up to the title. For me, Leicester's story is a beautiful football story, of a 5000-1 underdog winning the big prize, against teams who had maybe 3 times their operational budget, but even that doesn't completely capture the game. What this video misses is the contributions from other areas of the pitch - Colin Hendry had a game in the season where Blackburn won the title when he must have made 20 blocks or tackles in the area and not a single foul if I recall correctly. There have been games from keepers where the other team kept knocking but couldn't find a way past (Boaz Myhill vs Tottenham). There are goals made by an amazing 70 yard pass, or ones like Jack Wilshere's goal vs Norwich where there are something like 5 one touch passes that set it up leaving the defence completely bamboozled. Football is more than just dribbling and shooting. I'm not sure a video is out there that really gets in to the parts of the pitch away from the goalscorers (which is maybe why a lot of younger fans feel to be incredibly simplistic and naive when it comes to debates about great players because they just aren't educated enough on the game as a whole) If you do want a video of more goals, a Matt Le Tissier highlight compilation is worth a look, he was the one good player on a weaker team which meant he should have been easy to stop. He had a season where he seemed to get goal of the month, every month.
Great reaction and there’s always been incredible football players, must mention one that haven’t turned up yet on greatest moments but will: Kylian Mbappe continues the line of unbelievable scorers, some of his goals are so beautiful!
I love seeing Americans absolutely mesmerised when they watch videos like this. They grow up knowing very little about football most of them think its a soft sport that's boring then they see things like this and are mind blown. I hope you start watching games and get to witness magic moments like these live.
there are a few names who can be considered contenders for greatest of all time. Pele, Maradona, Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, Cruijff, Di Stefano, Garrincha, Best, Eusebio. the first 4 are probably on everyone's list but if you name any of these you can argue for it, and probably many more.
I think there are three types of "Heros". International like Maradona, Pelé, Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappé,.. than you have National Heros, in Germany these are mostly people like players who were in the National Teams and won a woldcup, like "das Wunder von Bern" and every Club has it's own heros. I'm a fan of Fortuna Düsseldorf and for me they are Toni Turek, Paul Janes, the Allofs-brothers, and some players of the last years who are people who are figures of identification top the club like Jens Langeneke, Axel Bellinghausen, Oliver Fink and Lumpi Lambertz. They are not very famous in an international point of view, but they are legends for us and stayed in the Club after they finished their time as Players in the Bundesliga Team.
You sounded like you wanted to know how often acrobatic goals similar to Rooney's overhead kick actually happen. Well, in England's top division, the Premier League, with 10 matches per gameweek, I would say there might be one or two attempts per week, but an actual goal only once every couple of months, or longer. There are, of course, also many fine volleys, solo runs, and impressive team goals most weeks. All very entertaining. ;-)
im gonna be honest, i used to love bycicle kicks, but now, i think well done volley kicks(as in the ones the player completely leaves the ground) are far more impressive.
I'm a Messi fan but this is one of the corniest comments I've ever read 😂. No disrespect to you. But i think i got shorter from how hard i cringed lmfao
This « best player that ever lived » question is… complicated. It’s, for most people, between Messi and Ronaldo. In my opinion, Messi is the best (in terms of pure footballing quality) player that ever set foot on earth, but believe me, not everybody’s gonna agree
@@paaaaaac3844 nope The top 3 are Pelé, Maradonna and Crujff... these guys revolutionized the entire game and made their teams better by their mere presence on the pitch
The greatest ever is normally biased for players that score goals rather than defenders/goalkeepers/midfielders but is often one of 5: Pele, Maradona, Best, Ronaldo and Messi.
I think Best is mostly on that list for english people. I would put Eusebio or Cruijff in that top 5 instead. But football is, and always has been, subjective :)
@@cecilialeitet2794 perhaps, although he was Irish afaik so if anything it should be the opposite. If it was down to an English bias id expect it to be someone like Moore or Charlton. Personally i would take out Maradona for Beckenbauer, Cruyff or Di Stefano, as you said its subjective.
I’m a Newcastle fan but my favourite moment was the Liverpool comeback in the CL final I remember watching it in disbelief to comeback like that was I think the greatest ever comeback.
If you're looking for who the greatest footballers are, then I'd have too say the two who were named as "players of the century". Pele and Maradona. Pele was a downright god with a football and regardless of how I feel about Maradona as an Englishman, the whole "hand of God" thing, he was still a downright amazing player.
Both in the top 4, both not better than CR7 or Messi and don’t say can’t be better because they don’t have a World Cup. Messi is by far the most accoladed individual player of all time. He also could’ve played for Spain and just sat on the bench and won 2 euros and a World Cup. Never mind actually playing and scoring probably another 40+ career goals. That’s because the team was the best in the world, just like Brazil with pele.
@@LewisJamieson6 You can make that argument for Messi though and his numbers for Barca. Meanwhile, for Argentina he has never scored in a World Cup outside of the group stages.
I will say from my country the best off all time : " Gheorghe Hagi, and then he was followed by Mutu and Cristian Chivu" and we did have in the past one off the best national team in Romania ..but for us europeans football is something dead serious. We all heard off Pelle, Ronaldo, David B.and so much manny. ❤
I remember the european cup 2000. A great romanian Team. And they get second place in a Group, where noone expected them to get to the quarter final. We were very disapointed in germany xD
I stopped watching football a couple of years ago because it was too painful to watch after I got injured and couldn't play myself anymore. It's crazy watching this video, I remember watching so many of these goals live and thinking how they inspired my own game when I did play.
