Thanks again for the fast response to my other comments mike! This video is just awesome! Looking to replace my Boost141 rearwheel from a Trek X-caliber 9 (2022). Do you reckon the HWGXXX0001528S endcaps will work on a Shimano 12-speed?
I ride a trek roscoe, QR141. I have a set of wheels with DT hubs and QR caps and so far it has worked great. I also have a set of raceface wheels with the QR caps and apparently, the axle wasn't strong enough and broke right at the bearing. I pieced everything back together, tightened the QR as tightly as I could, and was able to ride the mile back to my car. The question going forward, since some hub axles don't seem to be strong enough what do you think about cutting a maxle down to 148mm, or just under and sliding that into the axle before installing the QR caps?
Hmm, That's odd, seems strange that they'd make their axles too weak. But yeah, it seems like you could put a maxle in to strenghten the whole thing.. Couldn't hurt trying!
Super helpful, thanks! The only thing I still feel unsure about is the 190/240/440 disc part. I have a Trek Xcal 8 2021, the disc brakes listed are Shimano RT56, 6-bolt, 160 mm and Shimano RT26, 6-bolt, 180 mm. Do I get the 190 version adapter? Or do these work for all disc sizes? So little information about this! Great job on making this vid!
Hmm I just used whatever came with the wheel and didn't look twice.. 😮😂 Sorry I can't be of more assistance on this! Happy to help with the rest though 🤩
It was pretty hard to find them at first. think I got them at like, chainreactioncycles. But they might have been subject to a change in the parts number maybe?
Thanks, that explains the rear, but for the front the are both called 15x110mm Boost, either thru-axle or QR. Is HWGXXX0002328S the part you need to adapt 110 thru to 110 QR for DT Swiss?
That is a whole other ball of wax I have yet to mold 😂 took some time to even figure out what torque caps were and if I needed them 😅 Sorry but I have no intel there!
Great Video Mike. The Hubs on my Roscoe are Junk and this video will come in handy when it's time to upgrade. Violence and bike maintenance go hand in hand right.
Yeah they’re probably the same on my x-caliber.. I was looking at nukeproof horizon v2 with 102 engagement points but cheaped out for now with dt swiss. Really nice upgrade though and proper sealed bearings, not that cup and cone BS😁 And yes, violence always helps 😂

Tone of thank's for this video Mike. Does your new wheel have microspline or old HG ?I like Shimano and want to move to 12 speed . Also what's the width of e1900 DT SWISS rim? Thank u.
No problem! Mine is hg but I think it can be either ordered with any of the two, or retrofitted. Mine are 30mm wide on the inside. But it comes in many widths for your specific needs 😊 but it seems that 30mm fits everything from 2,2-2,6 tyres 😁
Hi, thanks for pointing out. I got a cannondale mtb (135TA frame) in the workshop. The axle was bend so I ordered a new one for the DT350 hub which is the hub in the wheel. To short. The axle in the wheel needed to be 6 mm longer. A boost. Probably the BS who placed the wheel set did something similar. I’m curious what the size of the ta of the 141 axle is… and the size of the end caps you use for replacement. I want to get clear what is on my workbench. The Benelux DT distributor can’t help me out… probably pm or dm is better to sort this out. Thanks
Not really sure.. But if the frame is through-axle and not quick release, it would be either a 142mm or a boost 148. Quick release exists in 135mm and boost 141. You can take a 142mm non boost TA wheel and turn into a 135mm Quick release. Or you can take a boost 148 TA hub and turn into a Boost 141 quick release. I think you use the same endcaps for both. If your hub has an axle with threads on and a small hole going through it, and cup and cone bearings, it is either a 135mm or 141mm. The 135/141mm dictates the spacing between the chainstays, not the length of the axle. Hope this helps.. haha so confusing
@@Mikesbikerides hi, I know what the sizes mean. I measured the axle yesterday. It’s a boost 141. The frame and axle are both TA (of course). Your question kind of doesn’t make sense. 9x141 QR is not a standart mount. I’d say most common are 5x135QR (older bikes/ cheaper bikes), and 12x148 (newer bikes, often a bit more expensive). As I said your 9x141QR isn’t nowhere near standard dimensions, I don’t think you’re going to find fitting endcaps. The endcaps in the video turn a 12x148 TA into a 5x141 QR for example, or a 12x142 TA into a 5x135 QR. The endcaps basically are narrower at the end so that a 5mm QR can fit through both ends, and the weight is being held by the endcaps and not the QR axle itself. This „patent“ (I think you meant these endcaps?) works for all hubs that support interchangeable endcaps. A few examples would be Hope, and DT Swiss (he mentioned more at the end of the video).
