    Not long ago, I saw several appliances at Goodwill that looked like they had all come out of a restaurant. What mostly caught my eye was a great microwave and toaster oven. Problem is, I have both so better to leave them for someone who might not have them. I'm about 99% sure your appliance is a vintage IC. Well, it's avocado so we know it's vintage lol.

      Maybe more like 100% 😀 And good on ya for resisting the temptation. I’ve had to train myself to do the same, lol.

    I shop at Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma because I like the Instagrammable picture-perfect kitchen counter. Ha! Whatever floats your boat.

    It wasn’t the thrift store but my sister gave me an Oster kitchen center that she never used. OMG! I love it! So versatile!

    I got a like-new bread machine a few months the ago, manual included, for $14.99 at Goodwill. It works great and I make bread every week.
    I'd been looking for a small slow cooker for about a year and finally found one, new in the box, for $10.99 at Goodwill. I think a bride may have had it on her list and received more than one.
    Now I'm in the market for an air fryer!

      Fantastic finds! Those have no doubt paid for themselves many times over. And good news on the air fryer front: I see at least one or two every time I go to the thrift these days.

    I was waiting for almost a year for a free bread maker to come up in one of my local free things facebook groups. I also checked for them in the thrift stores but often times they didn't have the paddle, and weren't half off. About 3 weeks ago I finally caved and bought one for $7.50, half off at the thrift store. Low and behold a week later a free bread maker was given away in one of the groups. I was devastated.

      Well I’d say getting a bread maker for $7.50 is almost as good as free. Use it once or twice and it’s paid for itself 🙌

    Some appliance bargains I scored: a Zojirushi rice cooker (about $80 new for $15), a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker (same as the one you had in the video) for $2, and a Cuisinart tabletop convection oven (~$200 new for $25). Appliances often times are missing some accessories when you find them in a thrift store; that's a hidden cost.

    My best thrift store deal was a Sunbeam Mixmaster stand mixer from the late sixties with both bowls and beaters for $15 aboout five years ago, I use it at least once a week and it still works great. I also got a new-in-box Crock Pot at seventy-five percent off for $4 something that I've used for years. I also got a fancy bread machine for fifteen dollars that didb't work at all and wound up in the trash. Overall I've done okay

    • @IWantToCook
      @IWantToCook  3 місяці тому +1

      I’d say so! That Sunbeam alone is a prize! 👍

    I picked up a Zojirushi bread making machine for $30. It was selling for over $275 new. My wife loves it.

    How do you like the Oster French door counter top oven. I've used mine for about 8 years and is a wonderful piece of equipment.

    • @IWantToCook
      @IWantToCook  10 місяців тому

      Glad to hear you’re enjoying yours! It’s a nice machine but ended up being returned since it ate up too much counter space. Great alternative to a regular oven, though. 👍

    Never find appliances in my small town Goodwill. Was an Instant Pot rice cooker and that should have gone into the garbage. I got one for Xmas three years back and it is the worst! I bought the most basic rice cooker from Zojirushi. One single button and it was $40 new on Amazon. I'm happy with it!
    I have found some cookware, baking pans and some small gadgets.
    I have a tiny low income housing apartment kitchen which has 2 ft of counterspace and almost nothing for cabinets. I have basics on wire shelves in my living room. So I have to plan what I buy carefully.

    • @IWantToCook
      @IWantToCook  Рік тому

      Very wise. And those Zojirushis are legendary for making perfect rice. Great buy.

      @@IWantToCook I find the ones that goes beyond basic to be wasted money. 1 button, 1 function.

    I agree & probably alot cheaper some of my kitchen appliances were expensive. I just don't care much about buying used items cause its hard to clean them after someone has used them im just picky. Lol

    The problem with all these appliances is storage space. I'd love all of them, but don't have the space. Also, I heard that old Kitchen Aid stand mixers had all metal parts inside and that is why they last a lifetime. Newer ones have plastic parts inside, or so I've heard.

    • @IWantToCook
      @IWantToCook  Рік тому +1

      Good points. And about those KitchenAids, I believe you are correct. I forgot to mention I scored one for $30 a while back. Here’s the video on it: Why This Thrift Store KitchenAid Is So Special

      Good tip on thrifting in affluent areas. I do that when I can, but have also had luck in less-wealthy spots. You never know what you’ll find, and for me that’s a big part of the fun and why I thrift 👍

      I like charity shops (UK) that look like jumble sales. You have to watch them. I saw two convection ovens for GBP 35 when shops were selling them for 40. Might as well have a new one for the difference in price

    • @IWantToCook
      @IWantToCook  Рік тому +1

      Indeed. Some second-hand shops don't price certain pieces accordingly, and in such cases you're better off buying new. Cheers!

    I should look more at that section of the thrift store. I'd like a waffle maker. I bought a mini one once, but it doesn't work well. Just a bad product.

    • @IWantToCook
      @IWantToCook  Рік тому +1

      Waffle maker is another excellent appliance to nab at the thrift. I see them all the time. Obviously, look for ones in which the surface isn’t destroyed. The route I went was getting a Cuisineart Griddler (from the thrift, natch, then bought the interchangeable waffle plates for it. Happy hunting!