Messi makes the unfeasible look mundane and he has been doing it his entire career. Ronaldo, Maradona and Pele are/were all exceptional but just ask all the world-class defenders that Messi has left flat on their arses in his wake...
Messi is 1 and Ronaldo is 2 imo, gotta respect and appreciate both and their stats are unmatched. Two best ever, maradona , pele , cruyff, and many more all follow after.
Messi has only done it in a league where the majority of teams were screwed over by a bad TV deal. His World Cup record for example is pretty paltry having never scored in a World Cup knockout round game. To me, he is only as good as the midfield behind him and his numbers have been helped by playing with Xavi, Iniesta and co. That's not to say that he can't be a great player on his day, but he is usually not the player who gets his team out of trouble, just the one that helps them when they are already dominant
Any1 claiming Ronaldo( CR7) is on the same level of Messi skill-wise (or technically as you said it) should stop watching football and change sport cause such a statement shows you have no clue about the sport. Cristiano had a great career and he’s a great player but that is because of his longevity and mentality, sheer professionalism that allowed him to stay at the top for more than most athletes in sports history(all sports considered). This has nothing to do with his skills do, cause skill wise he’s very mediocre when compared to the best ever to play the game of football. Players like Messi, zidane, R9, Platini, Maradona, crujiff and I could go on and on are head and shoulders above him in terms of skills and talent, like it’s not even close.
I think most fans are generally agreed on this. I would say 5 players probably make the 'Greatest' cut; Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Maradona, Cruijff and Pele. Of course, there are also players like Puskas, Fontaine and Lev Yashin, not to mention Platini and Zico who are all worthy of a mention. Suddenly I am reminded of Zidane, Moore, Best, Eusebio and Beckenbauer. The list is so subjective and always needs to be contextualised. Great reaction btw. Kevin from England.
Can’t really say the best in football because it’s unfair on defenders and goalkeepers who will always be outshined but strikers/wingers but are sometimes more talented in their role.
You are absolutely right, there is no fair way to compare players who play different positions, the system is biased to attacking players, and does defenders, goal keepers and especially midfielders no justice what so ever, a goal at one end is just as important as a save or a tackle at the other and etc. But with that said, I don't think we will ever see a player like messi ever again and I think he's an exeption to this flawed comparison method.
09:43 Dont ask that question, lool, there is no MJ, some might say Messi, or Maradona , but there are so many different positions and ways of laying it that...NO there is no Goat. So Messi and Maradona were/are amazing, but they would suck in goal, or as a central defender (actually I could see Maradona hussling his way as a defender, but they tend to be tall and Maradona was very short, so is Messi) the reason I say "dont ask that question" is there are so many contenders, its not like Basket Ball were its MJ (or Le Bron if you are a crack head lool) or NFL where you can easily cite Tom Brady or whatever. I would say there are at least 10-20 players that have a "legit" GOAT claim, and then there is the recency bias, s for example, if you polled it Messi would probably come out as teh GOAT currently , but most of the people voting never saw Pele, Maradona, Zidane, prime Ronaldo (Brazillian NOT Cristiano Ronaldo) , Prime Ronaldinho, Euseibio, Garrincha, Cruyff, Puskas, Di Stefano, George Best etc etc etc so you wont get a fair measured answer For instance I am 40 and I saw maybe half the players I have listed in their prime, Pele, Garrincha, Cruyff, Euseibio, Puskas, Di Stefano, George Best had retired by the time I was born FTR I dont think Messi is the greatest I have seen, I think Maradona was, but even then I have to say its close and there are a few I would put in that conversation myself
Could you imagine Maradona as a modern fullback though? I largely agree with the GOAT question being pointless - there have been so many changes in recent years that help attacking players that it's just unfair to try and compare them, and I don't think the game has ever been as badly unbalanced financially as it has become in the Champion's League era leaving many clubs struggling to compete in their own leagues (which helps the stats of players at bigger clubs)
For me the best of all time is still Pele not because purely because of his over all ability but because he was the furthest ahead of his time. His prime was in the 60's get it's only now that footballers are performing his tricks and skills, if he played today he would still be one of if not the best. When you consider the improvements in fitness, diets and training today not to mention football's and football pitches that's just insane that he was so far ahead so long ago
For me the peak of football magic is at 90's untill early 2000's.. maybe there is no pele, maradona or even messi and ronaldo but almost every league and every clubs has monster players,an ace that can make a different result in a game they played. It's always thrilling to watch every match either Premier league, serie a,la liga or bundesliga
Great video, glad you enjoyed it and appreciated the beauty if the game, even without the context if some of the games shown. You knew of the Germany v Brazil shocker but some of the goals shown were winning goals in World Cup finals for example. As for best players check Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo (Brazilian and Portuguese), Messi, Zidane, Cryff, Rooney, and see where this leads you.
i agree with all the names on your list apart from rooney, he was nowhere near the class of the others on that list and for me seriously under achieved in his career, he could have been as good, but wasn't.
@@greygreen5610 I wanted to include an English player, and thought of Beckham or Rooney. Chose Rooney, no particular reason, but in his early career he was thought of a better than Ronaldo. Funny how things turn out. Rooney is retired, Ronaldo is still playing but a year older than Rooney.
@@andytidbury8334 i would have chosen george best, not english but british, probably on a par with the true greats, but was a drunk pissed his talent up the wall sadly
