Cool! Welcome, Roger! Ceramics sound amazing- I think you’ll enjoy leather as well! Sometimes wet-molding leather almost feels like working with clay! Looking forward to what’s ahead here on this channel and I’m so glad you’re here! Be in touch! -Tanner
Straight up subscribed. Very clean and simple way to explain things. Great attitude. I'm hooked, sir. PS. It's not fair how cool your tools and machines are. It's simply not fair.
Thank you, Martin! I am so glad you’re here! Your kind words mean so much. Please keep in touch! As for the tools, I promise I started out working at the kitchen table with $20 stitching punches from Amazon. It’s a slow accumulation! 😀🙏🏼
@@ClaridgeLeather Thanks for the words of encouragement! Hopefully I'll be able to upload some content of mine soon. All that is besides the point. I'm already a huge fan and looking forward to the next video!
Yes! That's awesome! Thanks for coming! Hope you find something helpful here! I always like to hear what you want to learn (specifically)! Cheers! -Tanner
Yes! UA-cam is such a great platform for teaching (compared to insta). Glad you are making the shift! Can’t wait to get back up there this summer and do some projects with you. -Luke
Tanner: Videos I would love to see would ones that show a tool that you initially used and then found something better. Not necessarily more expensive but better for you. Example. I cut on an oversized cutting board I ordered online. I use that instead of a rubber type mat I bought specifically made for leather craft. Another example: Punching surface. I cut that old cutting mat into smaller squares and now punch through my leather into the squares. What do you like as a backer for punching leather. Don't get me started on knives and holders. Literally I have 10 different knives and none are my 'go to' knife for cutting leather. I even have one like you have in the opening. That brass holder with the long thin blade. I cannot get that blade as sharp as I need it. Have all the diamond stones and a good strop.
Thank you for your support, Tricia! Can’t wait to make some stuff here with you! Always feel free to let me know what you’d like to see in upcoming videos!
Hello Tanner. I found your channel last night and subscribed after the first video. I’ve been wanting to attempt my first leather project, an apron just like what you are wearing! I watched the pocket video, but how about doing a video on the whole apron? Oh, and what’s the tool you used to finish the edges on the pocket?
Hi Steven, I look forward to making an apron video! Stay tuned! The tool I used to finish those edges is called a rotary burnisher, made from cocobolo wood (fits in a Dremel tool). I don’t use it to burnish all types of leather, but it worked well on this! Thank you for your support!
Sure! I will definitely touch on that in a future video- the short story is that I needed a leather holster but didn’t want to pay for one... I found some leather, a pattern, and a UA-cam video and had a pretty good result! Made another one, then another, and the rest is history! Pretty common story, I think, but it has sure been an enjoyable journey, meeting lots of great people and developing new skills! Thanks for watching!!
Tanner, this sounds incredible and I would enjoy learning more techniques from you. I do this as a full time hobby, I am disabled and found this to be good therapy for my mind and hands. I've been doing this for about a year but still consider myself a novice. I have been told by family and friends that I should try selling some work but I am my worst critic and do t feel it's good enough. I would be in your debt if I could get some pointers from you.
Look out youtube! Tanner's going to bring some heat!! Can't wait to see the vids man:)
