      Gold Dot is the one that shines. I have dissected one, it's got a lot of powder, looks like Ramshot Enforcer and weighed higher than a typical max charge. Incredible energy, in a longer barrel with that powder type it should also be hitting .357 Magnum power.

    I've always liked the 32 caliber rounds. Auto and revolver. My 1st centerfire handgun, when I was 17, was a very old and battle worn, Iver Johnson- top break - 32 S&W (short only). I picked it up from a buddy for $20. He threw in a handful of green coated rounds for it. My GF bought me a leather IWB holster for it. And, she "liberated" a box of 32 ACP from her Dad and gave them to me. Being much younger, and dumber than I am now, I tried those in my 32. They fired just fine and I could tell they were much hotter than the green bullets. It's a miracle that old 1930 or 40"s revolver held up to those rounds !

    Sweet tests! Thanks for the mention! The only .327 round I loved was the 100 gr Gold Dots. They penetrated 15"+ and expanded to over .50" even with 4 layers of new 14 oz denim. But I like what I'm seeing here from the 75 gr Double-Tap loaded Tac-XPs! Finally, those HSTs are almost miraculous out of short barrel 9mms.

    • @GunSam

      I been patiently waiting for the new Federal HST in .357 Mag and .327 Federal announced at the beginning of the year. Gold Dots are pretty good, but wow are they powerful. I disassembled one and it had like 15 grains of Ramshot Enforcer powder, full to the top which is higher than load data shows, I think load data tops at 13.5 grains or so. In a 6" barrel that Gold Dot would have to be in the 600 FPE range!

    I'd love an 8 round .327 snubby with a 2.5" barrel. I just love revolvers man. something about em. I feel safer carrying a revolver then a semi. I draw, point, and fire faster with the revolver. But I wont deny that my groups do spread a bit more with a revolver after the initial 2 shots.

    Big fan of the Xtreme defenders, something to be said about a round being able to dump its energy without expansion. Run them in my 380, better than HP rounds that do not reliably expand (risk of pass through) or expand and under penetrate. Like a weird compromise, give up possible expansion to ensure reliable, predictable penetration. The 327, I would think it has enough velocity for reliable expansion.
    I have been eyeballing a 327 for a long while, but I will wait until I can get into reloading.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 роки тому +3

      I reload here and there for it, I find reloading .32 H&R Mag to be the best. With .327 reloads you got to get all fancy with the charges and crimps. With .32 H&R it's basically a mini .38 Special, can't mess it up but easily push an 85 gr at 1,000 FPS from a snub.

    After more than half a century I finally figured it out... If you're old enough, you remember that the Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and most of the heroes on TV and in cowboy movies, would all THROW the bullets out of their guns. I always wondered why, but now I know. The guns were all in .32 S&W Long and therefore needed that little bit of extra help to make it out the end of the barrel!!!

      I mean, I sort of liked it, the problem was the water. I would do a shot, have to basically disassemble my overhead camera, clean it, slip on mud, try to get back onto what I was doing. Doing 2 shots in gel is a 30 second transition. Two in jugs is like, 5 minutes and I cannot reuse jugs. Main point is it added stress and took away my personal fun, and no one wants to see my filming because I have to, they would rather see me relaxed.

    I'm complained on one of your recent videos about not being able to find ammo anywhere at any price; then low and behold, this past Saturday one of my local LGSs was having a Glock Day so I went by and asked if they had any .327 Federal Mag, H&R, or .32 long. They said hadn't seen any of that for months. But I looked on the shelves anyway and found some .327 Federal American Eagle 100 Grain Jacketed Soft Points rated at 1500 fps and 500 fpe. Needless to say I purchased 200 rounds at .74 cents per round. Going to shoot some this week out of my Ruger 4' GP100. Maybe we will start seeing more of it available.

      I been meaning to test that. I see it, then when I get paid it's gone, then once I get other supplies it appears again lol. One day I will have it. From what I understand, the 100 gr AE is equal to the 100 gr Speed Gold Dot (as Federal and Speer are sister companies) and the 85 gr AE is equal to the Federal Hydrashok 85 gr as far as energy. Huge difference, like 250 FPE for 85 gr and 430 FPE for 100 gr, and that's out of a 1.9" snub.

