    thank you for your review. Just got the mint condition Zf 85mm for very attractive price. Zeiss manual lens in F-mount sell like garbage in today when everyone talk about mirrorless, but they are truely gems.

    I purchased several Zeiss lenses for my 36 Mp full frame Pentax K1 camera (Distagon 2.8/25, Distagon 2/28, Distagon 2/35 and Planar 1.4/85) and, despite the challenging manual focus, I have to admit that they are all excellent lenses regardless the price (and I bought them for between 400€ to 600€ each). Are there sharper lenses out there? Possibly, but you won't get any other lens in the market neither with this build quality nor with this overall image characteristics (color rendition + micro-contrast + bokeh = 3D like look). And these qualities plus the joy of use (all metal / full precision / zoom & aperture rings accuracy and resistance) make my Zeiss lenses an absolute no brainer that will last forever, a truly lifetime. I don't need and don't want others. And yes, for portraits, sharpness not only isn't that important, but morover, they look even better with a slight touch of softness to them while keeping a good amount of bokeh. Yet I find this lens sharp enough even at 1.4 (more softness would be better for portraits).

    Thank you very much for the review. I have the Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 25mm (manual focus) which is what I have been using for landscape photography and is so beautiful to use. Your review has convinced me to go ahead and commit to purchasing this lens.

      Matthew White i will look for a wide angle lens. Can you recommend one???

    • @sonvfave
      @sonvfave 6 років тому

      Blue Sky Photography lots of 28 but that barely wide if aps-c
      Like zeiss contax distagon 28 2.8
      Voigtlander 28 f2
      Ultra wide use a 12 mm and 15 mm voigtlander super hellier
      Slow but tiny for super iq there so many 18/20/21
      Again a tiny lens voitlander 31 f4
      Zeiss makes 18/20/21 mm for many mounts
      E mount nikon canon etc so adaptable to Fugi
      I did use a very sharpe samyang 12 mm aps-c
      Way sharper than modern Zeiss Tuite 12
      If nikon there is a G nikon 20 1.8 highly reviewed
      For old school zeiss rendering ie rich colors saturation contrast try older Zeiss designs or voigtlander
      Hope that helps
      Indoor vs outdoor
      Need fast
      Etc
      Hard to guess what u want

    Love your review, i am using pentax k70 with carl zeiss planar 85mm 1.4 , i bought brand new for £629 - i wish i spent £460 for the 35mm f2 distagon. both sold by a buyer on ebay. i wonder why didnt u stick with 56mm 1.2

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  5 років тому

      The only reason I did not get the 56 mm it was that I wanted to be able to use the lens on Nikon as well as on FujiFilm or any mirrorless system.
      But in my opinion the 56mm is the same good.

    why to compare this lens to a longer lens Samyang??

  • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
    @ScottWilliamsPhotography 6 років тому

    Hi Attila. Glad you like the new lens. From what I can see the rendering does look nice.
    I'm not sure I would splash that amount of cash for one though. But I understand that if you want that certain look, then you have to pay. I'm currently looking into a portrait lens for my a6000. I think I will have to try and get a look at the Samyang 85mm 1.4 as it looks to be a lot of lens for very little money.
    Cheers for the video :)

      Hello Scott .
      yes it`s true it is a bit expensive , and I was thinking a lot about should I buy it or not. But at the ebd of the day I will build up a 3 lens setup for portraits and that`s it . These lenses are made to last a lifetime. I do like Samyang lenses and they are very good. I will try to find a 85mm to compare with this one . But if you are interested about this lens I found one just yesterday on adverts.ie ( that`s the Irish Ebay ) for 450 euro. I spent 900 euro for this lens and this is half price. The guy says that it is in very good condition. I wish I saw this earlier. But that`s life . The only difference is that this lens is the ZF version which doesn`t have electronic contacts , but optically is the same.

      I'm sill in the looking around stage. I'm also looking at the SEL85F18 as I can get it for around £400 from eglobal. Not as fast but a bit more versatile what with the AF etc. I really need to get to have a play with a few lenses before I make my choice.
      I've been looking at reviews of the samyang. Some say it is sharp at the center wide open and some say it i crap. I think I need to find a way to have a play with them myself. It is super cheap though.

    Great video. What do you think about Zeiss Touit lens?

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  6 років тому +1

      George Yang I never tried the touit lenses because they are for Sony e mount and Fujifilm X mount. Because I wanted a lens which I can use on multiple systems I choose the Planar line-up. The Milvus line-up is a bit better but it is also more expensive. The touit lenses are probably great but using full frame lenses is advantageous in many ways. The example I can use speed booster. Zeiss lenses are manual focus anyway, so why not use than faster lenses with more advantages? But that's only my opinion.

    • @georgeyang3783
      @georgeyang3783 6 років тому

      Thanks Attila! I understand your point. However as far as I know the touit lenses are AF lenses and fully compatible with Fuji Camera.

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  6 років тому

      George Yang yes it's true. I didn't know that. I thought that Zeiss makes auto focus lenses only for Sony. But at the end of the day the issue is still there that I want to use with multiple systems. But if you are Fuji only user definitely it worth a look.

    How does this lens compare to the Voigtlander 58mm 1.4?

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  6 років тому

      Freeman Burgess I didn't compare the two, but I plan to buy that lens anyway. So we'll see I suppose. I will let you know when I did the comparison.

      The 58mm Voigtlander has a different color pallete but never the less it is a great allarround lens, good for porteture, street photography

    Have you come across much of a problem with focus shift please?

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  5 років тому

      No not at all. I did try on multiple cameras also different brands but I never noticed any. What I noticed was that the focusing accuracy was different on a Nikon. It was not as good as on the FujiFilm cameras. I suppose because of the focus peaking.

    yeah...duh! Of course the Fuji lenses on the Fuji camera are going to be sharper then a full frame Zeiss lens adapted. What a really silly thing to say.

    • @bijosn
      @bijosn 2 роки тому

      not really...there are some adapted lenses from zeiss and other brands that will be sharper than fuji lenses...you are clueless
