I see you guys saying nolan flexen should be on here but honestly, hes amazing offensively but his serve recieve is far too inconsistent compared to the other individuals on here. Especially in the semi final against long beach last season, his team gave up many points due to his serve receive and hitting out. To be a great outside, your defense has to be just as efficient as your offense.
Pretty new to watching volleyball and just wanted to know, what is it about players like chaplin and siapanis that allows them to start over taller players at this level? I've seen a video of yours about things shorter hitters can do to play well but how can you translate that to a level where you can start over taller players?
as outside passing can affect the game as much as hitting. if you're taller, reach higher, hit harder on oppo or middle, chances are you'll start. If you're an OH whos slightly smaller but is more consistent on passing and defense, theres the argument to be made you should start, as long as you arent useless vs 2 blocks
Serve receive is the biggest thing most smaller outsides at this level take more court which makes it easier for the other outside to focus on offense. Offensively they usually run very quick sets and work through around and off the block
Both of those guys are tough to include in this discussion as glass cannons. The outside position is as much passing and defense as it is hitting. As we last saw them those guys don’t have that all around game in the way players like Henno, Chakas, Champlin, etc. do.
Three options, 1. ESPN+ 2. MooMooCowJonny on UA-cam 3. Conference Carolina Teams - School's Website. This will get you most of the coverage for D1 Men's Volleyball this season.
@ thank you for the information. I love your videos by the way, especially for setting. You’re one of the few channels. I recommend to all my friends that wanna get better at volleyball.
You should make about underrated players coming into the season as well as the best freshmen

good ball control offensively and insane serve receive
@jasonrollins9863 good ball control as in hitting efficiency and hitting with accurately (avoiding or tooling the block)?
@@mofeosanyintolu2443 high hands on a double/triple block, high shots on a meh set, kills on every solo

Nolan flexen and maybe even sterling foley/DK will surprise people too
Varga is a better outside than siapanis imo
You should do best incoming freshman for the big west
Add nolan flexon and louis sakonoko to this list, if they hone in their craft these guys are big hitters and big set winners this year
