Thank you for looking at the fashion from a different viewpoint.

Can we make this an annual thing? I love looking at these looks with an actual critical eye and not gut reactions that everyone else gives. It makes me really think about the quality of what people are wearing!!! Love it!
I really liked this ranking a lot. Fashion can be so abstract but craftsmanship is concrete. When people wear "custom" looks it doesn't always mean well-made or detailed. Most of them are quite literally t-shirt dresses. Can you imagine if someone walked in with a fully crochet gown or suit that looks like tweed but looks Chanel? That would have been a winner. Not a lot of imagination this year...

Love your sewing videos but this is also so entertaining to watch. Please do more videos analysing red carpets etc like this it’s nice to see people critiquing/discussing the construction for once 🥹
Shocked the dua lipa bride look didn’t make it to delusions of diy. With all the great knowledge being shared online about how to make good corsets/bones bodices, my first thought was “I could make that if I tried hard enough”
I think the difference is it could be a simple enough dress to make but what makes it so special is how well it fits which another challenge altogether I suppose! And also it doesn’t look diy in the « lets just thrift flip this real quick and add accessories » kind of way, if any « home sewist » made a dress this well most people wouldn’t think that they made them themselves because it looks truly well made and elegant! diy isn’t necessarily badly connoted either but that’s how I interpreted this category like any beginner sewist could patch things together quickly to make the final look. Don’t think the dua lipa would fit that category
I have seen diy you tubers though that make dresses that look just as good imo. I just personally feel the dress is way too over hyped. But that's just me.
It's an iconic dress from the '90s. Imo, it was styled better on the runway. The ginormous necklace didn't work with it, and Dua's hair needed to be swept up or something other than just hanging there. The bodice actually has more detail than it appears to have. It's hard to see on camera.
Please continue these ranking videos. You explained why you made the choices for your ratings. I liked how you focused on the craftsmanship of the fashions. As you said, this is the Olympics for designers. This year's theme kept many just wearing items off the catwalk. But most celebrities kept to the theme this time round. Looking forward to seeing next year's gala.
Love this approach to MET gala fashion review! I feel like people make fast judgements about the look from the get go but all these outfits took tons of hours, skill, and labor. And for it to get hate in 5 secs feels like a disservice to the talent behind the outfits. This such a great way to give the credit to the teams and talent who made the outfits rather than to the person wearing it.
I loved this video! Probably my favorite Met Gala review video I have seen so far. I like that you're focusing on the fabrics and the difficulty of crafting the garments. 10/10 love it, please do it again next year
Make this an annual ranking video!! There's actually purpose to the ranking, whether they were in theme or not. I just love it!! And literally EVERYTHING YOU said made sense. You rock girlie!!
im shocked that you didn't put kim's in diy, it's literally just her skims and a bunch of pearls thrown on 😭 the shawl probably involved some difficult sewing but that's it
Spot on review. I'm so glad I'm beading a jacket and dress by hand for my college graduation on May 21st so I finally understand how many thousands of hours it must have taken to bead these garments. Would love to see a part two if you want to show us other Met Gala looks
i think this year's theme was funny because in was in honor of Karl but Karl would not want so many of these people honoring him. He would be big mad over anyone with even the slightest amount of curve showing off their silhouette
I think anyone can obviously have their own opinions on the outfits, but I love how you really explained why you think what you think and why you rated them the way you did! this review also stands out from the others since this is focused on the sewing, and it was super interesting to watch too! love it!
Oh my gosh! I love this video so much! The commentary, the ranking, your outfit!!! We need this type of video for every SINGLE event out there! HAHA! XXX
i loved that you kept your personal opinions aside and didn’t rank everyone based on the person or even the overall look but the TECHNICAL side of it was so interesting! i’m not a sewer at all, but i love seeing your own experience and expertise with sewing being shown here while you talk about each outfit! there are a lot of different techniques i didn’t realize that goes into specific fabrics, materials, etc. it was an interesting and unique way to rank the met gala looks, i want to see more of this from you pls!!! love from the northwest US 💛
This was great. I loved how you made the explanations easy to understand. A lot of people don't understand how part of the Met Gala isn't just the fundraising but to highlight techniques (which in turn helps to keep those skills alive). This was a great overview that I think is accessible even for fashion newbies to understand. And agreed that that Siriano look is fairy godmother all the way.
I'm sorry, I could see how timid you were with ranking these, but truly I want THIS type of recap of the met every year. THIS is how I look at things and it was fun as a viewer to rank things before you did and see if we agreed (I do sew lol, I am not a professional by no means but I know my way around). Having a critical lense not focused on the person and rather truly on the art, it's amazing. I hope this gets enough views for you to justify doing it again next year because I understand as your job you do need to follow where the views are.
