- It took me by surprise to find abundance of Ice Plant / Ice Lettuce (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) in California. This edible has the texture no other plants can match. It is truly a one of a kind food to grow and eat!

you dont eat any plants beside the road cause some people might peed on them. just saying
Extra nutrients. Also, you forgot about the people who break into gardens, and piss into your greenhouse. Even when you think you've shielded it from any source of urine- a cloud may come over and "rain" on it.
Some people are afraid of anything, just don't eat salad out of a urinal, and you'll be okay.

We've got these growing like crazy all over our farm for some reason and I found out that it was used as a substitute for soap once upon a time so I have crushed up some leaves to see if it will work. I haven't been able to find any instructions on how to make the soap so I'm just winging it. Thank you for sharing your foraging experience of ice plant. I've tasted it also and it's quite nice 😊
Ice lettuce grows well in Washington area (Seattle). Was not aware they loved humidity / moisture so much, but it makes sense with all the showers ... followed up hour or couple hours later of bright sun all the time.

Yesterday i got a daycream containing ice plant.. 😊 Seem to be a very good ingredient for dry skin.

Do you know if you can propagate these from cutting? I planted some seeds last year, got a terrible germination rate, and the plants grew really really slowly, like a lot of perennials do from seed.
