I love that this family speaks multiple languages❤ I hear one language one parent works great which is what your doing in German. That’s great just have her watch German cartoons an hour a day and have play dates with German kids weekly. Fanta will be speaking German by 15 months.
I would say another method you can try to learn the other languages is the One language and an Activity method. Like attending an African church that speaks Pulaar, calling your family daily so Fanta can speak to your dad, and a weekly online play class with colorful Pulaar workbooks Or at this stage Pulaar nursery rhymes for nap times(Pulaar to English Kids Dictionary). As for the English language an English Korean Nursery School should work great when she is 3 years old. Hope these tips help!!!🥰😍❤️

I did spend the first 16 years of my life in Cameroon so there was no way I could opt out of French! I'm fortunate though to have lived in both of my parents' countries for over 15 years each. This was excellent - spot on! I’m an ESL Professor at a U.S. college. I explain to my students that they shouldn’t abandon their first language as they raise their children because they can parent at their best in a language that intimately reflects their lives. They are surprised to hear that, particularly from someone teaching them English. Children ‘might’ have a delay, but when the talking starts, they’ve already sorted out the distinctions. Brains are pre-wired for this; it’s what they do best. Simply a wonderfully informed video.👏🏽👏🏽

I am Senegalese too and as you said there are many ethnicities but most of my family ( from my dad’s side ) speak only French/wolof even tho they are Pulaar luckily my dad knows how to speak pulaar and my mom’s family too so they spoke to me in pulaar, French and understood wolof by myself ( obviously cuz we live in Dakar). So nice to see a loving multicultural family! It's so interesting to me that you chose to speak only one language to Fanta and focus just on German. I think it does make sense, but I'm mixed myself and my parents each spoke to me & my brothers in two languages.
My mother would speak to us in Icelandic and English
My father would speak to us in Arabic derja (dialect) and French
My parents would alternate speaking days so like Monday my mum only spoke to us in Icelandic and my dad was only speaking in French. Tuesday she would only speak in English and he would only speak in Derja. Also we had to answer back in the language they spoke in.
When we were babies they would use both languages and repeat each sentence in both languages. As you know, being multi-lingual is a big blessing so I'm glad to see you passing on another language to sweet little Fanta.
My partner is Japanese and we are also trying to figure out how many languages to pass on to our future children so watching videos like this is super interesting to me.
Sorry for the long comment 💜

We spoke two languages, French and Spanish, in addition to English with our son as a child. We wanted to attune his ears to languages - very unusual for Americans! Coming from an Afro Caribbean American background and having lived abroad we understood the benefits of being multi lingual. It worked!

I definitely agree with what they said. Especially the part about parents being afraid that their child won’t learn the language of the place where they live, Of course they will! They will go to school, they’ll have friends, and it’ll be very easy for them to learn. And about speaking your own language with the child, it’s so much easier for you to express your emotions and to teach them about feelings and behaviors when you’re speaking in a language that you truly know. Loved the video! Great to hear from your parents! You have an amazing and unique family!

I just love seeing folks able to communicate in more than 1 Language!

So wonderful to see oori Fanta growing so nicely and being loved on by her grandparents. Aisha, you are a perfect blend of your mom and dad. I also notice a resemblance in Fanta with your dad. (It made me so happy to see them interact with her. I hope you get to visit back and forth often). I so loved their advice on language learning. Alas my hubby didn't speak in any of his 3 languages consistently to our kids, hajiman, we have some words and short phrases that we use with the kids from French and Farsi that they understand and are now part of our family lexicon. My kids are in Mandarin immersion but they don't get to speak it a lot but I feel is will help them in the future. Hopefully they will carry on and become at least bilingual. They understand my Jamaican patois and we add in Spanish and some of the Korean I am learning. Safe travels.

Unfortunately my parents was one of those parents who were scared that i wouldnt learn English if they spoke in their native language, even though we were living in an English speaking country. So they never taught me their native language and now because of this i only know English and cant understand any conversations they have with relatives, cousins etc. Dont want to blame them, but it literally is their fault.

Fanta is a very fortunate little nugget. She is growing up surrounded by diversity. Every child should be exposed to this kind of environment. It would be much, much less hate in this world.

Hi Aisha I have enjoyed your trip home to Italy so much. Being multi lingual is a huge advantage in this world were we are all interacting with each other so much more via the internet, traveling etc. Fanta will be ahead of most adults she encounters because of her knowledge of languages. It's just Awesome and now I'm inspired to learn more languages myself thanks for sharing your family and experiences with us keep Shining Queen 😊

This was a great vlog. I did not know the history of German settlers in Italy. Fanta is surrounded by polyglots which is awesome. Pulaar sounds interesting. I’m currently practicing some Zulu and Korean (very interesting languages). Heck yeah, teach Fanta those languages.😊