Love this idea! Even though it is hard to rank people, really you're ranking the labels and their LOE, which feels much less...mean (and biased) than just ranking based off of personal aesthetic. Also, dang, poor Quinta. Not only did that dress just look extremely uncomfortable, but she didn't really look happy in it. True RIP.
I am glad that you saw more into most of these outfits than I did . Most belonged into the category of thought about it the night before and than phoned there friends to see if there was something we could put together for the show.
This was the best Met Gala rating yet for me. I really liked the categories that you had. It made it fun to see if I chose the same rate as you did. Please do this again next year and create yourself a gala dress😁😍
I really enjoyed your ranking system, and agreed with most of your choices. Personally, I was glad to see a Met Gala where the attendees actually worked with the theme.
looking into the sewing efforts/techniques is SUCH a great idea. By far my favorite look at the met gala this year. I hope (if you do this again) you make a longer video with more details!
This was a really cool and satisfying way to make a tier list for the gala :) I liked seeing the focus being on the garment, rather than the celebrity or the taste level of the designer. Maybe this is up to my own research, but I think it would be interesting to hear some comments on the theme, what you expected to see, and who interpreted the theme faithfully or in an original way. We saw so much B&W, tweed, tulle, pearls, florals, it was up to the silhouette to make it interesting to me... Also interesting that two of the fellas in the top tier were wearing the same silhouette... who did it better! Thanks for this cool video! You pointed out many elements that gave me appreciation for outfits I wasn't really feeling.
The Karlie Kloss look (20:48) is actually a reference to Karl’s first show at Chanel in 1983. The dress being referenced was famous for Karl trying to embody Coco Chanel’s personal style. Miss Coco loved decking herself out in costume jewelry so Karl originally embroidered some onto the dress. Anna Wintour owns the original 1983 dress and it’s one of her favorites. Loewe (JW Anderson) used the technique of Tromp L’oeil to have that printed costume jewelry on it and then decked out Karlie in real gold. It was a great reference once you know the history behind it.
I honestly LOVED analyzing these outfits and judging based on construction and skill! I really do hope you do more of these. I had just searched to see if you did a video on previous years and was sad to see this was the first!
This was honestly soo intellectually stimulating since it wasn't just like a love it or leave it moment ~ love the thought and attention to detail that you gave each look ✨
You just gained a new SUBSCRIBER!!! This is the best fashion review I've ever watched on UA-cam -- no BS; just straightforward professional (even " 35:51 academic") critique of the garments. ❤❤❤
New subscriber! Absolutely love your point of view on the technical aspect! Diddy ATE it! He should be so proud of what his brand created! To me, that was the most unexpected and pleasant surprise of the entire night!
The best rating review ever! Love it from a sewing aspect. Hope we get to see the 2nd, 3rd and so forth Annual WithWendy Met Gala Review. And then….those dang gloves girl! To die for darling!!!
This was a really fun commentary. I came looking for the fashion since I haven't had time to watch anything met gala this year, and this was the perfect summary. Thank you!
I loved your outfit for this video, I appreciate the dress up. I loved your rating, I find it educational and practical. I agree with most of them. The MET Gala is such a moment in fashion that I always wait for this event and watch some people who really understand fashion and design to comment on the dresses, the outfits and so on. Thanks a lot for all the work you put into it.
This is so cool! I've already watched a few Met Gala reviews from fashion/style perspectives. This one is extra awesome for me because im a hobby sewist and I found myself making similar comments about about the sewing details of the outfits. Also, you featured some celebrities that didn't get shown in the videos I've seen. More of this please! On like every trending fashion related event!
It was so interesting to get your view on some outfits that I thought were sometimes a little boring but I didn't realize all the work that was behind it! I know it's not easy to rank other people's work but you did a great job, I'd love love love to see another video about sewing efforts!
Mindy Kaling deserved Fair Godmother because of the cat references- her bodice had cat ears and the ‘feathered lining’ you liked so much was the cat’s fur/tail - can’t believe you didn’t mention it !
@@sleepyghostgirl nope, Mindy Kaling featured @27:26 in the video - her cat reference was subtle but it was there and it was purrrrfect ❣️ Nothing subtle about Amala 🙄
Hope you could make a part 2 and cover the rest of the celebs, was looking forward to seeing you review Alia Bhatt's gown, which had 100,000 pearls sewn on!
