*FAQs* *How did you get the replay to work?* There's no replay functionality (that I'm aware of) in MSFS2020 at the moment, but it might become available in the future. So I rebuilt the recording/replay software which I had developed for X-Plane to work with the new MS Flight Simulator. This took a few long nights and is far from complete. You will notice some stutters and odd behaviors at times. This was only meant as a proof of concept, so I will improve it over time. *Will you release the recording/replay plugin?* You can find more information and a link to the initial alpha release here ua-cam.com/video/yjAz1RRzy9E/v-deo.html *How does the overlay work?* I've developed a custom overlay for OBS that I can add to the recording to show some info about the flight. The overlay's JavaScript reads the data frame by frame and updates the map and data accordingly. This was my first attempt, so it has a few quirks still and you might notice that is out of sync at times. I might release this as a standalone plugin for MSFS 2020 in the future, but I do believe there are similar plugins already out there. *Where do I find the A380 and how did you get it to work in MSFS2020?* At the moment there's no A380 for MSFS2020. This is a port of the Project Airbus A380 for FSX. It took a lot of work; scaling the textures to 4k and adding some finer details, adding custom wing, beacon and strobe lights, etc. It's not "flyable" though as I'm unable to convert the panel and since there's no proper 3D panel in the first place. I only use it for replay. Since converting models is sort of a grey area at the moment, I'm also not able to share the model. *What sceneries did you use?* The default scenery for Tokyo Narita is really not up to par...which was quite disappointing, considering that Asobo had just released a world update for Japan. This is a custom port of Zero Dollar Payware's Narita scenery for X-Plane 11. To import the models into MSFS2020 I developed an import plugin for Blender (based on David C. Prue's original plugin), revised them in Blender and used the Blender2MSFS toolkit to export the models in a FS2020 compatible format. You can find both tools here, github.com/FSWindowSeat/BlenderImportXPObj www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/resources/blender2msfs-toolkit.256/ *Is that custom AI traffic?* Unfortunately, the MSFS2020 SDK doesn't support the entire set of methods of the SimConnect API at this point. One of the main features that is missing, is the ability to spawn and move custom objects. I hope this will come with a future release of the SDK and would eventually allow me to add custom, dynamic traffic. At the moment, the models in the video are just static objects converted over from X-Plane 11 libraries. *With FS2020 finally out, X-Plane 11 will cease to exist!* I will continue to work on X-Plane, but, yes, it is hard to argue against the far superior graphics of MSFS2020. However, X-Plane 11 has a far wider target market than just us simmers, such as plane development, professional sims, Linux, Mac etc. I'd suggest to listen to Threshold's amazing podcast/interview with Austin Meyer, the creator of X-Plane, ua-cam.com/video/gKyPjJVwboA/v-deo.html
You can even catch a glimpse of Tokyo Disney Resort just under engine 3 at 28:13 > 28:15 These long haul videos of wing views are a delight! I watched this one like a passenger, stuck to the window for take-off and climb and then slept, only rocked by the sound of AC and engines till approach and landing! Maybe a bit late for a Narita take-off. For years (maybe still nowadays) the last flight to be authorized to take-off from NRT was the Air France one to CDG. The last to undock, a 45 minutes wait on the taxiway then take-off at the last minute before the dreaded NRT curfew / night runway closure! As a passenger I never had the chance to experience a Westbound SID, only the Northbound one as it was for the polar / siberian route to Paris. So happy to finally watch what you can see flying this Westbound departure ! Thank you very much! Your XPlane to MSFS port of NRT looks great, it felt like a pro scenery, very detailed from a distance. Sublime work !
And for a very scenic view (right wing) : runway 13 approach at LGA coming from the South (DCA or MCO for exemple), the path runs along Manhattan on the Hudson and turns right a little above Central Park and direct to runway 13. One of the most beautiful approaches I ever saw.
