fantastic video, thank you sir. I'm am new to the ham world and yet to buy my first radio. The Flex 3000 was recommended to me and I have found your video very helpful. Keep up the good work.
You just can't beat having a physical radio and all the knobs and buttons, SDR's are great but they're just not the same. It's a bit sad really to think that in the future it will all be sdr and a little box and monitor but I hope they at least make some traditional looking radios.
Well, the manufacturers know this and are offering boxes with knobs which are SDR's. The Icom IC-7610 acts and feels like a superhet IC-7600, but it's performance is much better due to it being a SDR. Heck, I'm sure you will have an option of playing the sound of a Ford V8 in your electric car in 5-10 years. We get used to things and the future keeps changing. Those who adapt- prosper.
Yes the 7600 is a nice radio alright, aren't the Electrafts are SDR too ? Funny you mention electric car, I drive a BMW i3 EV and I love it, don't miss engine noise at all. :-)
Great video! I haven't really done a guideline on recommended specs for a computer to run the program. I have an order Toughbook, Intel Core 2, 4 gb, Intel graphics. Looking for field use mostly.
Hi someone is offering me a 3000A with a great price. Is it still usable considering it's age and susceptibility to failure. I am scared about getting parts. Thanks 👍 73 vu3mes
It isn't susceptible to failure. I found it to be very robust. The issue is- can you get a decent PC with a firewire connector to run it? If so, it will be just fine.
@@Yavor54 Thanks Very much Sir for your reply, I am planning to use a FireWire to USB adapter as the laptop doesn't have a FireWire port. Does this work?
The attempt and effort to create an interface for the software making it look more and more like a panel of buttons on a real radio is the greatest proof that nothing is more exciting than operating the radio manually, that is, directly by buttons. real instead of one by one by mouse click. This way of controlling the radio through the computer, suppressing the real controls is very artificial. Operating a radio should provide pleasure not only to look and listen to, but also to feel when you move the buttons. I hope that someday the company will also manufacture this radio as a dedicated device with an integrated screen and buttons.
Sold! I have been thinking about one of these for a long time and I think your review just did it for me. Thanks!