Hmm, are you sure? On quora and in few other places I found information that 5x141 vs 9x141 makes no difference. Hello, thanks for explaining! Which end cap should i buy to fit a 12x148 dt swiss 370 hub into a boost 141 frame (x caliber 8 2021)? Thanks in advance :)
Gotcha, my model and some others have come with microspline. I was hoping yours had but I seen previous comments. I believe this will be another workaround that I and others will have to solve. They don't make qr end caps for microspline.

Attention, this adapter is not suitable for Microspline! I was lucky that I had previously ordered the wrong bushing that had the correct adapters on it.
Not sure you can do this conversion on shimano stuff. Here I am fitting a boost148 wheel into a frame that is narrower, boost141. If the HUB of your wheel is boost141 it's likely to be quickrelease and is built totally different with cup and cone bearings
I would like to buy the same wheel for my x Caliber and convert to 141 boost, but will this wheel be compatible with the Shimano hg50 10 speed cassette?
I have same problem, my frame is 141 boost qr and i want to install a dt swiss 148mm boost and i dont have the dt swiss cap, my quetsion isa, can i take the old cap from my old hub and install it to dt swiss 148mm? Will it fit?
Definitely gonna have to do a review of this shortly.. It has been performing great, has taken alot of beatings but not buckled once! It is a 24 engagement point hub so not the greatest sounding hub, but still alot better than the stock 15 EP..
All QR skewers are 5 mm in diameter I believe :). I don't know any bike that has 12mm axle and QR though? The axle is usually 10mm and hollow, so that the qr skewer can go through it.. There are bikes with 142mm and through axle though!
@@Mikesbikerides Thanks Mike. and yea you're right! I just had a confusion because I went to my LBS and they said that these were for 9mm thru axle. Ciao grazie mille per l'aiuto!! Potresti mandarmi il link dove li posso comprare, io ho mozzo dtswiss competion 12 velocità e lo devo fare diventare mozzo Quick release 5x 141 boost
Boost 141 had a spacing of 141mm. Non-boost 142 had a spacing of 142mm. But most 142 hubs have through-axle which will not fit the 9mm dropouts. and if you replace the endcaps on a 142 through-axle hub it will become a 135mm spacing. With 9mm axle. So confusing!
Nope! Or.. maybe by hacking the endcaps and sawing them off by a couple of mm.. But I wouldn't recommend it.. Or maybe there's an aftermarket kit for that?
Hi Mike! I have a question I hope you could help me with. I have a mtb that has this boost 141, I was told I could "drill out" my drop outs to 12mm and use a 142 wheel with a 12x142 axle. He said I would just need a 1mm spacer for rotor. Would this work?? I have advent x 10s cassette. I want to get rid of the qr altogether. Ty for your time to read my comment!!
I would advice against it. 1. You'll possibly ruin the frame 2. 142 is getting more rare, why upgrade to something that's soon obsolete? Getting a 148 wheel and using the endcap trick will work great on your qr frame until you get a new frame with 148. The one downside of the qr wheels is their bearings which are cup/cone. The qr mechanism itself is not particularly weak.

@@hargibi oh ok. Well it's very difficult to offer any kind of insight when I haven't seen the stuff 🙃 hope it works out 🤩
Did you ever get this to work? Thanks i also have a microspline driver
how would you go form a 10x141mm boost to a 12x148 boost.?
You wouldn't. Gotta have a 148 wheel and put on endcaps that make it 141
I would like to buy the same wheel for my x Caliber and convert to 141 boost, but will this wheel be compatible with the Shimano hg50 10 speed cassette?
I believe it will. It comes in hg and microspline so make sure to choose the correct spec. I have run two different cassettes and they're both 10spd
So these adapters work on all DT hubs ? Like the 350?
Not entirely sure, but I think they do..
Can shimano hubs be converted in this same way?
Not that I'm aware of! Dt, nukeproof, hope and some others can!
I have same problem, my frame is 141 boost qr and i want to install a dt swiss 148mm boost and i dont have the dt swiss cap, my quetsion isa, can i take the old cap from my old hub and install it to dt swiss 148mm? Will it fit?
