I haven't a desire for any religion, but this is a very spiritual piece that can speak to anyone without a guilt of religion. I find that these men sing to a level of communication that reaches to the spirit without dogma, and pure joy of the spirit that is each of us. I wish to be enveloped by this sound and touch forever. With this, my spirit transcends all religions to a whole new level of clarity and spirituality.
I had the opportunity to be a part of a men's choir from Ricks College (now BYUI) in 1980 that sung in the Tabernacle. What a wonderful experience that was. Hearing this beautiful hymn sung by these men takes me back to that time. Thanks for posting it.
Beautiful hymn. I am singing it in church before our Setember 11 service this Sunday. Sang it at the Anzac Day service this year with a brass band and the community choir. Has become a favourite.
To all you folk who would like to think otherwise, Lead Kindly Light was written by Newman in 1833, when he was an Anglican vicar and before he crossed the tracks, as it were. He was a priest of the Holy Catholic Church (Anglican Rite) at that time.
kapariz44 There was no Anglican rite until the 21st century under Pope Benedict XVI. He may have been an Anglican but that is not the same as ‘crossing the tracks’ to the Roman Catholic Church. the Church of England (Anglican) is not a rite.
Actually, the poet, John Henry Cardinal Newman was an Anglican first who later converted to Roman Catholicism and who will be soon canonized a Saint. Pope Benedict XVI declared him blessed, ( the step before Sainthood in the RC church) just last week in England.

latrinenazi: No, actually, they can't advertise for a different racial mix. This particular choir is composed of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from the Brigham City area. They are not paid. It is not their profession. They are singing as volunteers and they all come from a particular geographical area. Choirs are asked to sing for different events and may include young women's groups, young men's groups, families, all men, all women or completely mixed choruses. They send the word out among the assigned units for volunteers. No one is required to participate. Generally speaking, for an event such as General Conference, they choose units from the immediate region so as to reduce the burden of travel. As I said, it is all done on a volunteer basis. Hope this helps!
I know there's a version with a fourth verse but is there another version of these lyrics where just certain lines are changed? Or an alternate version some choirs may use?
So powerful

you are constitively a religious person even if you do not practice a particular religion

This is my favorite hymn.
That song is respectable
Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy sent me here.
It's a really interesting organ registration, with the deep 32' feet stops in the pedal. A miracle. Thank you.
thats the motto of our high school
@Ynysmydwr good job.
This is Lux Benigna, composer John B. Dykes, with lyrics by John Henry Newman.

You are right, and I would like to add, that his canonisation was officially approved on February 12th 2019
Who can dislike this?!
I love this piece, and play an arrangement of it for a prelude at least once a year. The volume IS very low on this recording.
There is a great version of this song on
"Awake my Soul" by the BYU Mens Chorus
directed by the great Mack Wilberg.
My favorite album

@ddoody He wrote this hymn during his stay in Rome. He was in that time very sick.
Nice, but can you bump up the volume a bit?
@Ynysmydwr Lux Benigna was composed for this song. It literally means "kindly light".
I don't understand a word.😕
Lead Kindly Light is the song..meditate on Christ and you will find peace.
♥️
