***** Yeah but I'd rather use real buttons instead of the phone. And some applications don't close properly or let you save properly.. and they crash.. so.. eh
***** why do people like you always have to undermine people like me? Some people just want the authentic feel of the actual GameBoy without having to search online and spend possibly hundreds of dollars for games and a handheld. :T
+Skaterloo I tried to offer you a realistic alternative because he's probably never going to mass produce and sell these. Not everyone knows that there are emulators for Android. How on Earth is that "undermining" you?
If i had the proper material, yes. But i´m not sayng that it was easy to do, i´m just explaining to some people that are asking in the comments how he did it.
The Forgotten Rose One of the coolest gameboys I have ever seen! The fact its all custom made the video said "No Emulation" I believe it never seen the graphic user interface before.
Brian Maglinger actually the games on nes, snes, gameboy and gameboy color are all emulated. The gba and nintendo ds games are running on original hardware
I never thought I would like it but the lights and the speaker(s) are really great for showing off the brilliance of the chiptunez. I love it! You can skip to 10:42 to get rid of the annoying repetitive modern music.
That's some craftsmanship. I love the flashing light going with the blasting tune. Ahh nothing beats good ol SMB music. Really like that color scheme too.
Its amazing! A gameboy, gameboy color, gaameboy advance, and ds all in one! You sir are amazing!!! WOW i wish i had one.I love the colors black and green is awesome. The 2nd speaker, great idea! And the lights in the back, great add on. This sir is one of the most amazing things ive ever witnessed in my entire life.
You really need to find some way to mass produce this. Its freaking amazing and I would pay so much money for it its not even funny. I don't know how you would go about doing that but just find a way. Posting a video about this for all of us gamers to see is cool, but we are all crying about how this wonderful piece of technology from heaven is unobtainable. I know there isnt much you can do, but we would all love something like what you have just made. There have been mass produced emus in the past (such as the dingoo a320 emulator) that just don't cut it. But this... this is the gamer's dream.
I have one of these. it's called a modded psp. Really, you can get all these features on psp, and you don't even need custom firmware. The psp can also do N64, and I don't see that in here. what I'm trying to say here, is that it's obtainable.
Guys, getting one of these isn't hard at all. There are many sites like Willgoo and Amazon that sell Android based handheld consoles that can emulate PS1, N64, SNES, NES, all of the Gameboys, etc. They can go for about 200 dollars are are very worth it.
Joey Sofia this isn’t android, it’s a DS in a gameboy shell, or boots into the R4 menu and the gameboy emulator is a .NDS file, the files used in DS games
Adam Jensen this has a flash cart which allows nds to run homebrew to run game boy and nes and what not so if you fut a flash cart into a nds it could run the same thing as this
I feel like it's be awkward to use buttons on the sides. Also you showed Metroid Fusion, not Zero Mission. You can see the GF personnel behind Samus, this is before parts of her suit have to be surgically removed due to the X parasites. Also, that enemy she fights does not live on Zebes. Go watch the intro to Fusion.
What a great project. You should work for Nintendo of America making those kind of projects. Many grown-ups and kids would love to have this all Gameboy game portable.
Let me break this down for the people wanting to buy this.... It is a DS with a "R4 Flash cart" inside a repainted gameboy shell. At the very most this took him around $300, it is not worth your money and I bet ANYONE could make this....
the basic hardware is pretty simple, the only hard part are all the lights and fitting it in the case. (Have to give him credit for the idea, and it looks nice.)
I see what all of you guys mean, but I have something that can do the samething, and I got it for $20. All I did was put an R4 card in my DS lite. It's not to hard to get what he's having without all the fancy lights.
+Edvard Hansson because they would make less money out of it... there prefere to sell you cheap stuff that is shiny in order to convience you its worth the money...
Well, they kinda did. It's the 2DS. If you buy the right flash/hack cartridge (like Sky3ds) you can play games ranging from NES to 3DS. It doesn't look exactly like a gameboy but it's close enough.