No it will not fit. If the wheel is a 141boost it doesn't even have that type of cap 😊
@@Mikesbikerides thanks bro
I have 142 non boost syncros x20 with QR and i bought DTSwiss M1900 with 148 boost. Can I use the same adapters to fit my bike?
Boost 148 with adapters will make it a boost 141. But 1mm is not much and might work. Can't promise a good fit though
@@Mikesbikerides I will try and let you know how it runs.
@@mihkelm.6853 Looking forward to hearing about it :)
How does the new wheel perform and sound?
Definitely gonna have to do a review of this shortly.. It has been performing great, has taken alot of beatings but not buckled once! It is a 24 engagement point hub so not the greatest sounding hub, but still alot better than the stock 15 EP..
Hey. bro can i use DT Swiss H 1900 Spline 29 on my x caliber 8? its e bike wheele tho?
Hmm I'm not sure about that one! Would advise asking a certified dt swiss dealer 😄
will this work on any of the xd drive/ micro spline freehub or do i need a different endcap?
Can't say for sure. But I think they use the same system on most hubs..
how about changing the hub? is it the same?
Don't know.. But it's more work changing a hub..
Hey Mike! What diameter QR is this? Would it fit a 5 mm QR? Thanks in advance!
and my bike is 12 x 141mm! sorry forgot to mention this!
I was disappointed, however, I did some research and found out that 9mm axle is only for the front. Then I saw your video and asked, and you confirmed, plus another amazon review also confirmed. So piece is arriving Monday brother! Excited to get rolliiiiiiin' thanks again for the help 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
@@luisarodriguez9136 Haha yeah axle standards are weird! The axle is 9mm front and 10mm rear, and the skewer is 5mm.. then we have 110mm and 115mm front axles which can be 15mm or 20 mm thick. and rear of course with the 135, 141, 142 and 148 :D They should just decide on one and go with it.. Not to mention bottom brackets and crank standards..
@@Mikesbikerides I know bro. Trust me! And for a new rider like myself is a bit overwhelming, but once you know your bike, you can learn easily about others! I was waiting for the piece to arrive to reply. It just did, and it works PERFECTLY bro, so soon I'll be on wheels again! thanks again for the informative video, truly truly helped! Greetings from California!
Is it possible to convert SHIMANO DEORE XT Rear FREEHUB 148x12 mm E-THRU Axle 12-speed to make it Boost 141 5mm QR?
I don't think they have replaceable endcaps..
Is this a 1900 x? Which hub? Thx
thank you
No problemo! 😊
I’m very new to this. Is this process possible with the cassette installed?
It should be yes! But not all wheels can do it
Thank Mike. I have xcaliber 8 and im having problem with my rear hub engagement, id like to upgrade it to dt swiss hub, can you share link where you bought your end cap conversion kit? thanks
Tack!
Glad att kunna hjälpa till 😊
Ciao grazie mille per l'aiuto!! Potresti mandarmi il link dove li posso comprare, io ho mozzo dtswiss competion 12 velocità e lo devo fare diventare mozzo Quick release 5x 141 boost
I don't speak italian, but thanks for commenting :)
Hi! if I have 141.142 with 9mm? it's the same?
Boost 141 had a spacing of 141mm.
Non-boost 142 had a spacing of 142mm.
But most 142 hubs have through-axle which will not fit the 9mm dropouts. and if you replace the endcaps on a 142 through-axle hub it will become a 135mm spacing. With 9mm axle.
So confusing!
Can these fit on a vision team 30 dis hub?
I have no idea, sorry!
@@Mikesbikerides Thank you nevertheless.
pls send me link sir where i can buy that adaptors thanks
I have no idea where you can find them in your country. But the number I show in the video is used world wide so search for that 😁
Can I convert my 148mm hubs to 142mm ?
Nope! Or.. maybe by hacking the endcaps and sawing them off by a couple of mm..
1. You'll possibly ruin the frame
2. 142 is getting more rare, why upgrade to something that's soon obsolete?
Getting a 148 wheel and using the endcap trick will work great on your qr frame until you get a new frame with 148. The one downside of the qr wheels is their bearings which are cup/cone. The qr mechanism itself is not particularly weak.
@@Mikesbikerides 👍🏻 I just found a Nukeproof neutron v2 wheel/148 for great price & adapters. Ty for the advice!
