Budgie Sounds! The calls of wild budgerigars (parakeets) in outback Australia

- Over 80 minutes of budgie sounds & calls of from the Australian outback. Many flocks of wild budgerigars (parakeets) were feeding on grass, and pairs were nesting in the nearby eucalyptus trees at this location and the sounds of them flying around & calling were a constant feature of the soundscape.
I recorded this audio in 2020 in far western New South Wales after a few weeks of good rain which had triggered the budgies to breed in large numbers. The budgerigars would often be seen in noisy flocks of over 500 birds and were nesting in tree hollows along creeklines. Other species heard in this recording include Red-backed Kingfisher, Diamond Dove, Crimson Chat, Chestnut-crowned Babbler, Bourke's Parrot, Rufous Songlark, Singing Honeyeater, Willie Wagtail, Masked Woodswallow and Zebra Finch.

Thank you SO MUCH for this! My budgie LOVES this moreso than the happy budgies we usually watch in the aviaries. He's been a little depressed with his best buddy (my husband) away for almost a week, but he perked right up at hearing this. Started chirping, even dancing, and playing again! He got mad and fussed at me when it ended, so here were are playing another round!

Oh wow I had no idea Zebra finches lived in Australia I had my first pet from there under my nose this whole time?! I thought my parakeet was the first. I learned something from this. o-o Also beautiful bird calls my parakeet is enjoying this. ♥ aaaa I miss the zebra finches sounds. ;3;

Lol it’s not a bird shop. You can hear other Australian bird calls throughout it that would not be for sale in a bird shop, like crested pigeon, rufous songlark, Willie wagtail, chestnut crowned babbler, crimson chat etc.
I’ve experienced noisescapes like this near broken hill, New South Wales. Beautiful stuff.
100% in the wild - I recorded it in Sturt National Park. But with the Zebra Finches, Diamond Doves and abundant budgies (all common pet shop birds!) I do get how it it could sound like one. That was a very good year for desert birds with plenty of rain and they were all breeding and very active.
I have budgies on an outdoor aviary and often video them in slow motion. When you do that they sometimes sound just like magpies. Give it a try and let me know if you hear it too.