    If the industry made an centerfire magnum in the range of .20-.30 i think i would do everything I could to get my hands on it . Actually was leaning towards .257 and I believe there is an round in that range but I believe it's an tapered rifle round , I believe it's called .257 Robert's . If they did make an centerfire magnum round in .20-.30 range do you think it would be adequate for self defense and with the average size revolver how many rounds would fit in the cylinder , 8 , 9 , 10 etc . Actually I think I would be happy if they threw an primer in an 22lr/mag/short . Which draws up another question : if you make an 22 rimfire into an centerfire will it perform better in the regards of more power and/or more reliable ?

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 роки тому

      The problem though, is that primers are standardized in small, and large. Even a .25 ACP barely holds the small primer. I believe it was John Browning that wanted to go smaller for a centerfire handgun, but .25" was as small as it could be done, any smaller and there wouldn't be enough brass to hold the primer.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  Рік тому +1

      They are more or less, like comparing 9mm to .357 Mag. Both are high pressured, I think both are 45,000 PSI or even 50,000 just like 9mm+P+ is higher than .357 Mag pressure, but the revolver case holds a lot more powder. In terms of short barrels a .357 Mag averages 450 ft lbs and a 9mm+P about 375 ft lbs. I would say about the same thing is going on with .327/.30 SC. Maybe about 400 ft lbs for the .327 snub and 325 ft lbs for the .30 SC in a subcompact. Comparable, but the .327/.30 SC are meant for shorter barrels and thus both will have less energy lost, making them more efficient and less recoiling.

      .357 Mag would probably do "better", but the 100 gr American Eagle soft point is going to be your best bet for .327 Federal, really powerful, pretty close to .357 Mag. A hard cast .38+P loaded by Underwood or Buffalo Bore is near as good as .357 or .327. Ultimately though, black bears are known for running away when shot with a .22 so I don't think anything you have wouldn't work, my only concern is a mother bear, in which case you need more than .38 Special in my opinion. I recall an old story where some animal control or park ranger had to shoot one in like the '80's with his 6 shot .357 Mag, and only on shot 6 did the bear stop. Honestly the S&W Governor I have would be a good choice if that were an option, .410 shot shells and hard cast .45 Colt would do very well for all your needs.

    I wonder how a 327 would fare against black bear sized game. Some will say the 357 Mag is light for bear, but I have to wonder about those 130 grain 32 caliber pills that Buffalo Bore is loading. Could they tumble and not work like you showed here?

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 роки тому

      They probably would tumble. It's hard to say what they best option would be, but I would say probably as powerful as possible with minimal expansion. Buffalo Bore makes a mid range power 100 gr XTP that would probably work. The thing I hear about black bears is that they don't like being shot, it's rare you have to stop one. If it were me personally, although maybe some might say not ideal, I would use the Gold Dot 100 gr as it's the only one I know of exceeding 400 FPE in a snub.

      They are mechanically bonded. Different companies have different definitions, like Gold Dot is bonded by electroplating type process, HST is bonded by a cannelure into the bullet itself. If they were not bonded, there would not be a cannelure on their semi auto bullets. I have never had an HST bullet lose it's jacket.

      @@GunSam I've been waiting to see 357 sig. I came close to buying an m&p ez in 30 super carry, but I opted for a 3 inch revolver instead. It's the 856 defender and fortunately I haven't had none of the accuracy issues you had when you reviewed the gun. I will say it does favor the lighter rounds though, over the heavier ones. I was shooting golden sabers and critical defense and I was hitting 20oz water bottles placed atop a fence post at 15 yards. I have the vz griped, two toned version. I love the gun, but I find myself not wanting to carry it, because I love the finish, so it's primarily a back up to my regular 856. You were very right about 3 inch barrels being the sweet spot. Getting a quick acquisition from concealment has been pretty smooth. I'm sold on taurus guns at this point, if they came out with a g2c in 30 super carry, I may have to bite the bullet and pick up that wallet. The gun Im leaning to now though, is a mini 30, I really do need a carbine rifle.

    The .327 will be more flexible than 9mm as revolvers will fire anything but with automatics once you start fiddling around you'll probably get jams.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I mean 9mm is the most reliable of semi auto calibers, but still susceptible to jams. Like, with my DB9 it jams on anything HP, my G2C is relatively reliable, but every 50 shots or so it jams on a HP. My big 9mm's never jam. But that's the key, big guns, both are great, small guns, the revolver wins hands down for reliability.
