This happened to me while on a ride in the Upper Penninsula....jumped the wires for 300 miles till we got done with our trip and then ordered a new thermostat. Always carry a little extra wire on long trips!
Hello, I have a question. I bought a Polaris 2006 classic 500cc. The person who i bought the ATV from He put a big bore kit on it. When I got home and we rode it for an hour, turned on the light on which was hot. I checked the fan and it was tied up and I put a new one on it I star the atv after 15 minutes the light came on again I removed the thermostat which it didn't have either I put a new one on it I also checked the pump and the nozzle was new and I changed the sensor temperature I put antifreeze 50/50 I raised the motorcycle from the front tires with cat ramps and turned it on for 40 minutes and the light came back again. What else can I do? What do you think?
I have a 2003 sportsman 500 having the same issue, I traded the sensor out with another 500's and it did not work either so I installed it into the 2nd 500 and it seemed to work just fine . the fan does come on when i place a jumper in the sensor harness. Is there anything else it could be ? thanks, Hubert
thanks for the tip I live in FLA. and it get hot my thermostat went out and I put a toggle switch on it I'm going to hook up your way where I want forget to turn it on. Thanks
Nice! I hot wire all my fans that have questionable temp sensors. I posted a video on rebuilding a 500 for that reason. The guy had a switch for the fan. His kid took it for a ride and forgot to turn fan on. I had to install a new head gasket and camshaft.
Hi, I jumped the fan and it's seems erratic. Comes on for a few seconds then shuts off. Shouldn't it continue to run while jumpered out! Wondering if I have an electrical issue where it's not getting good contact all the time.
Sorry, should have been a question ❓ for that. Was typing in the sun. Mine is a 2001 500 btw. Looking at partszilla, how do I know which Sportsman 500HO I have? Seems to be many to choose from.
thanks Might you know the value of the sensor in ohms .I have power to sensor but not through sensor ,maybe Ill just get a new sensor and see.I throw to many parts at my problems because weak diagnostic skills
I have a 2012 Polaris 500ho I’m having same problem I took off my hose to see if my pump turns wene started it does so I’m looking to see if my fan turns over
Just picked up a 1996 polaris sportsman 400 2 stroke, it ran when parked, sat for 5 years, before I start it, I'm gonna change all fluids, and service it, but... I'm limited on funds, how would I see if my oil injection is working?
If it's been sitting that long I would premix the gas at startup. Then see if oil is coming out of hose going up to carb. Also pull the cover off the oiler and make sure everything turns inside and not rusted tight. Check how well it functions.
So I did all of this, replaced h The sensor and turned it back on, waited for it to heat up and the fan never kicked on. Still says HOT, check engine. With a new sensor. Any new advice?
So the fan works, the sensor is new. How is the coolant level. Ether you have a bad new sensor or you have an air pocket in your cooling system. Is the coolant circulating? Could be a plugged radiator too.
I’m having this same issue but I have not temp sensor in the radiator on mine I don’t even have wire to show where it is suppose to have one.. 2004 Polaris sportsman 700 efi
My model don’t have one and when I unplugged the one in the block fans don’t come on.. I think I found issue though .I think it’s the voltage regulator I will keep you posted when it comes in
Hi Titanium man, why do you not sell good second hand parts at reasonable prices, to help the Polaris ATV community? I need 2002/3 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO radiator fans, 2 righ hand footwells, and other things, I am sure that you would do well out of it, but do not get into the same habit as eBay sellers please.

More of a thermal switch than a thermostat. Im sure you know the difference. Good vid n thank you for sharing bud.
Nice video, thank you!!
Could you do a video on a player's sportsman? 500 cam shaft the Spring for the decompression. The cam location where the springs supposed to be

the fan itself bad

Yup. That's sign its starting to go. I would check your wires though.

It's most likely the sensor. I don't know the value. Sensors are cheap. I think I paid 13 bucks.
I have a 2012 Polaris 500ho I’m having same problem I took off my hose to see if my pump turns wene started it does so I’m looking to see if my fan turns over
Good luck. Check your radiator too. It needs to be cleaned between the fins and flushed too.
My 2004 doesn't have that plug can I put 12 volts direct to the fan
Is it a 500 or 6 or 700. Some didn't have the temp sensor on the rad. You'll have to see where wires go. But you can still hot wire it to test fan.
@@TitaniummanGarage 500. Can I put a 12 volts to it

@@TitaniummanGarage is there such thing as a Polaris 700 sportsman 2x4? Never heard of one they’re always 4x4
Why not let the fan run continuously , when the engine is running ?
I have done that on some of them. But it burns out the fan faster.
I’m having this same issue but I have not temp sensor in the radiator on mine I don’t even have wire to show where it is suppose to have one.. 2004 Polaris sportsman 700 efi
It's on the side of the jug. Try disconnecting the wire. See if fan runs. If not run a jumper from the 2 wires that you unplugged
My model don’t have one and when I unplugged the one in the block fans don’t come on.. I think I found issue though .I think it’s the voltage regulator I will keep you posted when it comes in
What size wire is the circuit that you plug in
My 04 sportsman ATP 500 ho doesn't have a temp sensor in the rad, it has the two wire sensor in the head just above the oil filter
Ok. I'd a late model 04. That might be why. The earlier 04s had them. You will have do the bypass depending on what wire harness you install.
What did you use to make the jumper wire?
I just got a couple electronic terminals from auto parts store that fit in the plug. Crimped them on both ends.
Nicely done
Does the engine have to be warm or hot for this to work
No. Your bypassing the thermostat. The fan should kick in as soon as you hit the key.
Yeah I did exactly what you did and mine didn’t turn on so it must be bad but I’ve got one coming in the mail tomorrow so I’m good
can you share PN for the part?
What year? If you look up partzilla.com it will tell you.
thanks
My fan only work when I unplugged the fan and when plug back stop working
Once the temp. Reaches 180 the fan should kick in.
Titaniumman Garage I had it on for a hour and nothing
It must be the temp. Sensor on the radiator is bad.
how long before the fan should kick on
Temp has to reach 180 or so degrees

Because I need all that stuff too. I have to buy it from someone parting atvs out.

You keep calling the Temp sensor a thermostat.
Yes, I ment to say temp sensor. Had thermostat on the brain for some reason.
Actually it’s thermostat is one of the terms mechanics use so you ain’t wrong for saying it
I cant subscribe, the video is too shakey
