Where does this theory come from that fouls have to be equal.... If you foul, it should be called. If you foul more or less that isn't up to the refs to equalize the NUMBER of fouls. Just silly.
The theory comes from whiners. As a high level referee in the college soccer world myself, there’s always one team committing more whether it be due to being slower to the ball, less aggressive, or tactically to slow a certain player down.
Purdue fan here. Collins has not always rubbed me the right way, and grabbing Loyer's arm last year at NW really ticked me off. But he is growing on me, and I thought the intentional ejection was masterclass! I loved that he still got to Painter and Edey and worked the crowd! That was awesome! The refs did not decide the game. The players did. And both teams played amazing. Btw the possession before in OT with under a minute left, Bouie actually double-dribbled right in front of Purdue's bench and Painter saw it and told the refs but they missed it. So, if the refs don't miss that call then the later "block/charge" issue with Lance Jones with 15 seconds left doesn't even happen. I do think the refs could have called a hook on Jones there, but I also don't think it was egregious that they called a block foul. We were up 3 and NW had to foul if they didn't get the steal. Was not a game deciding call. But the ejection by Collins was awesome. Loved it! Good luck Wildcats!!!
FIFTY MORE FOULS SHOT! Totally lends credibility to the case that the Officials know who is going to win the game. FIFTY? Try and find another game with that officiating outcome. If that statistic was reversed, Purdue nation would be calling for an NCAA investigation.
@@kennjank9335 you realize that Collins whole strategy was to foul on every possession. He admitted it by saying he had 15 fouls to give to defend Edey. He dared the refs, and they responded. Totally his fault. Also Purdue drives the ball into the paint where many more fouls happen, Northwestern just gunned threes which don't get fouls called much.
@@briandick1248 Wrong. Rationalize all you want. No Division 1 coach has EVER set "foul on every possession" as their game strategy. You just can't bring yourself to admit that fouls on one end of the court were called differently than the other. "Home Town" officiating is not a myth. Thanks for your comment but don't buy your Final Four tickets just yet.
@kennjank9335 you obviously have never watched Indiana, Rutgers, or Northwestern play. Indiana guy admitted as much in presser after Purdue game. Also look up the foul disparity for the NW vs. Purdue game at NW same disparity. So much for your home town advantage bs.
I’m a Purdue fan but I admire the hell out of Northwestern. Collins’ antics at the end were pretty funny and I don’t think he was being an asshole like RMK was. Good team
Will someone please tell me why there was a tech called on Buie at the same time one was called on Collins? It was mentioned in an ESPN article with no explanation.
Down 50 in FTs????? The free throws discrepancy was 32 with 10 of them being tech shots or intentional fouls to extend the game. It was also their game plan to foul Edey when he got the ball. Why the surprise???
Collins was following a strategy which to repeatedly and intentionally foul Edey rather than try to honestly defend him. I'm guessing the idea was that the refs would miss some of the fouls and then Collins could claim that the fewer fouls Purdue committed was evidence of referee bias. In fact, less than half of fouls Northwestern committed under the basket got called. Just watch the video of the game and listen for how many times the announcers pointed out fouls that didn't get called. Collins had no right to complain at the end.
I watched the game….NW fouled a lot because they couldn’t guard Edey - he actually should’ve shot 25+ FTS instead of 17, and they got smoked on the offensive glass, which always leads to extra fouls. Collins is a great coach, but he’s human and his emotions got in the way with the foul discrepancy number.
Chris Collin’s is a sore loser. He stated his strategy was to foul zach any time he touched the ball and Painter stated his strategy was to defend without fouling. Purdue is getting no credit for defending an aggressive team mostly clean and without fouling. Collin’s acting the like every team deserves the same number of free throws every game, that’s not how this works. You get the number of free throws you deserve. Now people are giving Purdue no attention for the win and focusing on Collins’s temper tantrum
Purdue shot 33 free throws in regulation while Northwestern shot 5 in regulation. They had a shot to win it in regulation. Collins doesn’t need to keep saying the difference was 50 when it was really 28.
Collin’s keeps whining. NU had a physical game plan that required fouling to keep up with Edey et al. Still a hothead to draw technical, pretty classless afterwards (only congratulated coach and Edey, egged on crowd). Sophomoric. But hats off to the players for staying in this game, came so close.
@@jaredgorsuch3176 28 FT differential is stunning, but consider NW is #327 in committing fouls and #312 in drawing fouls, while Purdue is the polar opposite at #8 and #14 respectively (per Kenpom), what do you expect? Coach Collins himself said he had 15 fouls to use and planned to maximize their value. And I understand the desire to taunt Purdue fans about their March record, but usually that comes from schools that actually did something in March, and NW probably has even worst reputation when it comes to March. They have made it what, 2 times?
Did anyone consider asking Collins about his game plan of using 15 fouls on Edey? Can Collins point to any fouls that were called that he thought were not fouls. He new what he was doing get the T at the end and adding to the FT discrepancy. He was trained to be a passive aggressive sore loser just like Coach K.
Blatantly lying. Free throw fiscrepancy was 38 not 50 and the discrepancy is because our strategy was to defend without fouling and his strategy was to foul zach every time he touched the ball
Can't blame it all on referees. Still officiating was a factor. Offensive foul wasn't called on Purdue late in overtime. Northwestern didn’t shoot second half free throw until 37 seconds left in regulation. Not good officiating. Wildcats still should have won in regulation. Timeout with 4 seconds left wasn't needed.
Purdue was favored by 13. I thought we were going to win by 25. Was very surprised by this game being so close. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team shoot that well in Mackey in my life. Plus it was extremely weird seeing Purdue shoot that badly at the FT line.
Courtney Green is the ref in this game. His ATS record ref'ing Purdue games is like 3-25-2. People who are smart make money every time betting under when he ref'ed Purdue, knowing that he's crooked.
Mackey is a joke; the visiting team rarely gets the benefit of any calls. I am an Illini fan, not Northwestern, but I feel sorry for Collins and his players, they got hosed like every other team that goes there for a game. Come tournament time when Purdue has to play at a neutral site, they will exit the tournament again before they get to the final four. Some coaching staff will figure out how to slow Eady down without leaving their guards open.
Chris Collins is complaining because his team got way less free throws than Purdue even though he explicitly stated that his strategy for the last few games against us his whole strategy has been to foul Zach every time he touches the ball using every foul he has available, and Painter always emphasizes his strategy is to defend without fouling. The difference in strategy alone leads to free throw disparity and Chris Collins gave our guys zero credit for simply defending an aggressive team well. Courtney Green officiated this game and Purdue is like 3-27 against the spread with him
Yeah. That's it. The visiting team gets hosed, because their strategy is to foul all their big guys out, hacking Zach. When that happens, I can't understand why. 😂
Yeah, Northwestern should have had 3 guys foul out with 10 minutes left. Don’t like the discrepancy? Collin’s shouldn’t coach his team to foul Eddy every play.
Your team is dirty last year in Evanston was a disgrace and Purdue was robbed try driving to the basket every once in awhile maybe you will get a foul call, Collins was disgusting tonight and his press conference was a joke

Coach said he had 15 fouls to give. They used 14 of those. You fouled as a part of your strategy. The strategy didn't work.
It’s really refreshing Coach Collins isn’t whining at all about the game. That kind of pure class you learn from being at Duke.
Um refreshing would be not being a jackass on the court
Troll of a comment
Actually he would have learned the best whining ever at duke
How ridiculous.....this is not a "learned skill" from Duke (this is all credit to Collins, no create to Duke). Stop it!
