Believing in yourself is defined as “confidence in ones own abilities” and self belief is defined as “trust in your own abilities” and these phrases are used synonymously with each other in sentences.

      People do not usually do heavy deadlifts at public gyms. We are used to see deadlifts because this is what we watch but it is a very small community of heavy lifers inside the fitness community. Average Joe only works upper body with free weights and uses the machines for legs if they do legs.

      I mean, depends on your definition of "average" but I see plenty of guys who are repping 320lbs or more. I used to as well back when I was deadlifting regularly. It's impressive more because of his age, not because it's a weight most gym goers couldn't lift.

      I agree, Eddie hall is being a bit of a dick about the 501, but I also think Brian Shaw and Robert Oberest are talking sense. The 501 will be great entertainment and will be a record but sadly an unofficial one. I have no doubts Thor will pull 502 in competition and put all the doubt to bed. The way the world is now this is what we got and we will have to deal with it

      sean treacy I wouldn’t say so, there is numerous of lifting records done in unofficial surroundings and conditions that’s still official to this day. This lift still have the prestige of so many quality partners and teams that it would cast no shadow over this achievement, whatever the outcome of the lift.

The heaviest I ever was was 183, but that was with all my clothes on, a lot of water in my system, and right after downing a post workout shake. Was able to hit 315 for 20 reps at that size. I just felt really sluggish. That's too big for my frame. 155-165 is the weight where I feel my best but I'd like to get back to that weight, temporarily, just to enter a competition for fun.

    I'd love to see Thor lift against just regular gym goers one day, so that we can see just how strong he really is.
    It's easy to forget how strong he is when you see him do this shit all the time, so it would be cool if he went to a public gym one day (when things are back to normal) and compete against regular guys.

      Well people go to the gym for a ton of reasons so it's kinda a moot point to compare their strength to normal peoples strength, he trains his strength for a living, of course he is much stronger, he is a strongman. I would like to see him go to a gym and try to beat people in things like running or calisthenics or something.

      Adrian Pap Only under WUS regulations. It won’t be like for like with Eddies at Giants Live under competition. Many break records in their own gyms outside the pressure of competition.
      Yes Thor can deadlift 501kgs but he can only claim that record under WUS and will not have bragging rights over Eddie doing so this way .

    If Thor is lifting 501 kg he is lifting
    501 kg I don't give a s*** if it is a world record or not. we all know he has lifted it and therefore the best
    end of story. That's my opinion

      The problem is unless the plates and bar aren't calibrated then how do you know it's legit? I can theoretically pull heavy weight on camera and claim a record. It's like brain said, nothing wrong with it being considered UNOFFICIAL. But an official record needs to be done under proper conditions. If thor can do that, then it's all good! Better to silence the doubters from the jump.

      Joao Leal needs to be lifted in competition with others competing. Needs to be in a competition environment. Lifting when it’s your turn and told to lift not when you are ready to lift . I do not have a problem with him breaking the world record if it’s in competition. I hope he does it ! But you can’t do it under your own conditions .its not legit

    Brian Shawn’s take on this “record” is objective and spot on. Saying it isn’t a world record is not hate. Thor is superhuman and we know this, but certain labels come with certain criteria, and lifting in the confines of your home does not fit criterion. I’m still a fan and respect all of his achievements.

      Spot on. It's amazing if he lifts 501kg in his gym and I'm sure many of us will tune in, but it shouldn't count as a world record. Or it shouldn't be mentioned in competitions as a WR because it wasn't in a competitive situation. Shaw had it right this week and Oberst followed up with similar thoughts.

      It was always my desire to be 200lbs

      @@wannabeserpento99 , makes no difference if it's sanctioned or not and shame on those who decided to sanction. My opinion has no ill will towards Thor, I'm a big fan. My concern is for the health of the sport which has come a long way in recent years in which Thor himself has helped promote. If record attempts are going to now be accepted at non-competitive venues, what's the enticement for fans to participate and sponsors to invest in competitions? This is a slippery slope for the sport. Don't get me wrong, I wish Thor luck but, it should be a non-official record, in my opinion.