@@FSWindowSeat Tokyo Disney Sea (the second park of the resort) is absolutely gorgeous and I spent half a day there as it is a "must see" visit in Tokyo (the classic Disneyland Park in Tokyo doesn't deserve the attention but Disney Sea surely does!). Only half a day because my stay in Tokyo was short but it was well worth it. When you come from Europe, Narita approaches and departures are not the least bit interesting, you come/go from/to the North and as NRT is so far from the city you can only see the countryside by night. Which is really dull. Check my above comment, the LGA runway 13 approach from the South on the right side of the plane is fabulous. Again, kudos for your work, it's great and gives us a much needed sense of travel and flight in these troubled times. A huge thank you !
This is amazing having the announcements, the whole aircraft ambience to make you feel like your on the plane is superb! You should make more videos with it. 👍🏻
Hi - everyone; apologies for uploading yet another version of this video, but as soon as I had uploaded it, MS released an update that improved the sim's night lighting by quite a bit. So I took a look at the changes and one thing led to another and I ended up redoing the whole thing. I've also removed the window frame, which I didn't like in the end and I re-developed the data overlay from the ground up. It's running independently now and in synch. There are still some teething issues with it, however, such as the speed showing arbitrary values at times. Cheers
Thanks man! Oh btw the wing flex always seems a little problematic when running your replay software on this sim. Are u planning on fixing it? How is the development going in general?
It's three fold. I use custom MSFS sounds, added a custom sound engine to my replay software to add cabin ambience sounds and I add the announcements in post production. Search for the CourierPochi channel. He makes frequent cabin recordings and posted a recording of this particular flight around 3 years ago. If you want to use it for your own production, however, I'd suggest to reach out to him and to ask him for his blessing.
I has the pleasure of experiencing this flight from Narita and its very relaxing. The passengers were all asleep hardly anyone moving and it was queit. Although it is a long flight it was enjoyable. You also fly over places such as Inner Mongolia
10:24:30 how did you make that landing noise? And all that engine sounds that are too realistic and how could you even fly when your camera is cut to window area
28:05 - It's very weird... The Tokyo Sky Tree is not showing... It should be, because i did this flight 3 times and they the Sky tree is visible even at night... Weird...
@@FSWindowSeat Probably... It's probably that, but this flight made me remember my vacations in Japan... And it's very similar to the real flight that i took...
Beautiful long haul. I have one question. Did you improve the fuel capacity because I have the same Abad studios A380 and it days that it can only fly for seven hours? And my FMC is not working as well. It’s black all the time…
I'm building a flight sim and eventually I'm gonna do some longer flights like this, what goes into your planning and do you stay up with it or go to bed and let it run?
I look for real world routes, flightsfrom.com and flightaware.com are great source for those. When it comes to the flight itself, I go to sleep and hope for the best :-)
@@FSWindowSeat right on man, thats the best way to do it. I'm running xplane 11 on mine and I love your videos, they're good for sleeping too. Its like I'm on a flight in my bedroom. Your landings and take offs are pitch perfect and I like how you include the cabin crew voices too. I'll def be looking into those real world routes. Only thing I'm trying to figure out now is how to sink them with the game so I can do these.
My thoughts during the phases of flight: 1. Takeoff: You almost used up the whole runway, is the thrust setting low or is the thrust for this aircraft weak in the sim? I don't remember an A380 needing that much runway to lift off the ground. 2. Cruise: Did you encounter a really strong West Bound tailwind? When I fly West, I usually face a headwind and the sky ends up getting brighter as the flight progress. 3. Landing: If you have flown on the A380, does a landing feel harder than it actually is? Cause when I flew on an A380, when it touched the ground, I heard a loud bang and then I realised that landing was actually soft and not as hard as I thought.
i can at least answer #1 for you. that mostly due to the aircraft not being super accurate to what a real a380 is. no one has made an accurate a380 yet and that model is a port from FSX so there will be discrepancies in the flight characteristics, possibly based entirely off another aircraft like the default 748
Wow the length of the video is crazy.. Do you actually sit there for the full 10 hours or just let it run in the background? I hope you do more and maybe one from anywhere to Tokyo. Miss being on JAL..
This is a custom mod of a FSX model and I don't have the author's permission to share it I'm afraid. It's also not fully functional, to be honest. I had to do the flight in the 747 and could use the A380 model for replay only, as there's no working cockpit for the Airbus at the moment. I'm looking forward to a native model for MSFS
