A really fun fact: It's Over, Isn't It? was gonna have a simple storyboard and animation, but Pearl's voice actress went so ham on the song, they had to scrap it and make a whole new animation for the song! I love stuff like this and it shows how well the voice actors are getting into the roles.
Fun fact! What you saw in this first episode is actually a realistic thing in psychology. Kids like Sour Cream who grow up in bilingual households can sometimes slip into their second language without thinking about it. Also, Steven's voice sounding like Rose Quartz during the song? That was *all* Zach; they didn't edit it or subtly switch to Susan or anything. Kid's just got range.

ive seen people say pearl should have moved on by know, but they dont realize that pearl is over 10k years old so from her perspective rose pretty much just died
I think pearl has finally come to learn that this isn't Greg's fault and that he didn't "steal" rose. I don't think rose ever loved pearl any more than she did the other gems so Greg couldn't have stolen her from pearl because she never belonged to pearl
I would say Rose's feelings for Pearl are not easy to describe, they have a pretty complex relationship. Between the creator's statements, her drawings, and spoilers of course.
I think Pearl and Rose's relationship was like a high-school sweethearts/first love kind of thing. Greg helped Rose understand mature love, as we saw in the episode with the flashback of them talking.
If I were gonna show a person who'd never seen Steven Universe an episode of the show, I'd show them Mr. Greg. It contains some of the show's best character moments, and what I consider the best song in the show, all without any major plot revelations/spoilers, plus it's a musical! Not to mention it was nominated for an Emmy
pearl is one of my favorite characters and her story with rose is heartbreaking. I honestly think her animosity towards greg is understandable. to love and be devoted to someone who does not value you the same is devastating enough but to also have them choose someone else over you who they then sacrifice their existence to create a child with is even more messed up.
"What if they start to love each other?" My guy, Pearl is the gayest person on this whole show, even gayer than Garnet, who is the literal EMBODIMENT of a lesbian relationship 🤣
it's a little more sad (rose-pearl), if you look back at all the flash backs we've seen, rose never showed that she LOVES pearl. Pearl was always hoping that ONE DAY, rose would come around, but then ... she died.
how a children's series can treat and represent the disorders of a person so well... When you lose a person who is important to you, there is a void inside you that you don't know how to fill... You are aware that that someone will not come back. You know that all those moments and feelings were gone in the blink of an eye. You look defeated, unable to do or be anything. You fall into a great depression. In this case it is even worse. Because Perla lives with the cause of the death of her beloved, her teacher, her important person. Pearl must take care of Steven who is indirectly the cause of Rose's death, and Greg who caused the beginning of his end. The episode isn't just perfect and beautiful. If not, it makes you feel so much empathy for Perla, and she lets you feel a little of her pain, and more so if you went through the same thing. Definitely one of my favorite episodes of Steven Universe.
This episode truly made me feel so sad for pearl it was honestly heart breaking because Rose never loved Pearl anymore than just a close friend, but Pearl had a unrequited love for Rose for over 5000 years and never even had the chance to tell her how she really felt about her because she never believed it was possible for rose to truly fall IN love with anyone until greg came along and she must have felt so "worthless" to an extant because despite all that she has done for Rose, Rose still never fell in love with her and now she bares the responsibility of raising her deceased unrequited loves child along side the only person who was ever actually able to get Rose to fall in love with them while not even having the oppurtunity to have any real closure with the once love of her life. Pearl is so incredibly strong emotionally if you really sit back and think about it and my heart truly aches for her.
In retrospect that final song was some HEAVY ass foreshadowing. I can't wait for you to get to the episose I'm referencing so you understand what I mean!
Does somebody remember when Steven was a chubby, physically proportioned boy? This season they draw him with a head twice the size of the body. Or a with a tiny body compared to the head.
At least he knows why Pearl has been acting the way she has. I know Pearls attitude was annoying, but now you understand what she went through after Rose left.
