First time in a long while that classical guitar playing has made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Incredible talent. Such hard graft of years of intense, detailed practise create a guitarist of this skill and it's extraordinary that she has obviously lost none of her innate love of music in the process. Beautiful, music. Classical guitar at it's best.
This was my introduction to Invocacion y Danza by Rdrigo. It was instantly amongst my favorite pieces. It also introduced me to Xuefei Yang who is now one of my favorite guitarists, her Bach album is truly a wonder. 8 years late, but hey...lol.
I came here searching for the hardest thing to play on a guitar and I don't think I have to that I got what I came for. She's truly spellbinding, absolutely incredible.
I was lucky enough to be in a masterclass with this guitarist back in 2005 and I still think her technical proficiency is in a class of its own, to give such a voice to one of the most demanding pieces out there, suberb!
If there's a guitar goddess, she's definitely one. Technically exceptional, musically expressive. Words can't do justice to what she does with the guitar.
Rodrigo wrote this piece to honor Venezuelan guitarist Alirio Diaz, one of the greatest guitarists the world has ever seen. Even Alirio Diaz waited several years to play it in a live concert because “ it was too hard“. Only a handful of masters have this piece in their repertoire....
This was truly a great performance. This piece is so impossibly difficult to play, and very hard to interpret musically too. Incredible what this lady showed here. Deepest compliments!
wow..u r musical to mesmerize audience for a spell-bound, that too unusually all around u with little disregard in ur musical touch, well including ' harmonics, 'tremolo, like tenderly areas, all pretty precise too..Thanks so much for this piece of Joquin Rodrigo..God bless u..warm cheers..siva..India..(guitsiva)..
I don't know Jack about classical guitar or this piece of music, but this sounded amazing, and I take it from the comments from proper aficionados that it WAS an amazing performance! Even to untrained ears pure talent shines through!
SHE IS THE GODDESS OF THE CLASSICAL GUITAR. i WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO SEE HER PLAYING THIS TERRIFIC PIECE OF MUSIC IN BOSTON BACK IN MARCH . IT WAS MAGICAL,PRECISE AND ANGELIC. THANK GOD FOR HER EXISTENCE.
very nice playing. what I find most interesting though is that this is the only Smallman guitar that i found sounding the most natural. If i was listening only without watching, i wouldn't have guessed it to be a smallman.
I like what I've seen on UA-cam, but I have never seen him live, so can't make a fully informed comment. I regret missing his San Francisco Bay Area concert in 2011. XueFei Yang, who I have seen live is coming to San Francisco in October 2013. Definitely both guitarists are top tier.
II just went to her concert a few days ago in NYC. Her skill is no doubt, great. You hardly hear any squeezing sound from her left hand when moving over the strings. Julian Bream makes quite a lot, even though he is one of the greatest guitarists. Ms Yang brings out the most beautiful sound from nylon string guitar. I really like her moving a lot more to transcription of music, quite a lot from traditional Chinese folk songs. This brings the Chinese music to the world and adds to the repertoire of guitar music. Maybe she needs to be a little bit more passionate when playing, especially with Spanish music. The contrast in interpretation could be done better, I think. She is Just WONDERFUL WONDERFUL ! ! ! ! ! ! KEEP GOING
how can ths man with the glasses behind her stay so motionless??? i think i'd scratch my nose a little :P anyway, nothing less to expect from X.Y. another great performace as always (jealous)
Wow, must be nice to have nerves of steel; good for her. Did some research on her; To my knowledge she's the only young relatively young guitarist that John Williams has given an explicit endorsement and wish for success; back in the 90s when she was barely out of high school. She didn't disappoint him.
I am an old guy who has played the guitar for many years and what I see is a shift in the way the guitar is being played - perhaps if you listen to Alirio Diaz play Seis por Derecho for example and compare the style of playing with Xuefei Yang you might get a sense that Diaz uses the guitar to express the music whereas now we have many young guitarists who use the music to express their own technique. The only great female guitarist in my view, and its a very subjective opinion, was Ida Presti who could produce a great sound and you just lost yourself in her music. So I think in answer to your question people probably were left cold by the performance which was very accomplished of course, but didn't talk to the audience. I didn't register a vote by the way!!!
+Paul MAK The more time you spend on guitar videos the more you'll realize people think they're psychic and know why people play and/or know whether or not their playing with emotion. In reality though, they simply aren't moved by the piece being played or the way it's played and interpret that as emotionless playing.
There should be a law banning people like that guy behind Xuefei sitting facing a camera on the musician. I sense more life from a hamburger than him. Her tremolo technique always reminds me of the Chinese traditional instrument of Pipa, which requires very smooth and consistent strumming. The effect is often used to depict the ebb and flow of water in traditional Chinese music.
You are right, this man look terrible. He didn't choose to be featured on the camera. Anyway, my taste for music and meal had since gone flat after watching this video.
That's Ralf, I think, from Kraftwerk. He is now a robot, or, as he prefers, a synthetic or "synthetisch". How a human cannot be moved by this is unknown.
There are one (or more) passages, such as here: 5:30, where even the grandmaster Barrueco has a problem. But apart from that, I can't get much out of her playing. Very clean but mechanical. What else can you expect from an Asian? Spanish way of life, Spanish temperament or Spanish mentality? Hardly, is it?
Wonderful technique! Congratulations! It seems to be so impressive, but I think that some times a piece doesn't need to be impressive to be nice to hear. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that I would like to hear it a litlle slower than this incredible performance and not so strong sound. Just a little more sweet! Perhaps, my way of thinking remained to the romantic age, and today people want to be impressed. If so forgive me for my thoughts and please admit my congratulations from my heart!
One of the most amazing performances that I have ever witnessed. Beautiful. She must be from another planet, with her skill level.

