As much as I love this arrangement, it grates on me how the tone changes so drastically between the original and extended parts. The guitar and drums especially are so jarring at the intro and then leading to the outro.
Yeah, if I had to guess, I'd say this started off as a rough mix for the album, got shelved, then when it came time to put it on 12", Queen spliced in as much of the album version as they could to make it 'sound better'.
Because every Queen release since Mercury died has been spoiled by loony decisions, and they included standard versions of Bo Rhap and The Show Must Go On instead.
