God I love this content. Shohei seems to always be on my fave episodes. His contributions tend to go deeper into the Japanese mindset. I hope I will be in a financial position to do this Patreon. Just love this channel's gay-life positivity 💖
Shiny gays is hilarious and I love that it’s fairly universal to understand… How do you say ‘thirsty’ in Japanese? I’m looking at you Andrew lol Fun and informative as usual 💕
@@hibiscusboy I am far from an expert and it might not exactly mean "thirsty" but you might be able to use かまちょ(kamacho) ? But it may mean something more like a needy-person 🤔 I'd try and confirm with someone with more knowledge 🙅♀
Every generation of gays has their own slang and language that they use to differentiate themselves from the straight world and keep the outside world at arm's length. But it doesn't always work though, many years ago I was heading home and this guy who knew who I was screamed "F*G" at me, and I was really surprised at how it really cut to the bone and hurt for a long time. My friends and I called each other that all the time and thought we were numb to that horrible word, but that incident proved that no matter how many times your friends call you that it still hurts when someone says it with an evil mean intent.
Just when I was wondering where’s the slang, you say here it comes. OK, let’s see where it goes. Releasing pause and back to the very handsome guest in grey (😍).
Glad I saved the link for this episode to revisit later and watch again. Always like watching your videos as I think that both of you are honest, informative and relatable. Your selections of Guests are also nice too. But your guest for this episode? WOW. I was really mesmerized. He impressed me a lot with his looks, mannerisms, humor, smile, laugh, intelligence, communication, smile, body, height, attire....just....wow!
Well, as a Japanese gay person lived outside Japan far too long, there are so many gay words I don't and didn't know about I saw today. But those old fashioned ones are still in my book and I still see some gay people in Japan use them and saw they were using them on UA-cam but I guess it all depends on the each person, age, the context...etc. I assume, however, I wouldn't understand many or most of new gay expressions among very young generations. The word "Okama" is definitely old but I think you can still use it among gay people in the context like pointing out in the other gay person in a light joking manner that he is truly "gay" but obviously it should be refrained for straight person to use it in front of gay person. "Hogeru" is I think when the person may or may not look necessarily effeminate but when they talk, they definitely has "Onee"(オネエ) expressions. And I have recently learned from "2nd street" channel. They are hogeteru when they talk. It was fun to watch how each one of cultural background will determine the deeper emotions or even hidden implications to get the point across to the other who mutually understands exactly what the person is talking about and foreigners may not 100% get it sometimes because I know Japanese people have their own unspoken expressions without saying it. It's very interesting, isn't it?
It pains me as a heterosexual man that no matter how hard I try, I'll never be permitted to take on the appellation of "shiny gay" for myself. Hope you're staying happy and healthy Tokyo BTM lads :3
I think that in every group there will be those words which if you say it inside the group, it's not a bad word. But if said from someone outside the group, it'll be offensive.
Yes exactly. Many years ago I was heading home and this guy who knew who I was screamed "F*G" at me, and I was really surprised at how it really cut to the bone and hurt for a long time. My friends and I called each other that all the time and thought we were numb to that horrible word, but that incident proved that no matter how many times your friends call you that it still hurts when someone says it with an evil mean intent.
lots of fun learning these words - i am going to learn more Japanese before my second visit to Tokyo next spring. really enjoyed seeing Shohei for the entire video ~
Great video! ❤ I love when you guys do japanese learning videos! 😍 They are always so interesting and motivating to continue learning... Also it makes me get closer to the language.. Like... I don't care what Genkiのメアリーさん did in her winter vacation, I care about the baseball scandal that gave gay people a slang word! 😂😍