It'd be nice on their throwback consoles if they just threw an sd slot in there and said "we'll let you figure out what to do with this". Otherwise its not worth it to buy because they only come with 20 games, 3 of which I'd be interested in
+Liam Crosby Many [ds] games didn't use two [both] screens and even ones that did, often many only needed one to really play. Many games only used second screen for token effects.
Aaaahhhhh man! I can't even express how damn awesome this thing is! I'd buy this over an xbox one any time, even if it would cost me two times as much!
Andrew RigidBot what is an approximate cost to build one like in the link you have provided do you happen to know that looks like something I would be very much interested in making but I'm just curious how much it might cost??? thanks in advance :-)
It's disgusts me how I'll never have something like this. I wish that these deities of the gaming world could make these for people. Huh..... Dreams... All of it. X(
So basically this handheld emulator device allows for DS to NES games to be played all within the palm of one's hands? Nintendo. You're sitting on a goldmine. But hey, put all your eggs in one basket, right? What can go wrong with the 3DS that burns children's eyes?
the 3ds/2ds has NES to GBC (not n64) on E-shop but you have to pay and 3ds has backwards compatability with the original DS. And the 3ds was one of the best selling consoles so it kinda was a gold mine. but i would still get this since its free
OrangeSteelStudios , at first you could play minecraft and ps2 games on a good r4i chip on the 3ds now,3ds blocks r4i cards and has crappy game catalog, i have been a game boy boy my whole life but 3ds kinda sux bro these modded/old game boys are the way to go, get a nintendo ds origional and an r4 chip and you can do tons of shit
Nice. Save states are hard to avoid when they're just right in front of you. You think "I wanna beat this fair and square. I want to actually BEAT this." Then I just go for the save states. I'm glad people are finding new ways to play older games.
Geiles Teil. So fett wie das Teil auch damals war, in diesem Style würde ich auch so einen haben wollen. Ein bisschen schöner würde es noch aussehen, hätte das Display einen GameBoy-Aufkleber.
(mutters to self) This is probably what that abandoned Nintendo 32/'Project Atlantis' handheld would've been like… For a pre-/non-Pi build, this is… absolutely amazing. (I hope that came out right…)
my main gripe with this is that it doesn't have the top screen for the DS games, many games use it to display the main game, like for instance neither of the Megaman ZX games would be playable on this and ones that don't often make use of it by displaying important game info.
the super mario delux part looks funny. Like it didn't calculate when the hit sprite get's hit. It's by the menu, you can tell because part of it scrolls.
I wish there was some way of getting one of these but it's kind of a one time thing and I suppose it took a very long time to make, well done for doing so anyway =)
Cool man! -- If I were gonna copycat it, I'd use a GBA (original wide) style enclosure -- just because the dpad and the buttons so close together on the original that it would kill my hands.
I need one of these for reasons. Although I do thing L and R should be on the back where your fingers would normally go. My suggestion if anything, would be something like SCUF does with their game controllers, with small paddles to press the buttons. That way you could press the buttons from different positions, and still keep it somewhat flat.
for those who asking themselves how he did it: hust search in youtube for raspberry pi gameboy. after you did you can put it in a case looking like a gameboy. actually is this thing a mini computer running linux so you can emulate gameboy images.
You should mass produce and sell these. I would totally buy this if it were available.
+Skaterloo If its mostly emulators then most Android phones can run them with ease.
***** Yeah but I'd rather use real buttons instead of the phone. And some applications don't close properly or let you save properly.. and they crash.. so.. eh
Skaterloo You can use a controller on your phone.
Very well maid project. One of the best I've seen in a good while even though it's only a game boy project. I like it.
It's nothing more than a Nintendo DS without the top screen in a Gameboy shape running various emulators.
+Lucas Oliveira And a shitton of leds everywhere.
+Lucas Oliveira you know how to make it then ?
If i had the proper material, yes. But i´m not sayng that it was easy to do, i´m just explaining to some people that are asking in the comments how he did it.
