From their while supplies last sale I got: I'll be seeing you, Intermezzo, Made for each other, Nothing sacred, Portrait of jennie, and The woman in the window. Great prices!
Those two James Cruze silent films are favorites of mine, especially Old Ironsides. They're very grandiose and adventurous. Unfortunately there's some sketchy animal treatment in The Covered Wagon but it's luckily pretty brief.
I’ve meant to see them for ages. I know I’ve at least seen parts of one or both before. Thanks for the heads up. Even understanding historical context pre-aspca protections it’s very tough seeing mistreatment in older films.
Just ordered 'Hannibal', 'Inherit the Wind', and 'The Producers' today, since Unobstructed View is having their Kino sale for the whole month of May instead. 'Some Like It Hot' is already on Back Order because it was in their email/flyer. Oh well, later in the month maybe.
Hey Spencer --great picks, as usual. Yeah, Witney had an interesting career. I don't think his westerns are anything but pleasant potboilers, no matter how much Tarantino wants to dwell in a bizarre alternate dimension where Witney's western filmography towers over Ford's output. That said, the serials are fun, and Republic's Trucolor palette has its eccentric charms (particularly on Eureka's new special edition of JOHNNY GUITAR)...
Haha the alternate QT bizarre dimension. I’m glad he promotes Witney but from what I’ve seen a lot of the films he did mostly weren’t the best of scripts etc. Action wise he was pretty untouchable. When I got older and realized both he and Norman Foster did a big chunk of Disney’s Zorro series it was a major eureka moment. 4k scan and trucolor in the same sentence and I’m drooling no matter what the film is. But I do that regardless of what format, widescreen process or color system was utilized.😆
That’s cool. I wondered if that art had turned up anywhere else. The LD itself is rather uncommon but sadly rotted so I’ve only kept it because of the jacket.
Great picks up my only problem I got with Kino is the Blu-Ray are region locked so unless they hit UHD I am kinda stuck unfortunately. Unless I go the digital look on streaming or hunt like a mad man in a shop and hope for best. It starting to annoying me a bit as they do have something I like but again region locked.
Great choices and very informative video as always! But a little surprising to hear, you haven’t picked up one of the KL actor sets before?! Sadly KL mentioned, that those sets performed poorly for them and they are not planning on releasing any further actor sets, so it seems unlikely to me, that they would release those single titles on their own, after the box sets sold out. I picked up all the sets on release date, to show support for the line. Especially the Barbara Stanwyck Set is really awesome. Greetings from Germany! Chris
Nice! Yesterday I got three Kino Lorber Blu-rays of the Mel Brooks movies “The Producers”, “Spaceballs”, and “Life Stinks”.
I grabbed a few recently - season 1 of Night Gallery, the silent 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Hunchback, and the Edgar Ulmer sci-fi set.
Those are some great choices. Some I still need too. That’s Kino: in for one and then you think of the 900 you don’t have yet.🤣

I got the 4K version of The Apartment and Touch of Evil.

The Indicator LE of The Anderson Tapes uses the LD artwork on the booklets front cover.

Covered Wagons!!

Unfortunately you have to go region free as with other labels or region locked titles due to licensing.

I always meant to check one of them out. Better late than never I suppose.