To see the beauty in some of those momens, imagine this: Super Bowl finals. A line backer receives a ball at his defense field and goes running as fast as he can, dodging every single tacke, to the touchdown line, with nobody to cover him up... Imagine doing this with the ball on your feet, instead of your hands... And imagine the tackles are not on your body, but on your feet, and they canliterally cripple you (some players ended up their careers on moments like these) That's some of the football magic...
Diego Armando Maradona. He wasn't just an insanely gifted player who scored some jaw-dropping goals, he embodied the very essence of football that is the sport of the people. Others may point to Pelé, but although nobody can deny his value and achievements, he was more of a bureaucrat following his retirement whereas Maradona remained "of the people" to his very end. I am pretty sure that when the big clubs of Europe tried to hijack the sport away last year solely for their own financial benefit, Maradona would had been there with the fans to stop it, if he were able-bodied still. By the way, if you want to see the greatest underdog-wins-Euro-championship story ever type Greece Euro 2004.
Ferenc Puskás was a Hungarian player 1927-2006 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players off all time he was also the sports first international superstar, he is my goat 🐐
I wouldnt say there is "A greatest of all time" There are multiple players that defined the Times they played in, is more what I would call it for example, Maradona, Pele, Ronaldinho, Christiano Ronaldo, Messi, Lewandowski even now we have players that might become "like" Christiano Ronaldo or Messi its just different times like for example Mbappe or Haaland(sadly man seems to injure himself all the time) or Vinicius Junior (which are still all very young and in the startlines)
So true… and something else, we tend to only focus on the attacking players. But you have strategy, you have a midfield, a defense and a goalie… Peter schmeichel was unbelievable as a keeper, van der sar, Yashin, Buffon, courteous, Casillas,… When Messi or Ronaldo misses 3 shots, no one bats an eye, when a keeper misses 3 saves…it’s 0-3. And so on for every position. It’s ridiculous imo to compare players, to many variables and personal bias.
Personally, I feel like the numbers players are putting up in the modern game does more to suggest structural issues in club finances - when one club is operating with a budget 10-15 times the size of an opponent, of course they are going to slaughter them and that is becoming increasingly prevalent in various leagues thanks to the CL prize money (which becomes a bit of a feedback loop in that regard)
Messi is the best ever. There is no discussion. If someone tries to convince you otherwise, think of this post. Pele was great but in a time that defenders still smoked a pack a day. Maradona was great, Cruijff was transformative for the sport. But Messi is the GOAT.
The last line is by the famous french caster Thierry Rolland, it says "I think after watching this, we can die peacefully, the more late possible, but we can".
"The Best"? You can't really say, there are of course legends, but to pick one would be so difficult. Different times/styles/rules/ball/pitches means that overall you couldn't pick. For examle, Dixie Dean, played for Everton in England, who in the 1927-28 season scored 60 league goals. He was a prolific goal scorer during his whole career, but how do you compare him to Messi? Hay, I'm just glad you found the game. As a working class Englishman I feel its roots deep in my bones.
It’s probably best to pick a position to argue for best player ever as the likes of Pele will obviously be the forefront of peoples minds but they are the glory players as goal scorers, there are arguably god tier players that are defenders or goalkeepers or wingers such as Buffon, Schmeichel, Maldini, Moore, Beckenbauer, Pirlo, Platini and dozens more in all positions. Right now Messi vs Ronaldo is always the debate. Glad you enjoyed it!
there's no such thing as 'best player ever' because every position plays very differently and realistically can't be compared together, if there was ever to be a nomination for 'best player ever' then my potential candidate would be lev yashin, he remains to this day the only player in his role (goalkeeper) to win the Ballon'Dor award, and while there are plenty of attackers who have dominated the sport for decades, and could be argued have an easier chance to win this usually prestigious award, he remains the only one, personally i think Maradonna is overrated, he was a generational talent for sure, no doubt there but i don't think he was quite as good as people make him out to be, i also think that Pele and what he achieved in his career while spectacular for the time, and still a great feat even today there's been plenty of players who have arguably been as good or better during their respective careers and yet even now 65+ years later his legacy overshadows many great players that have come since. For a lot of people it also depends on who you ask, older people will likely name some of the 'legacy' players as the best, if you ask a kid who grew up in the last 15-20 years it's based on whoever was the best on fifa, for some it could be someone completely different so it just depends heavily on who you ask and what what era they are from.
yeah, but FIFA kiddie really don't understand football and don't love the game at all. They are just folling the hype and have no idea of a players real qualities.
Those “main ones” are only “main ones” to Americans. Almost nobody in Europe watches or plays baseball or American Football. American Football literally is “American” Football. Only Americans play or watch except for a tiny tiny minority that may have lived in the US in the past.
A player most people don't mention because it happen so long ago, however he is considered one of the greatest ever. His name is Giuseppe Meazza. He won 2 World Cups for Italy in 1934,1938 His nickname was the genius, a master of technical skills, a prolific goalscorer with 537 goals, and amazing creative ability on the pitch. The guy played in the 30's & 40's & has got a stadium named after him called Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Inter Milan's home soil.. So he's definitely one of the greatest ever.
the sad thing is, he played before the ww2, and he was followed by the one many consider the true goat, Pele. who won not 2, but 3 WCs.(by the way im not bashing meazza, dude was a monster, and far ahead of his time, im just saying how unfair it is he was "forgotten" due to that circunstance).
@@brian060983 Im from Brasil, and i will defend Pele as the GOAT no matter what(its actually a contract every br has to sign in order to stay alive here). but that doesnt change the fact that there have been others who may not be as amazing, but are no less deserving of respect and admiration.