I WANT THIS GAMEBOY SO BABDLY!!!
I NEED IT!!!
The Forgotten Rose me too
The Forgotten Rose One of the coolest gameboys I have ever seen!
The fact its all custom made the video said "No Emulation" I believe it never seen the graphic user interface before.
Brian Maglinger actually the games on nes, snes, gameboy and gameboy color are all emulated. The gba and nintendo ds games are running on original hardware
Maravilloso!!! El acabado y ver todo bien armado y en su lugar... Realmente hermoso!
Just take my money. Just shut up and take my money. I will give you access to my bank account so just take my money.
Sorry it was sold
NESKidU DAMN IT!
You should have called it the Gameman
Yeah, but it'd sound like Gay-Man.
TheNorton27
Shut up, Gay-Boy
lol his file is lameboy.nds
jlui02
Actually, that's the emulators name :D
I never thought I would like it but the lights and the speaker(s) are really great for showing off the brilliance of the chiptunez. I love it!
You can skip to 10:42 to get rid of the annoying repetitive modern music.
So not only did you trick out the original Gameboy to be a modern device, but you used my fav Tetris remix. Subbed.
I seriously hope you make more. This is absolutely amazing!
Shutup, and take my money!
MINES TOO!!!!
MINES TOO!!!!!..........
That's some craftsmanship. I love the flashing light going with the blasting tune. Ahh nothing beats good ol SMB music. Really like that color scheme too.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
This man is my hero. He has made the perfect handheld and it makes me want to cry that I can't have one.
Dear Santa...
Tell you what this is something you can't buy at your local store, or anywhere for that matter! This is amazing!
*throws money to the screen*
Its amazing! A gameboy, gameboy color, gaameboy advance, and ds all in one! You sir are amazing!!! WOW i wish i had one.I love the colors black and green is awesome. The 2nd speaker, great idea! And the lights in the back, great add on. This sir is one of the most amazing things ive ever witnessed in my entire life.
Everything was like Meh until the DS appeared. Sadly it only had one screen.
You really need to find some way to mass produce this. Its freaking amazing and I would pay so much money for it its not even funny. can I get a link to a video or something...?
Guys, getting one of these isn't hard at all. There are many sites like Willgoo and Amazon that sell Android based handheld consoles that can emulate PS1, N64, SNES, NES, all of the Gameboys, etc. They can go for about 200 dollars are are very worth it.

Who knew that the music in Super Mario Bros was that awesome when played through a decent speaker!
I would pay a large amount of money for one of these(with the fancy case as well)
i asked him questions about it, ill tell you when he responds me (if he does)
as well wood I (but I do not want the case)
it's just a modded Nintendo DS
don't be fooled
and that's not Metroid Zero Mission! is Metroid Fusion's INTRO!
elchi2103 THANK YOU
Best and most professional looking mod EVER! That must have taken quite some time to make.
so this is pretty much a DS inside a Gameboy case.
It can play original Gameboy games, something the DS cannot, which can only play Gameboy Advanced games.
Adam Jensen this has a flash cart which allows nds to run homebrew to run game boy and nes and what not so if you fut a flash cart into a nds it could run the same thing as this
***** Still, it's pretty sweet that it's all in one package.
Advance*
That's disgustingly awesome. GREAT video too. Give yourself another pat on the back sir, job very very well done.
I have some questions
1.Can you make Anotherone?
2.Can you sell it to me?
3.How much?
I would also get one. but in classic colors (grey). so, self questions like jean a greetings
Was gonna say "Meh,my phone can do this" but,it brings me back to those days...good times ;D
If it has a link cable, I'll take twenty.
"Some Ds games can also be played witch dont use the Bottom LCD or touchscreen."
Video descriptions are nice.
I feel like it's be awkward to use buttons on the sides.

The workvlog is in the description, go take a look to see all the process, it's not that simple :)
i'm not saying that anyone could do this i'm just saying it's not a "DS with a "R4 Flash cart" inside a repainted gameboy shell"
the basic hardware is pretty simple, the only hard part are all the lights and fitting it in the case. (Have to give him credit for the idea, and it looks nice.)
