    I never would have thought to start out with a knit fabric project, I can see the logic. Many moons ago when sewing was offered in school we started with a placemat, then apron and finally a gathered skirt. I still remember the challenge of those gathers.

    Taking a class was very helpful for me. I took an intro to garment sewing class at the sew shop in my neighborhood. It really set me up for successful creations.

    WOW! Just when I thought I knew how to actually sew a garment that I will wear again, I find this video. You make it seem so simple and I wish I'd been taught this way back in Home-Ec class, some 56 years ago. I made an outfit in that class out of corduroy and I never wore it again, plus I made most of my clothes out of the 'original 70's double knits' after I graduated that class. Now the knits are so much better although I haven't' had the nerve to buy any yet because of my bad experiences back then. I think you've convinced me to sign up for some classes and I will definitely be watching your videos. Even though I've been sewing for ail these years, I think I'll start with your beginner sewing to enjoy your teaching the better way, from the ground up. Who knows: I might just wear the clothes I make this time around. Thank you for making me aware of the much better way to sew and that I can finally make up some of those pretty knit fabrics in my future. 💮💮

    I didn't feel comfortable sewing with knits so I stayed away from teaching clothes to 4-H kids. Now I am learning to use knit fabric for me.

    So much great advice for a new-to-garment sewing sewist. I've heard some instructors say to stay away from knits as a beginner. I've never understood that, and have always thought that knits are great beginner projects for the reasons that you mentioned. Thank you for sharing!

    • @TheCraftyGemini
      @TheCraftyGemini  Рік тому +2

      Same! I never understood that either but that seems to be the standard school of thought at least in years past. Kids don't sew especially straight but when they sew knits they always leave my classes with wearable garments. That says a lot!

    I've always avoided working with stretch materials,but you make it seem possible. I picked up the Elle and Jeanne patterns to give it a try. You are so motivating and encouraging. I appreciate how your projects build confidence. Thank you!

    Hi Vanessa,
    From one Gemini to another, I’m more of a hands on when it comes to learning. I know you sew with Juki, but I love my Baby Lock Unity. I’m in Tampa, I know your here in Florida as well. I would like to take a few in person classes. Would that be possible? Please let me know.

    Hey Vanessa, I just started watching you and I have a question. Is there anyway that you can show me how to make a reversible laundry bag that's big enough for a week's worth of laundry I know how to put it together I believe I just can't get the dimensions right as to how long I need it and how wide

    Is it better to have a serger?

    • @TheCraftyGemini
      @TheCraftyGemini  Рік тому

      If you make a lot of clothes yes but it’s not necessary. I have multiple sergers and still sometimes prefer to make some items on a sewing machine only for a cleaner finish. I’ll share more on that soon. 👍🏽

    So I’ve been following you for years but I really want to sew & haven’t done so. My question is “Is an apron pattern easy enough for beginners?”

    • @TheCraftyGemini
      @TheCraftyGemini  Рік тому

      It really depends on the apron patterns. Some are very well suited for beginners but I e also made many that feature a lot more complicated techniques that would be as well suited for beginners.

      Depends on the device you’re watching on. Look for a down arrow or “see more” or 3 dots that will open up a menu.

    This is so embarrassing, but I will ask my question anyway. When measuring your bust for a pattern, do you measure with bra own or bra off?

    • @TheCraftyGemini
      @TheCraftyGemini  Рік тому

      With bra on. If you have different style bras I suggest measuring with the specific type of bra you plan to wear with the top or dress you are making.
