I also loved watching the Barbie ballet movies!! Barbie in the Nutcracker, Barbie in the Pink Shoes, Barbie and the 12 Dancing princesses, Barbie of Swan Lake...literally what I would watch as a child.
I hated Leap because when she was being “trained” and all the other girls were being trained they made it seem like your immediately en pointe and that all you have to do is straighten you legs, point your feet, and be rich and pretty.
I didn’t like it because dancing at the level the main character was when she entered the school takes years and years of training. The way that she just takes the antagonist’s spot in the class was completely unrealistic, and the only possible way that would happen in real life is if the antagonist was injured, or the teacher had some HEAVY bias.
The one she ranked at the end is so unrealistic! A girl walks in off the street and gets given a place at a prestigious dance school, immediately goes on pointe and wins a lead part after like a month of training!
@@Sky-ht6tv I could go on point barefoot from 5 years old with no practice or any balley classes and no i don't say what i could do is normal is not...and the point of the movie was to follow your dreams no matter your background, no matter the circumstances ...no how realistic it was ..... even an orphan, a poor person etc if they work hard their dream can come true...

Fun Little Fact: When I'm watching a non-dance movie and someone does any style of dance, I always watch their form to critique it. I feel bad afterwards though. 😂
@@maddypainter4486 I don't do ballroom dancing, I'm more of a ballet, lyrical, and jazz person but I know how triggering that feels watching them mess it up
I really liked the "Ballerina" movie as an animated film, but I wouldn't say it was the best as a dance movie. I LOVE all of the classic barbie movies. ❤
I personally really liked Tiny Pretty Things. Yeah it was kinda dramatized in some parts, but thats just how TV is some times. I liked the more dramatic story along with the dancing.
Yeah, it's almost the perfect combination of crime-drama and dance. And since I love both, I adored the combination ... Also, the dancing is pretty damn good for a TV series. And - as far as I could find out - the actors portraying dancers actually are trained dancers (also don't agree with @Artistic Pleb, I've seen way worse acting). Ranking this lower than Black Swan actually made me kindda mad. Black Swan is no less dramatic and yes, the dancing was good in Black Swan but that's because it was mainly done by professional Sarah Lane (who at that time was a principal at ABT) which the filmmakers tried to keep under the radar and instead pretended that Natalie Portman became such a great dancer for the movie. This - for me at least - really destroyed the movie because I trained for twenty years and I'm still just average. You don't train for a couple of months and then dance like that.
@@isabeldominici8034 omg really??? which episodes and what time in it? My dream is to dance at The School of American Ballet but i’m never gonna get in and i live in North Carolina
Why do I remember that Barbie ballerina movie being WAY more better animated? Maybe I was too little to understand what “good animations was, but oh lord that animation was so bad! 😬😂
I think it’s really cool that a boy who used to go to my ballet school (VBC) is in the documentary ‘en pointe’ in the third episode he is in a banana suit lol
For Black Swan the first clip you watched is also Swan Lake in some Swan Lake choreos there is a part when we see Odette in human and being transformed as a swan by the sorcerer
Yes, that's the introduction of Swan Lake, and some choreos use it. Burmeister did it for the first time in his version. Though, the Black Swan version does remind me especially of the 1960es Kirov ballet Swan Lake movie and its opening scene...But I think it's not was Tchaikovsky' did intend for it. It gives away the major mood of the coming staging and introduces the main themes and conflicts. That's the purpose of the overture.
I really love Black Swan because it is not about competition but a really psychologic movie about finding yourself, be yourself and be an artist. It speaks a lot about the contrast between the black and the white swan and I think the actors are amazing because they are not dancers, Natalie Portman learned ballet just for the movie and she's amazing ^^
I recommend Bunheads and Breaking Pointe. Two super cool ballet series. Breaking Pointe is a bit dramatic, although it is a reality show, but I still like it.
Hi, Mackenzie! I’m a new subscriber and I love your videos! You make them very interesting and I enjoy watching them. I am a ballet dancer too so I can relate to a lot of your videos. ❤️🩰
I was obsessed with Center Stage as a teenager, I think I saw it at least 4 times at the movies and I still have also the VHS tape (yeah I'm that old😁)
You need to do a part 2 with Dance Academy, Mao’s Last Dancer, and The Red Shoes! I love Black Swan because I love Horror in general, and it’s a really effective psychological horror
There is an old German series called „Anna“ about a young dancer growing up. It’s on Amazon prime, you should check this out, it’s really good! In Germany, the series (about 6 episodes) was broadcasted over Christmas holidays in 1988, and the next months literally thousands of girls wanted to start ballet. My ballet teacher had just started working at her dance school back then and said that they had to hire new teachers and built new studios, it was a crazy hype.
Omg thank youuuu I was actually in need for stuff to watch and I didnt know what would be good cuz its hard to know in this genre what is going to be really good or not so thanks love your channel :)
Have you seen High Strung Free Dance? There’s a good bit of drama but I really like the lead actress and I find the ending piece of the movie quite cool. Also the soundtrack is **chefs kiss**
Once in my carpool their were these two second graders who put this animated movies and these little girls began to do the swan ballet dance were you are all holding hands. I was shocked because what I have heard that dance is really hard, and I said something along the lines of “Wow they are so young and they are doing that dance that is so hard they are so talented” and they responded with “But it is the same with regular dancing all you do is hold hands” it annoys me so much because one of them is a dancer so I don’t understand why they think that dance is super easy
ok......but black swan was incredible. Was it entirely realistic? Fuck no. It was a psychological thriller. It's supposed to be batshit crazy. But from a filmmaking standpoint, black swan was a piece of art (in my opinion tho don't come for meeeee).
Some other ballet movie suggestions...The Turning Pointe, Dancers, White Nights, Ballerina...and my all time favorite Children of Theatre Street, just to name a few.

Great video but i don't really agree with your rating of Leap. Personally i found it really inspiring and well made, even tough it was not the worlds most accurate thing. To me the rivarly meant a desire to dance more than wantinng to be so much better then someone else. Just my opinion.❤❤
Yes, that is the Ethan Stiefel from Centerstage-that is how he looks now. Tiny Pretty Things is based on a YA book series, the actors are in their mid-to late twenties portraying teenagers. Many of them have gone on to distinctive dance/post dance-careers or as in the case of Amanda Schull, pursued an acting career. I have seen a few of the movies and the TV programs you mentioned, I will definitely have to revisit them. Remember, these films and TV programs are heightened entertainment and at times, informative.