I see what all of you guys mean, but I have something that can do the samething, and I got it for $20. All I did was put an R4 card in my DS lite. It's not to hard to get what he's having without all the fancy lights.
***** Agreed
This NEEDS to be Mass produced!
why the f did not nintendo release something like this....
+The Rare Zebra Chicken LOL
+Edvard Hansson because they would make less money out of it... there prefere to sell you cheap stuff that is shiny in order to convience you its worth the money...

Love the Tetris remix in the beginning
putting the ds games was kinda stupid be cause theres no second screen
+Liam Crosby So sad that people don't read desc
+Liam Crosby read the description
Even if it had an second screen it wouldn't be touch screen
+Liam Crosby Many [ds] games didn't use two [both] screens and even ones that did, often many only needed one to really play. Many games only used second screen for token effects.
Wow it's been YEARS since I first heard this song on the Newgrounds audio portal.
I would pay a lot of money for one of these :/
Aaaahhhhh man!
I can't even express how damn awesome this thing is!
I'd buy this over an xbox one any time, even if it would cost me two times as much!
Metroid fusion btw....Not Zero Mission. lol
It is zero mission, in fusion her suit is blue
1:08 Trust me, I should know. That's Metroid Fusion. It's the intro of the game, when you start it.
Madara Uchiha I believe that you are right /watch?v=6NrN7QiEyhQ at 0:29
Yeah, I know I am. #1 I'm a huge METROID nut #2 I own the games. lol
I came here to say that =(
This project was ahead of its time. It was the Gameboy zero BEFORE the raspberry pi even came out 😂
Do you guys think you can attempt to make this with a Raspberry Pi too? Would it be more expensive than just using an old DSi board?
I didn't realize this wasn't a Raspberry Pi -- I guess that explains how he fit it in that case.
Yeah, of course. There's a lot of emulator boxes like that. That's why I was confused that this wasn't just another Raspberry Pi.
Keep in mind though, *****, the Raspberry Pi ones are thicker than this.
astroman0500 Hey you can find a guide for doing that right here: learn.adafruit.com/pocket-pigrrl
Andrew RigidBot what is an approximate cost to build one like in the link you have provided do you happen to know that looks like something I would be very much interested in making but I'm just curious how much it might cost???
thanks in advance :-)
Because this project was just ideas ontop of ideas, they arent hard to use, just like adjusting sound on your smartphone
OMG! I want one!! (*_*)
It's disgusts me how I'll never have something like this. I wish that these deities of the gaming world could make these for people. Huh..... Dreams... All of it. X(
Need one !! NOW
Me to
This looks epic though. I would buy one. That's why there's rechargeable batteries. :)
were can I buy it o.o I want one
That's some impressive work you've done. Made the gaming geek in me proud.
So its a hacked ds lite?
checkout wermy he hacked up ds lite controlls
Fun fact: This mod is nothing more than an R4, EZ Flash, and DS Lite inside a Gameboy with some fancy additions.
So basically this handheld emulator device allows for DS to NES games to be played all within the palm of one's hands?
Nintendo. You're sitting on a goldmine. But hey, put all your eggs in one basket, right? What can go wrong with the 3DS that burns children's eyes?
Companies simply don't and won't make this shit.
The end.
it doesn't burns kids eyes and the 3D is optional, just saying
It's the money they want.
the 3ds/2ds has NES to GBC (not n64) on E-shop but you have to pay and 3ds has backwards compatability with the original DS. And the 3ds was one of the best selling consoles so it kinda was a gold mine. but i would still get this since its free

Wow. You must have spent thousands of games to have such a huge library to keep a legal back up of!
...
Nice. Save states are hard to avoid when they're just right in front of you. You think "I wanna beat this fair and square. I want to actually BEAT this." Then I just go for the save states. I'm glad people are finding new ways to play older games.
