Great video thank you! I love Mikes work (Sorry Matthew, not researched yours yet!), Mike has always been aspiring for me. Im in Melbourne Australia, started out in Real Estate shoots, and gradually built my own business (mostly self taught, including retouching) alongside the RE work as just a contractor. One of my most repeat clients is a Cabinetry business. I love the trust they have of my work. They just pass me addresses and leave me to it! I have not yet worked for an Architect, but use to to think I 'had to', to be class myself as an 'Architectural photographer'!! So its great to hear Mike confirm its not a requirement. Thanks again for the great video! :)

Interior design photography is fun, but interior designers have no respect for use. They want to tag every company ever on every instagram post, and blow your work out to everyone.

Very informative. This makes a lot of sense. I worked in marketing research for 15 years and with this I worked with architects to custom design offices for focus groups. There are many other contractors involved who need to showcase their products-lighting, construction, interior design, etc.

I think this is true. As an architect myself working for top firms for many years. Architects don’t bring in the big bucks and can be difficult 😣. There is nothing stoping you from working with developers, interior designs, builders, high end retail - anything. Great video

Agreed. My biggest client is a siding manufacturer. They fly me all over the US and the destination is always a beautiful home.

I love shooting vacation rentals! Same hourly rates... way less drama than many other client types. :-)

Interesting discussion. I am still growing my interior and architecture business. But I noticed Hotels or event locations are good clients to have. And I also have some clients that always come back. Pay the bill right away. Thats really great.

Hahaha no photographer will ever be able to express with his photos what i have received in my genius from divine inspiration and transformed into reality... i have given up looking out for architects. Sometimes they are either arrogant or too stingy...without wanting to lump them together :) thx for this conversation, i have found myself right at home. Greetings from Germany, where the architects seem to be cut from the same cloth :D
edit: Since architects are also artists, they are often photographers themselves, or at least they think they are 😅

It would be a duel combination of creation with an architect and a photographer. You as a photographer may not understand the revisions of a finished product the architect put his sweat and sleepless nights for a small tweak that changed the whole outcome. Come in blind and use your 'feeling'.

I have recently gained a remodeler as a client. Having done R E and builders in the past, your insights to accessing related support industries with licensing has been eye opening. It has been a shift for me in my approach to both lighting, composition, and lens use, not to mention slowing down! Not to mention editing is altogether unique! Thanks!

an odd argument.... I don't know anyone in this industry (UK) that believes architectural photography only relates to architects.

Usually all those potential clients just buy the images you have already done for the architects.. it is an extension of the usage rights.. they use things already done, difficult they hire a photographer themselves . I think.
