Since 6 months now I have almost the same Legacy H6 (different color, there's a navigation) and I'm in pure love with this car! I love driving it ...actually all the time and like.. everywhere, but winter, winter has never been such a huge fun!
here’s some advice: when you have it in manual mode and floor it from 1st gear don’t upshift it will do on its own at 7160rpm but when u upshift it will go up an extra gear like what happened to you from 1st to 3rd it’s a feature that comes with subaru performance transmission (Sportshift)
@@jexyjaddy2248 I'm well aware of this. I parted ways with the car some 4-5 years ago. 😁 Would love to have a manual one if I were to buy one of these again
@@JTmoto Amazing cars, I've had loads including a CL55AMG with 500+ bhp but this Subaru is just the best of the lot, have had it moving onto 7 years now, I need to give it a rest and get another car but I only have space for 2 cars in my driveway and the missus needs a space so my hands are tied
Of course I don't have much experience in drifting, but the transmission of this car also plays a role here. I have a mechanic, it is more rear-wheel drive. That is why I twist the steering wheel and steer in the direction of the skid, not in the direction of travel.
@@JTmoto The working principle is the same as in the 4-eat. All-wheel drive is not permanent, although it has the advantage of rear, but it is switchable. In contrast to the mechanics, there is always all-wheel drive and always predominantly rear-wheel drive. Therefore you at drift and you have a steering wheel in the direction of movement, and not as at the rear-wheel drive, have to twist at once in the other side.
I love watching old clips like this too, of previous cars. You had a hitch on it hey, ever tow anything? When I had my first car (2007 Impreza Wagon), I wanted to throw a hitch on, tow a small trailer with my quad on it. Apparently the N/A 2.5L can pull 2000lbs... P.S. Backroad driving in the snow is SO MUCH FUN
I think we did most of our moving houses with the legacy and a trailer combo, its a good hauler lol. And tell me about it, b-roads are so much fun, when there's not much traffic if any :D
You wouldnt regret, its a masterpiece lol. My brother just bought a turd gen H6, (or a 2nd Gen outback if you will) will be doing a video on that aswell!
That H6 sounds amazing. How many gears does the auto have? Because I am looking at some 2004-2005 models and I saw that they come with 4 speed autos, but also there is a 5 speed one. Also, why is there so much snow on the roads, but none on the sides? :D
Thanks! The video hardly does it justice. This is a 5-speed 5eat, and that's what i would opt to get, or then the 6 speed manual. The clips were at the beginning of winter, and i believe the road was colder maybe? So it froze first. Not sure lol 😂
Get the manual if you can. I got one and it is awesome. They used the same 6 speed manual that came in the STI so it is rated for over 300hp but relatively under stressed with this engine.
This is Fantastic! the car sounds pure, well done with the setup. A few questions if you don't mind Did you get some sort of power increase and did you do a flash to it? I've had a forester SG XT, had to sell it but regretting it and thinking of another XT or an h6 outback. i haven't driven an h6 yet, which would you go for? :)
Thanks, the car felt great. That's gonna be a hard choice, but i'd pick the outback every time. The ez30r is such a well done all-round engine, and you'll get equal if not more power out of it with bolt-ons, should you want to do that. I miss this car a lot, and i probably would've kept it forever if it had a manual trans.
And No, the car was stock ecu-wise, just a E85 piggyback. I was planning on doing headers and cats and going for a tune, which would yield a 30-40hp gain and even more driveability (already very linear and good midrange to high revs power)
You must be a rally driver in your spare time, some great car control right there. Been looking for an upgrade to my 2000 Camry...this might fit the bill. I always thought Subaru had a 50:50 split being symmetrical all wheel drive, is there a way to modify it to be otherwise?
This one is 45/55 bias with some sort of computer assisted distribution. All manuals are 50/50 split, but Sti models have dccd which allows them to control the torque distribution via a knob in the center console. Personally I liked this rear biased split a lot.
@@tuned_cod I actually don't know if they still make these. I tried looking them up a while ago and had a hard time finding anything. Back when I still had this car (over 4 years ago) they were almost the first thing to pop up.
that is some mighty quick driving for public roads on snow...you're either brave or foolish...lol. If you did a six speed swap from an STI you could adjustable center diff and dial in the amount of torque vectoring you wanted to the front. Not a cheap mod but if the car is a long term keeper might be worth the trouble.
It's hardly past the limit, you really need decent tires and a set of hands. The car should've been a keeper, but I traded it in a few years ago. I probably wouldn't have done the swap, because it would've cost a fortune. The 45/55 rear biased split with VTD was pretty nice on its own. If I were to buy one now, I'm not sure if I'd pick a manual tbh, I used to think I would.
@@lightsinthenightssky7373 it did have some (a lot lol) drone, but it was on a pretty narrow rpm range. I just took it as a trade off for sounding good 😂
Rear sway bar, then some springs and struts or coilovers, Even a set of jdm bilsteins with tb sti Pink springs would be amazing i think, then delete the snorkus and do a full exhaust headers-back, and a tune. I'd start with the suspension bits, maybe swap better brake pads in too, then work my way up the intake/exhaust side and get it tuned.
@@WuHendrix possibly custom intake or aem might have one. For exhaust i'd pick what you can find (magnaflow, borla) etc. And raptor headers - then have an exhaust Shop weld in smaller high flow cats instead of the stock ones. With a tune you'll be close to 285 crank hp. Raptor also makes a Bolt on supercharger for these.
Nope, stock tune. It didn't really need one at that point, i was going to get headers & cats done and would've had it tuned then, but the headers never had stock. Thanks! ✌️ Edit: i had a piggyback flexfuel kit for the E85, if that's what you're after
Which outback came with paddle shifters? I've looked all over forums trying to figure it out and no luck, I know the 07-09 Legacy GT's came with them but can never find outbacks.
Mine is on almost 140k miles and you need to open the hood to hear it on idle, they need good quality oil changes to be carried out per the book - I think these are good for 300/400k miles or more once looked after
Thanks! What about this scenario then - let's say I'm cruising in D and want to downshift for some engine braking (no brakes, just one gear down). So I pull the paddle, still in D, and it goes down one gear. When should I expect for it to automatically go one gear up again, as it initially was? (i.e. after a couple seconds, or maybe it's smarter than that)
@@PerfectRumble i'd say in ~5 seconds if you dont do additional stuff. Its all programmable though, if i recall correctly. Also rev matches for you and so on, for an auto i really liked it 😂
Interesting stuff. I've seen a couple SG Foresters on the internet that were upgraded with paddle shifters (I think the paddles were taken from a JDM SH version, but I might be wrong). But the guys who did the mod wrote that the paddles are only working when the gear lever is in "sport shift" mode, i.e. manual shifting mode, and they don't work in D mode. So with this context, Legacy paddle shifters are more advanced and more practical than Forester ones. Anyway, considering the time, effort and money involved, 6MT swap from a STI SG Forester probably makes more sense and brings more fun :D