It’s mostly between Messi and Ronaldo, but after Messi won the WC it’s not a debate no more, he is the best there has ever been and the only people that deny that are people that believe in conspiracies
2:55 that bicycle kick goal still gets me emotional. It was Rooney for Manchester United in the local derby against Manchester City, truly special to do that in such a high pressure match.
There's several players that are considered in the debate for the GOAT of football : Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pelé, Maradona and Ronaldo Nazario are the main candidates
Leonel Messi just solidified himself as the best player of all time during this past world cup. This is pretty much mutually agreed upon in the soccer (football) world at this point. BTW this is coming from a lifetime Cristiano Ronaldo fan (CR7, Suiiiiiii), I gotta give it up to Messi.
How so? I think he's put himself above Ronaldo, but Pelé won 3 of those things. I'm not sure we can definitively say Messi's the best of all time, though certainly of our current era.
@@kjn3350 soccer back then was way different than today’s day and age. they use this alot in basketball as the newer ballers think the old players wouldnt keep up to the new style/requirements. pele’s first world cup wasn’t really a WORLD cup, there probably were more teams that qualified this time than countries that even attempted to play in it. and come on bro u disrespecting the uefa league, i would take today’s uefa championship over the world cup 30 years ago+
To someone unfamiliar with world football these videos do little towards understanding why the moments shown are so iconic. There’s no context. It’s just a highlights reel that could be from basically any league. For example the story of LIV-BAR in the Champions League semi-finals, show that story.
9:33 to me (despite being portuguese) is Ronaldo from Brazil. Luís Nazário de Lima - R9. His career was short (by today's standards) at a very high level, because of all his knee injuries. But while he played at the best of his form, he was so far ahed of everyone else, it almost like seeing an adult playing against kids.
Not enough Johan Cruijff in this. His penalty against Haarlem (later repeated sort of by Messi), his ghost goal against Madrid, his goal against Den Haag were he has two touches from the middle of the pitch. one to receive the ball and at the same time beat the defence and pass it to himself all in one brilliant touch, the next a wonderful curved shot to beat the goalie from 25 yards out)
The guy at the end is Thierry Rolland and was the French commentator in the 1998 final and said live "after that you can die quietly, the latest the better but you can. What a blast!!! What a blast!!!! ohh F...!!! Ohh F...!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
Just to put it in perspective: 3,5 billion people followed the last world cup. 1,1 billion people watched the finale live, even though it was "only" two european teams.