OMG as a late-bloomer queer individual I still find queer lingo so impenetrable even as a native Japanese speaker🤪🤪🤪Not that I don't get the gist of all these words just from osmosis but the nitty-gritty details totally get over my radar🤗
6:50 question: since I do not know japanese but a few words like onanoko and onanohito (girl and woman - I hope I get it at least a bit right), does onakama have this "female" silible, or is it just something completely different?
Ah, I remember "okama" from the movie "Okoge" (which i would guess is also rude and old-fashioned). But it's a good movie. "Kocci no hito" reminds me a lot of "Worships at our church" (which is probably also old-fashioned here in the US).
The English word "member" is still widely used by Cantonese gays to refer to the community. I wonder if that's an influence from Japan. Mainland China has moved on to the word "contact list" (通訊錄). I can't think of a word like that in the US, perhaps it's because anonymity is not a concern any more culturally.
So very torn about the usage of the term 'Homo' because y'all are telling me not use it, but I very strongly believe in reclamation of language that can be used as derogatory against a group as being empowering for said group. Just as over here in Montreal, Canada amongst my friends we will gleefully greet each other with "hey f*gg*t!" but will cut a bitch if someone tries to use it against us. Homo falls into that same category. In Japan could we not use it amongst ourselves? Like 'ホモです。' I legit have a couple of crop tops that say 'ホモ' on them and wear them with pride. 😎🏳️🌈
I am sure the following were also on your list but possibly you didn't have time but I have also heard "kirakira gay キラキラ・ゲイ" replace "shiny gay" though it also refers to gays on a higher income doing stuff that could be seen as priviledged. Also 組合。I don't know if this is old fashion (it certainly aint new), but we've been using it for years now instead of お仲間. Finally the word ホモ in Japan is especially interesting as it is seen as particularly hurtful for a certain generation of Japanese who grew up in the 1980s and 90s when とんねるず's had their runing joke with 保毛尾田保毛男(ほもおだほもお)。However much much older Japanese (who are now in their 60s and 70s) still prefer the word homo to gay. So the word basically went from being okay to rude and then now more neutral as the younger generation no longer have that point of reference. My favorite tho is エビ専 (ebisen) which is used for people who only sleep with men for their bodies (because, like shrimp, you discard the head and only eat the body)
I am travelling to Tokyo by November I am loving your vídeos I learned so much and now I know where to go . Thanks for this lovely channel and I am so disappointed that Tokyo is a bottom city 😅😅
Your guest is handsome and this was interesting. I so wish I was good at languages. I really liked shinny gay i think that is perfect description. I hope it will be ok to say hello to you if we see you guys out when we are in Tokyo Sept 12-29
There have been several times in the past where (straight) friends and/or coworkers have embarrassed me by introducing me, referring to me, or 'labeling me' as GAY when in conversation with others. I find it very offensive. I am either a friend or a coworker (sometimes both). I have a name. My lifestyle choice is NOT tattooed on my forehead like a name tag. To get my point across; I calmly told a few of them (after-the-fact) that I felt insulted as I don't refer to them as "BREEDERS" in any conversation with others. One time a (clueless) friend was pushing 'the label' so much that you could see the other people were becoming extremely uncomfortable, glancing at me with apologetic looks. I finally broke up my "friend's in depth dicussion" by laughing very loudly and saying "Oh you HETERO People are just so funny!" Made the others laugh and my dimwitted friend dropped his "what a great GAY Friend I have here" speech. On track: Some of the "tems" that you reviewed and described were "cute" to me. Not like the Drag, Leather, Daddy, Club, Flamer, Screamer, Drama and other labels I often hear. Even a few of the "outdated" terms was acceptable to me. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for having me miss you boys!!!!
Thanks for coming on
Daddy Shohei !
I cannot wrap my mind around the ‘Baseball Player Scandal to Gay Slang’ Pipeline 😂
Things we never knew we needed ❤
Finally learning the REAL japanese lol 😂