Yo I absolutely loved the absolutely ridiculous foreshadowing to what would happen in change your mind with Greg being yellow and pearl being blue and both of them loving Steven who was pink
Mr Greg is actually my favorite episode of all of Steven universes ever. It has my favorite song “it’s Over Isn’t it” and the story is amazing. It always makes me cry. And it creates an unlikely friendship because they both get to grieve together about the loss of the one they loved. It’s so perfect😩
hell yeah these two episodes, mr greg is one of my favourite steven universe episodes and it's over isn't it is one of my favourite steven universe songs
Pearl and Rose were lovers for 6000 years: Pearl is still grieving this hard because she’s lost the love of her life 14 years before and in gem years that’s barely more than a moment.
I cried like a baby the first time i listenedto "It's over isn't it" and especially during the "now I've got to be there for her son" it brooooke me💔 I thought maybe "I love both of you" would "heal" that but it broke me more lol
man, i love how dancing to gems, is like the beginning of a fusion that is also equivalent to sitting down, talking your feelings out and coming to a conclusion. And that was like the huge reason why pearl did not want to dance with greg. She didn't want to reconcile any part of those uncomfortable feelings she had about rose with greg. That's why when greg first tried to woo and flirt with rose and they eventually talked it out and just danced, pearl still thought that they failed fusion. Yet garnet said they DID managed fusion. Cause you don't need fusion to date a gem. Putting work into a relationship and making it work *IS* fusion to garnet, even if the physical part of fusion never happened with greg & rose.
I think Rose loved Pearl and also loved Greg, but in her personal way. She wasn't in a monogamous relationship with Pearl because monogamy Is something very cultural and she's a gem, not a Human, so i think It was kinda a open relationship, so She can do what She really wanted: experimenting, trying something new. The lack of communication about this Is What destroyed Pearl: Rose never defined the relationship because It Is not something a gem knows (She never even said "i love you" to someone, She Always Say "you important, incredible, unique", she was a relationship anarchist, that doesn't know/ want to set boundaries between frienship, love, "playing" and stuff), and Pearl never asked for this because She was too submissive with her, but She wasn't Happy with It. Also i think Steven wasn't the result of a "special bonding" between rose and Greg, but Just another new esperience that She wanted to try (It doesn't mean she didn't "love" greg, Just that the experimenting part of the thing was the mail part, i think)... She isn't a horrible being for these, if you know her past and her personality you could understand her
It's Over, Isn't It? is one of my favorite songs, ever. Makes me tear up every time. There's a great live performance by the voice actress on UA-cam, worth checking out.
I know everyone's favorite song from this episode is It's Over, Isn't It? but personally my favorite is the one that comes afterwards, Both of You. After all these years I still can't sing this song all the way through without breaking down into tears
I was going through the video afterwards, and SPOILER . . I love the foreshadowing of that song, how Greg has yellow lights on him, Pearl has blue on her, and Steven has pink on him. Later, Steven uses Yellow and Blue Diamond's love for Pink to unite everyone.
It's great the things about this episode you can't know until you see what they're telling about later. It's small moments but... I love that first episode.
not really a spoiler, but Mr Greg was a sorta test for rebecca sugar for the eventual movie! if you think about it, greg and pearl DO have a lot in common: music, building, caring about steven, having a thing for large women.
It would actually be a cool twist for the episode if things haven't been resolved right away. I like what you said and think it would be a great plot, "Steven is a child and he doesn't know that not everything can be solved", i think the episode could've played like normal until the last song, then i would've left pearl and greg to talk and kind of understand each other without the need of Steven's intervention, it wouldn't be friendship right away but it would be a start and develop in later episodes.
I still don't know if they got Rose's voice actress to sing along with Steven during his song, or if Steven's VA is just that good to be able to kind of emulate her voice.
Assuming that Marty really was entitled to 75% of Greg's IP earnings, then he must have gotten thirty million dollars to Greg's ten million. Marty probably sunk all of that into Guacola thinking he'd hit even more paydirt, but instead he found just dirt and now he's as good as broke. If there were any doubts whether Greg was exaggerating Marty's nastiness in his Story For Steven version, this should bury them.
The point of that dance was to understand each other to see what they both are going through putting themselves in their own perspectives and in each others they both love Rose and Rose love both of them but she’s not there and they have to move on and it’s time to love Steven now and that’s with Rose would really want it if she was or wasn’t here