Oh well rodrygo scored 2 goals in one min to send real madrid to ucl final this year 😂
No. Messi is the Goat. Sorry, but we are not in 1970's anymore.

Are you comparing American Football to World Futbol in the last part of what you’re saying or are you implying futbol was made in America?
Made in America? Lmao
I'm not sure a video is out there that really gets in to the parts of the pitch away from the goalscorers (which is maybe why a lot of younger fans feel to be incredibly simplistic and naive when it comes to debates about great players because they just aren't educated enough on the game as a whole)
If you do want a video of more goals, a Matt Le Tissier highlight compilation is worth a look, he was the one good player on a weaker team which meant he should have been easy to stop. He had a season where he seemed to get goal of the month, every month.
Every time i see some of these compilations with this legendary comentary i get goosepumps

Messi makes the unfeasible look mundane and he has been doing it his entire career. Ronaldo, Maradona and Pele are/were all exceptional but just ask all the world-class defenders that Messi has left flat on their arses in his wake...
Ronaldos clear of pele and maradona.
Messi and Ronaldo are on the same level technically as those 2 have been dominating but yeah messis better
Messi is 1 and Ronaldo is 2 imo, gotta respect and appreciate both and their stats are unmatched. Two best ever, maradona , pele , cruyff, and many more all follow after.
lmfao great season in psg by the way he is a one club player that's why he'll never pass maradona ask in argentina who god is
Messi has only done it in a league where the majority of teams were screwed over by a bad TV deal.
I watched it twice, football is so beatifull it can make you cry.
09:43 Dont ask that question, lool, there is no MJ, some might say Messi, or Maradona , but there are so many different positions and ways of laying it that...NO there is no Goat. So Messi and Maradona were/are amazing, but they would suck in goal, or as a central defender (actually I could see Maradona hussling his way as a defender, but they tend to be tall and Maradona was very short, so is Messi)
the reason I say "dont ask that question" is there are so many contenders, its not like Basket Ball were its MJ (or Le Bron if you are a crack head lool) or NFL where you can easily cite Tom Brady or whatever. I would say there are at least 10-20 players that have a "legit" GOAT claim, and then there is the recency bias, s for example, if you polled it Messi would probably come out as teh GOAT currently , but most of the people voting never saw Pele, Maradona, Zidane, prime Ronaldo (Brazillian NOT Cristiano Ronaldo) , Prime Ronaldinho, Euseibio, Garrincha, Cruyff, Puskas, Di Stefano, George Best etc etc etc so you wont get a fair measured answer
For instance I am 40 and I saw maybe half the players I have listed in their prime, Pele, Garrincha, Cruyff, Euseibio, Puskas, Di Stefano, George Best had retired by the time I was born
FTR I dont think Messi is the greatest I have seen, I think Maradona was, but even then I have to say its close and there are a few I would put in that conversation myself
Maradona did it whilst being booted about
i had goosebumps throughout the whole video.