It’s kind of a nice way to say circuit queens…And Andrew is definitely DTF 😂😂😂
+1 to everything you said! AND I too am curious how you would say "thirsty" (in the salacious way) in Japanese! Anyone!?
@@hibiscusboy I am far from an expert and it might not exactly mean "thirsty" but you might be able to use かまちょ(kamacho) ? But it may mean something more like a needy-person 🤔 I'd try and confirm with someone with more knowledge 🙅♀
I went down a rabbit hole with けつあな確定 and even though I'm not 100% fluent I still had some good laughs. Thank you for a look into gay slang ☺
Meng and Andrew are my Homodachi but Sensei can be my Homodachi too, if he wants 🌝
Shohei Sensei looking like straight up Detective Conan.

紹介してるワードけっこうネガティブに感じる当事者、日本にはまだまだいると思いますよ〜。
I enjoyed this episode so much! I hope there is round 2 (another video) with more slang!!
Finally getting time to watch this. I love the one's where I can take a few notes and learn a few words!
“I think it’s about segregation.”
Meng didn’t just spill the tea, he drenched the tablecloth.
I really loved the video! It was truly an educational experience with both of you cuties and SENSEI.

can't stop looking at Shohei grey pants. they are too distracting haha *^_^*

Haha Shiny gay is a vibe. You can be a shiny gay too ✨🫶
Loved the video ❤️great to aee how words change over time and what used to be OK is not and others reclaimed. 🎉

Your English translations are RIGHT on point. 🙂 "Heteroflexible" is PERFECT for "Kuware Nonke".
Shohei is so freaking hot and cute 😍😍😍
This was great video learn allot new slang today and as usual keep up the good work.
Homodachi is amazing I’m with Andrew let’s make it a thing!
Thanks for teaching us about Japanese slang.
I have heard VERY straight and homophobic people in their 50s use "そっちの人” so I definitely agree that straight people know what it means!!
Wait but I saw the disclaimer but before I saw it immediately thought “isn’t he a shiny gay?😅”
Great video boys! Thank you!
Shohei sensei wa utsukushi desu !
I enjoy these types of informative and entertaining vlogs.
I would love to be a Shiny Gay! LOL! Thank you for the video! It was fun.

"Ryoukangata" reminds me of the outdated term in the US "Clone" or "Castro Clone"

Love your show
Ketsuana Kakutei is when you're out to dinner with friends but you're only having broth water...
Sensei is handsome.
The only relevant Japanese words I know are like ノンケ、受け、攻め😅
Thank you
SHOHEI IS SOOOOO HOTTT!!!!!!! Love to see him back on the channel.
13:05 Truly iconic behaviour. #TeHoge
Not you trying to dimmer Shogei's shine by throwing shade 😭😭💀💀(that was Ming?)
"Kocchi no hito" = one of us?
I miss using the word ‘Heteroflexible’. It should be used more.
9:04 If there are shiny gays, where are the magpies?
P.S. I have the potential to be a shiny gay.
I learned Okama from Bon-Chan in One Piece.
In french as well, and probably other languages, I think the word homo doesn't sound as insulting like in English.
Wait, what? Meng was respectful of a hot man’s boundaries? Scandalous (Jk)
15:51 Lmao not the stylistic quote
I've always thought they put 会員制 so straight people don't just wander in (especially for cruising spots, etc.).
Kuware Nonke. Can that mean straight curious?
I am remembering these slang words because of althe talisman inside Shohei’s bulge
9:54 Hot on the heels of ‘Vers lives matter’
This video is so quiet. I live in a western culture, i need volume.
Shoheiiiiii🥹🥹🥹
I'm a big onee cuz I'm hogeruing all the time XD
Or you both should join the show
Ok, so "NSA" isn't something I've seen. I'm pretty sure it's fuck buddies or friends with benefits (fwb). Or "we're just casual"
I thought okama was a word for drag queens and transgenders
(based on one piece characters)
なんとなく見てて思ったんだけどオカマは本人達も言ってるからいいのかと思ってた
褒め言葉なのかと
Andrew would be 5 times hotter in shoheis style imo 😮
We should totally ask shohei to style him
@@TokyoBTM oh yeeees 😍
5:18 It was glorified across the world.
I missed this kind of lingo videos :) I'm taking notes...📔😁
What fun! Cheers Guys