written by a blind composer who didn’t play guitar but was a brilliant pianist. incredible. rodrigo was a genius.
她是亚洲第一的女流吉他演奏家,有着音乐天赋,高超的技巧,演奏水平非常高。
This is one of the most virtuosic performances of classical guitar playing that I've ever heard.

Amazing performance. Excellent recording.
The whole production is a musical masterpiece ♫♪ღ♥☯

Amazing, it was like a story without words or picture. She's very talented.

Not true. It's not that bad. Concierto de Aranjuez is harder.
Wow! Absolutely phenomenal performance! Pure perfection!😃
I cannot breathe while in the fanatic part of her expression, I appreciate it so much.
I know so beautiful makes my tits hard
Hi. I have a nephew too Xuefei.
I love him very much too.
An excellent rendition, most appreciated.

Just discovered this video. Better late than never.
She elevates anything she plays. A risky and interesting piece.

at 3:21 I start to get shivers. She is the best performer I have ever seen.. John Williams , Julian Bream excepted:-)
Great player.

My nephew is Joey. He is my brother's son
I so wish there were a red heart button one could click on.
why all live music video has people coughing?
Don"t understand why so many dislike ....

Envy.
that Smallman is LOUD
@@rodneydaub3812 They usually do. This one sound exceptionally balanced.
I've been at sold out concerts of hers where she has invited people to sit on the stage.
There is not a more dynamic guitarist in all the world..
Wow
brava!
simple talent , what a great player , she makes anyone in a rock band look like an amateur

Awesome! I completely agree. It made that connection as well, and felt silly. I'm glad someone else sees this.
His face is funny

Yamashita?
I like Yamashita's version the most
Another amazing Greg Smallman Guitar
wonderfull playing. what a pity for the guy behind her and the logo beginning video....

Only Alirio Diaz 's version can compete with this one👏👏👏

Have you read your comment recently?
Was it easy for Joaquin?
Maybe.
Maybe he didn't even play it. Like Brouwer or York that can barely play their own music.