I really enjoyed this video!! Your way of explaining the sewing process behind the garments was such a learning experience in the best way, fun but deepening of knowledge making the respect for the craftsmanship grow. These gala outfits or haute couture has been a bit of a mystery to me but I feel like you opened the door for me to understand it more and I really enjoyed that. Always love your vids, looking forward to find out about the pink dress in the back 🥰
This is such a great video! 😮 never thought about HOW GOUN WAS MADE on met gala!! It's crazyyyyyy... We need to appreciate the hands who made all of these things
A fursuit of the quality of Jared Letos, with the personalized touches of matching a real cat's markings could EASILY be tens of thousands of dollars. Those things are EXPENSIVE, and done wrong, they can really look bad. His looked amazing. The only thing that could have elevated it more would have been animatronics to make it talk when he did.
I only watched this video for the cat. 😻😹 True. Realistic fursuits are extremely difficult to make. I hv seen videos of them being made and they required amazing sense of details and observation. If slightly done wrong the whole look will come off. I am glad whoever made the suit was totally dedicated to capture the cutness of the cat.
Been patiently checking for new video - yeah!!! When I've finally regained inspo and picked up some fabric and a pattern, looking forward to this video 🤗
I was totally immersed in your very astute and technical opinions. You brought my appreciation of couture to a whole different level. However, now I will never be able to unsee these minute facets of flaw that you’ve so expertly pointed out, in any garment I see, be it RTW or haute couture. Sometimes I feel like the wearer’s posture can be the culprit, as in the case of Stephanie Hsu’s shoulders in Valentino. But, ultimately, kudos and Brava to you for this thoroughly enjoyed analysis! 👏🏽
Thanks for including Glenn Close and Gwendolyn Christie. the photogs and news outlets did not think them worthy of note. I would not have known they attended without your critique.
That’s so interesting to see it from this pov. I was actually wanting to see it from the actual design/sewing effort and you came through! Also maybe it’s bc I’m in my drag race rabbit hole but I’d love to see you ranking the design challenges where the queens sewed their own runway looks
I mean you were right, billie ellish is against making a whole new dress for met gala, so its always recycled/upcycled items. And the designer were using black item that she already has and just combining them. But i still love the looks tho!
I love this idea! So well said. It’s one thing to be on theme, it’s another thing to have a garment that looks like ALIENS made it. It’s other worldly, it was kissed by fairies and blessed by the animals of the forest. THIS is what we need to see from the MET GALA!!
If we're doing this again I need a bigger ranking board 😤 so many more looks I wanted to mention!! I apologize if I left any of your faves out but as you can see we were already reaching "this is why I have nearsightedness" level of image sizes 😮💨 I wanted to make this video because I feel the *volume* of human labour, skill, expertise that goes into well-made clothing feels a little overlooked in fashion reviews, and all I can ever wish for people who sew is that they may see the fruits of their labour.
It's hard to see on camera.
i actually liked the dress and it’s real chanel. i just think the styling was so boring and lazy
@@m20047 I’m obsessed w this dress. I’m just also delusional and think I could recreate it if I tried hard enough.
Please continue these ranking videos. You explained why you made the choices for your ratings. I liked how you focused on the craftsmanship of the fashions. As you said, this is the Olympics for designers. This year's theme kept many just wearing items off the catwalk. But most celebrities kept to the theme this time round. Looking forward to seeing next year's gala.
jenna ortega looks like she's about to sing heavy rotation and honestly, i love it
Truly the most rational met gala ranking. It was easy to agree or relate to your opinions so great job!
15:00 that voice edit was so disrespectful and so accurate 😭
I’m sorry I had to do it 😅😅
😭😭😭
I DIED LAUGHING
I fully understood and had to laugh too! 😂
HAHA! XXX
I have an design in my mind for the Met Gala, and when I saw some of them on the Met, I thought,,, “omg, my dress idea was on point”.
i loved that you kept your personal opinions aside and didn’t rank everyone based on the person or even the overall look but the TECHNICAL side of it was so interesting! i’m not a sewer at all, but i love seeing your own experience and expertise with sewing being shown here while you talk about each outfit! there are a lot of different techniques i didn’t realize that goes into specific fabrics, materials, etc. it was an interesting and unique way to rank the met gala looks, i want to see more of this from you pls!!! love from the northwest US 💛
This was great.
Doja meowing to every questions was a moment in history
Love this idea! Even though it is hard to rank people, really you're ranking the labels and their LOE, which feels much less...mean (and biased) than just ranking based off of personal aesthetic.
Also, dang, poor Quinta. Not only did that dress just look extremely uncomfortable, but she didn't really look happy in it. True RIP.
I loved the video 🖤🤍 Such an interesting way of approaching the theme. More, please!
Loved your very unique take (w/ closeup shots) of Met Gala couture outfits worn.
Please do this again next year and create yourself a gala dress😁😍
your gloves keep on catching my attention !!! they’re beautiful omg
I really enjoyed your ranking system, and agreed with most of your choices. Personally, I was glad to see a Met Gala where the attendees actually worked with the theme.