5:39 Roberto Carlos free kick is possibly the best free kick ever performed.

To see the beauty in some of those momens, imagine this:
Super Bowl finals. A line backer receives a ball at his defense field and goes running as fast as he can, dodging every single tacke, to the touchdown line, with nobody to cover him up...
Imagine doing this with the ball on your feet, instead of your hands... And imagine the tackles are not on your body, but on your feet, and they canliterally cripple you (some players ended up their careers on moments like these)
That's some of the football magic...
By the way, if you want to see the greatest underdog-wins-Euro-championship story ever type Greece Euro 2004.
a drug cheat to boot
But you have strategy, you have a midfield, a defense and a goalie…
Peter schmeichel was unbelievable as a keeper, van der sar, Yashin, Buffon, courteous, Casillas,…
When Messi or Ronaldo misses 3 shots, no one bats an eye, when a keeper misses 3 saves…it’s 0-3.
And so on for every position.
It’s ridiculous imo to compare players, to many variables and personal bias.
No bro messi is by far the best ever he’s an alien no one compares
Personally, I feel like the numbers players are putting up in the modern game does more to suggest structural issues in club finances - when one club is operating with a budget 10-15 times the size of an opponent, of course they are going to slaughter them and that is becoming increasingly prevalent in various leagues thanks to the CL prize money (which becomes a bit of a feedback loop in that regard)
@@millitaryofficial913 Ferenc Puskás compares 🤦♂️

I have found your channel right now and i think you are an amazing UA-camr Thanks for this nice video and content :D
Messi is the best ever. There is no discussion. If someone tries to convince you otherwise, think of this post.
Pele was great but in a time that defenders still smoked a pack a day. Maradona was great, Cruijff was transformative for the sport.
But Messi is the GOAT.
Defenders could kick Pele in the air almost all game long and stay on the pitch. Two of the best players I've ever seen smoked a pack a day.
@@peteryarnold9707 Neeskens and Cruijff :D.
If Messi was the goat, he would have at least one world cup.
Messi has scored less goals in World Cup knock out games than Harry Maguire...
After Ronaldo.
No one is as good as them. They are the legends.
@@marcosdheleno Very true. Great comment! It's such a shame & i'm not even Italian myself, but the guy deserve to be mention as well.
@@brian060983 Im from Brasil, and i will defend Pele as the GOAT no matter what(its actually a contract every br has to sign in order to stay alive here).
but that doesnt change the fact that there have been others who may not be as amazing, but are no less deserving of respect and admiration.

I remember watching that chelsea game in 2012 while i was really into fotball damn i enjoyed it so much even tho i was just a 10 years old kid and barely was allowed to stay that late to watch the game till its end.
Yeah man ! Messi is 100% the greatest to ever live with Maradona right behind him. After that I guess it just comes down to personal preference but Messi is hands down the greatest to bless a football pitch.

I mean it's not like Messi has the same goal scoring record as Pele already with about 5 more years to go in his career & about 100more assists than anyone ever in the history of the game. Or the fact he has the dribbling ability on par with that of a prime Maradona who was also better than Pele. Nah can't be any of those reasons at all. Seek help ,you're misguided my friend

It's a very pure sport, football. All you need is a ball, and a space to kick it. Someone will come along to play...
Brazil has so many great moments and they only remember the 2 losses on WC for France and Germany. What a joke.

Now that's worth a watch
9:33 to me (despite being portuguese) is Ronaldo from Brazil. Luís Nazário de Lima - R9. His career was short (by today's standards) at a very high level, because of all his knee injuries. But while he played at the best of his form, he was so far ahed of everyone else, it almost like seeing an adult playing against kids.
Not enough Johan Cruijff in this. His penalty against Haarlem (later repeated sort of by Messi), his ghost goal against Madrid, his goal against Den Haag were he has two touches from the middle of the pitch. one to receive the ball and at the same time beat the defence and pass it to himself all in one brilliant touch, the next a wonderful curved shot to beat the goalie from 25 yards out)
Videos like this tend to focus on strikers, but there have been many great defenders, and goalies, as well
The guy at the end is Thierry Rolland and was the French commentator in the 1998 final and said live "after that you can die quietly, the latest the better but you can. What a blast!!! What a blast!!!! ohh F...!!! Ohh F...!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
Just to put it in perspective: 3,5 billion people followed the last world cup. 1,1 billion people watched the finale live, even though it was "only" two european teams.