He is using a ds software. He basically shoved the ds in that tiny game boy. Lol pretty awesome idea man! I might try it myself!
Amazing what the right hands can do with super glue, duct tape, a special screwdriver and a dremel. Nice work!
this is one of the most amazing mods i have ever seen
Geiles Teil. So fett wie das Teil auch damals war, in diesem Style würde ich auch so einen haben wollen. Ein bisschen schöner würde es noch aussehen, hätte das Display einen GameBoy-Aufkleber.
.......This looks like the most ultimate gaming system ever.I'm speechless.....
Bad idea sell with "buy it now"
If you only accept bids, sure you will make a lot of money, because this is awesome.
You should totally make more of these! I'd buy one.
Metroid Zero Mission in the intro is actually Metroid Fusion. :P
(mutters to self) This is probably what that abandoned Nintendo 32/'Project Atlantis' handheld would've been like…
For a pre-/non-Pi build, this is… absolutely amazing. (I hope that came out right…)
pretty awesome. would love to have one of these. did a great job; wish i could fit all the emus/roms off my wii onto a handheld like this
I remember I watched this when I was a kid..I wanted this so bad
The Gameboy after it was cool, now even cooler!
the footage from "metroid zero mission" is actually from metroid fusion
Very inspiring I decided to design me own gameboy great job keep up the good work! :D
my main gripe with this is that it doesn't have the top screen for the DS games, many games use it to display the main game, like for instance neither of the Megaman ZX games would be playable on this and ones that don't often make use of it by displaying important game info.
the super mario delux part looks funny. Like it didn't calculate when the hit sprite get's hit. It's by the menu, you can tell because part of it scrolls.
wow, when I was a kid, I use to think about this, but you make it better than I thought, you are awesome, please take my money :C
That homemade Gameboy model is very cool! I like to get that one!
Wow that tetris electronica made me dance wow..... Dude awesome opening music
I have seen at the end of the video and you are a master of the electronics.
Really it is a masterpiece!!
Words fail to express how badass this is. Gods I want one XD
That footage of metroid zero mission is really metroid fusion
that zero mission looked like metroid fusion intro for a second.
Holy crap i like the LED lights in the back game slot!
Awesome!
Also, a great idea for DS emulation would be an option to switch from top to bottom screens.
That is pretty boss, would like to see more projects like this.
good work!
I've seen some of those adapters before. I've wondered if they worked well or not. Considered getting one at one time too.
I wish there was some way of getting one of these but it's kind of a one time thing and I suppose it took a very long time to make, well done for doing so anyway =)
this is art dude
Im a hacked psp player but i love gameboys they need to come out with a remake
Wow this is the best game boy mod I've ever seen. It's just sick!! I need one of these! Lol
Wish these were for sale, would probably make my life. XD Seriously tho.
that looks awesome you should make a store or something that would be so cool
You r so genius building ultimate gameboy with DS board ez flash its fantastic!!!
hell I would have abandoned CRT TVs for this baby
he's playing metroid fusion when it comes up as Metroid: Zero Mission
Cool man! -- If I were gonna copycat it, I'd use a GBA (original wide) style enclosure -- just because the dpad and the buttons so close together on the original that it would kill my hands.
Episch! Mooie afwerking van de knoppen enzo!
I need one of these for reasons. Although I do thing L and R should be on the back where your fingers would normally go. My suggestion if anything, would be something like SCUF does with their game controllers, with small paddles to press the buttons. That way you could press the buttons from different positions, and still keep it somewhat flat.
and it could have wings and fly, and a mouth attachment for oral stimulation.
readyrepairs Agreed
for those who asking themselves how he did it: hust search in youtube for raspberry pi gameboy. after you did you can put it in a case looking like a gameboy. actually is this thing a mini computer running linux so you can emulate gameboy images.
holy shit. hoe kun je dit doen?! Zo cool. nooit gedacht dat ik ooit zoiets zou zien :D
this is awesome. the sp would be good if all the stuff could fit in it