You have such a pleasing and gentle narration voice, very soothing!
looking into the sewing efforts/techniques is SUCH a great idea. By far my favorite look at the met gala this year. I hope (if you do this again) you make a longer video with more details!
I love this idea!!! Great take on all the met rankings
This is the best ranking and review I've ever seen for the Met Gala. I agreed with you for most of them.
You just gained a new SUBSCRIBER!!! This is the best fashion review I've ever watched on UA-cam -- no BS; just straightforward professional (even " 35:51 academic") critique of the garments. ❤❤❤
I really like the scale you came up with! It's unique and fun to watch! I'd love to see it make a comeback for future Met Galas/events!
This was very fun! It was nice to see a different perspective from the usual ‘it’s on theme/looks good/personal preference’
New subscriber! Absolutely love your point of view on the technical aspect!
Diddy ATE it! He should be so proud of what his brand created! To me, that was the most unexpected and pleasant surprise of the entire night!
You are so detailed with explaining every garment while looking effortlessly flawless 💖
The best rating review ever! Love it from a sewing aspect. Hope we get to see the 2nd, 3rd and so forth Annual WithWendy Met Gala Review. And then….those dang gloves girl! To die for darling!!!
Puff Daddy as Puff Daddy, and Doja Cat as Doja cat lololololol😭
This was a really fun commentary. I came looking for the fashion since I haven't had time to watch anything met gala this year, and this was the perfect summary. Thank you!
I loved your outfit for this video, I appreciate the dress up. I loved your rating, I find it educational and practical. I agree with most of them. The MET Gala is such a moment in fashion that I always wait for this event and watch some people who really understand fashion and design to comment on the dresses, the outfits and so on. Thanks a lot for all the work you put into it.
Thank you for looking at dresses that some others overlooked. Great job!
I love watching Met Gala reviews, but this was the video I didn't know I needed
I like the titles you gave to the tiers
I like how I'm learning new things from this
It was so interesting to get your view on some outfits that I thought were sometimes a little boring but I didn't realize all the work that was behind it! I know it's not easy to rank other people's work but you did a great job, I'd love love love to see another video about sewing efforts!
Fairy Godmother to you for that HP reference. Thank you *chef's kiss*
Mindy Kaling deserved Fair Godmother because of the cat references- her bodice had cat ears and the ‘feathered lining’ you liked so much was the cat’s fur/tail - can’t believe you didn’t mention it !
Yes it kitty cat!!
you mean doja cat 😭
@@sleepyghostgirl nope, Mindy Kaling featured @27:26 in the video - her cat reference was subtle but it was there and it was purrrrfect ❣️
Nothing subtle about Amala 🙄
Your voice is beautiful and soothing, listening to you talk give me goose bumps. Love it 🥰 ❤
Hope you could make a part 2 and cover the rest of the celebs, was looking forward to seeing you review Alia Bhatt's gown, which had 100,000 pearls sewn on!
You got me at: “it’s like the polyjuice potion was not strong enough” 😂
Great video, I have seen lots of people doing the same but you brought some looks I haven't seen and the analysis is fantastic!
You did a great job of staying objective and professional! Not judgemental at all. Super interesting 😊
I loved hearing yr take on the outfits since you are experienced with sewing details and I appreciated yr take on things ❤
We Stan a Tier Ranking video. Excited for all the commentary.
True. Realistic fursuits are extremely difficult to make. I hv seen videos of them being made and they required amazing sense of details and observation. If slightly done wrong the whole look will come off.
I am glad whoever made the suit was totally dedicated to capture the cutness of the cat.
wendyyy this is so fun, i love your categories!!!
" Delusions of DIY" Now I know how to describe it. Thank you!
"Watch.me.turn.this.trenchcoat.into.a.two.piece.dress" 😆😂🤣 Very enjoyable!
This is my favorite ranking of the met gala thank youuuuu
I love this ranking system and getting Wendy's thoughts! Delusions of DIY is 10/10 my favourite, hilarious and accurate
You don't know how gifted you are.
Wendy, I really appreciate you and this video!
I LOVE your voice. Idk what it is but i feel peaceful.
the fact that she says “please don’t come for me” during Jennie’s ranking says a lot about the fandom 🥱
the fake hype by blinks was so real lmao
I love this idea! So well said. It’s one thing to be on theme, it’s another thing to have a garment that looks like ALIENS made it. It’s other worldly, it was kissed by fairies and blessed by the animals of the forest. THIS is what we need to see from the MET GALA!!
YAAADSSSS WEDNTY GO AWF.... You are totally equipped ❤
This was fun! Loved your thoughts and insights into these gowns.
Your voice is amazing! I love the ranking specifications. Very interesting video 🧡
