It is such a pleasure to see another smith who studies and takes on projects from the age of Viking/Saxon. Long may you continue in this field of interest. Cheers 🇳🇿
I have only just fond your videos and I'm really impressed in what you do , I haven't been forging much lately but you have reignited the interest in the one thing that will keep from going insane in retirement . Thank you for the Inspiration . Cheers from Australia . 👍🤠
Nice work. Thank you for sharing. I saw this artefact when it visited our local art museum last year. I came home and built my own as was inspired by its power too. Again, great work 😊
Beautifully done. made one years ago. and have to make another one coming up this July. also a wrangle staff. Loved the whole video. Thanks for taking the time to share.
@@lufolkcrafts from finds. Looks like yours from Gavle. The wrangle staff will be a copy of one a friend of mine made some years ago. I have always wanted to try to re create the Birka staff. That would be a nice challenge. I also need to work on doing one of the augers bits from the Mastermyr find chest this fall.
@@tombrown879 nice! Yes the mästermyr chest and tools is something i would like to forge as well. I have made a couple of axes from there but i would like to make more.
Really neatly done 👍. I need to make one of those for a friend, and you've set the nar pretty high 😂. I do need to learn forgewelding... Thanks for the detail and inspiration ❤.
I would like to know too. The staff I'm forging here is based on a find. On the original there were traces of leather on one of the pieces but it is unknown for what and why.
@@lufolkcrafts your very welcome! You give me a lot of inspiration, and share the same love of norse/germanic iron work. This is my "everyday channel", my smithing channel is BurntMushroomBlacksmithing. If I ever get enough subs to live stream from my phone I'd love to do a collaboration/dual build thingy with ya one day if you're ever interested. Take care!🤘🍻⚒️
Not so much nowadays. Guess I have learned the hard way...😅 It works well, I have a better feeling without gloves. But I am sure it is just something I got used to. If I would wear gloves I would probably get used to that as well.
May I just say, you are one hell of a smith. I know that level of work takes years of practice, and those welds are just beautiful. Nicely done!
Thank you very much for your kind words!

Thank you! Absolutely! Do you have the same interest?
I had the honor of making a similar staff for Eveylin Rysdyck, a friend, teacher and author. I was pleased to see the work again. Fine job as always.
Awesome! Thank you!
These are some really clean welds! Lovely reconstruction

Thank you! Awesome! Are you forging it based on a find or do you make it your own design?

Beautiful work!
Thank you!
You have a very nice style of working
Thank you!
Nice. As a fan of historic reproductions, who is particularly fascinated by Volva Stang's this was interesting to watch.
Happy to hear that! Thank you for watching!
You definitely do more work with the lights dimmed way down or off. Looks better. If I could do my work at night I would, but neighbors might complain

Just curious. What are the dangly bits at the end?

I'm in Sweden, and I have no idea where I can buy wrought iron bars from. Do you have a supplier or is there a store you recommend?

what is that powder added
Borax. Used as flux.
very nice and some really well practiced tecniques, I wonder how they used one though....it obviously was attached to something but what?
Thank you! It's interesting to speculate how it was used. We can do qualified guesses but we'll never know.
Just over 4 minutes in and those welds lookong good!
Thank you!
