  • *Sorry had some issues with the format of my previous video*
    Not my normal kind of video but I thought I would do a quick one of my Trek.
    This is my Trek FX 1 I purchased back in 2019. I bought it as a commuter and pavement bike. I recently made some changes to make it more suitable for gravel riding.
    This is the changed specs of the bike
    Frame: 2019 Trek FX1
    Brakes: factory Tektros with 4ROX (take off) levers and Clark all-weather pads
    Crankset: Prowheel with 40T n/w chainring
    Pedals: RaceFace Chester (black)
    Drivetrain: Deore 10 speed 11-42T cassette
    Bars: 4Rox (take off), flipped factory stem and lowered by 1 spacer.
    Grips: Norco (take off of my Torrent)
    Wheels: Factory front, rear is 49N with Joytech HG hub
    Tires: Goodyear Connector 700x 40c

    Good video! That's an awesome conversion man! I have the Trek FX2 and rode it on gravel, while it's ok, it definitely needs to be converted or changed to full gravel or mtb for the rough terrain.

      Thank you! It’s a great little bike! I rode this bike on gravel a little bit on stock form and I gotta say it’s sooo much better now. The FX2 is a solid bike as well! I’m sure you could go fairly wide on a FX2 too!

    Love the bike I'm doing the same thing with my FX1. When you added the rear 11 speed cassette, did you have to Stretch the frame to get it in there? I’m finding that I need to Also what rear derailleur are you using. I have a deore XT 8100 and it does not feel like it is hanging correctly. ( keep in mind I have a single speed/ Fixie background so derailleurs as a whole baffle me and I could just be paranoid or neurotic)

      Thanks for watching! I didn’t have to stretch the frame at all, but it’s also a 10 speed (11-42T). The Derailleur is a Deore M4100 with an SGS cage. I got it for a great deal and even without a clutch I figured I’ll go for it. The front chain ring is a N/W and for gravel use I don’t really have to worry about the chain coming off like my mtb.
      What cage length do you have and what size is your cassette?

    What year is your bike? I have a 2022 FX-4 and was thinking about wider tires for the rail trails but wasn't sure how wide I could go. I think it currently has 32s on it

      Hey there! Mine is a 2019. I tried to look up your bike and the trek website only shows the FX 4 Sport in 2022. It says it came with 40mm tires and will fit up to 42mm wide without fenders.
      What I did was grab an Allen key and run it between the tire and the frame to see how much space I had with my current tires. You want to leave yourself at least 4mm on each side of the tire. With my current setup I was 6mm on one side and about 4.5mm on the other. Also check out tire height and see if there is lots of space where the top of the tire contacts the frame.

      @@ivanmtb00 Oh thanks. I didn't know Trek still listed old models on their website. I bought it in 2022 but it might be a 2021. They discontinued the FX-4 but it showed on Trek's website in 2022 when I bought this one. I know the following year for 2023 the FX-3 was specked the same as the discontinued fX-4. I'll look at the FX-3 because I think they're still using the same frame. Thanks

      @@ivanmtb00 I found it archived on Trek's website. They list 35mm with fenders and 38mm without. I'm guessing mine is the same frame as yours, and you say 40s work so maybe I'll give the 40s a try then. Currently it has 32s on it but they are inadequate for the rail trails. Thanks again

      @@jimdent351 I had a look at the 2021 and I bet that’s the one. I just can’t remember when trek did a refresh on their frames. The geometry looks really similar but it’s off by a few mm. For the 2021 they call for 38mm max. Mine was the same and I was able to squeeze in 40’s and honestly I could have likely gone 42mm

      @@ivanmtb00 Thanks for your help. I will be looking at 40s to try on it because I believe they'll probably fit. If not, I'll just return them.

    How much did your upgrades cost? I have an FX2 and want to do something similar, but also considering a new bike altogether if upgrading parts is too much.

    • @ivanmtb00
      @ivanmtb00  8 місяців тому

      Totally understandable! These are all in Canadian dollar. The 1x conversion was about $200, tires were $85 each which I needed to replace anyways, pedals were $35, grips I think $15-20. Going tubeless was pretty cheap, I had a roll of gorilla tape and some tubeless sealant at home, valves are about $25 if I remember right. I did have to replace my rear wheel because I bent the axle but I believe the FX2 comes with a freehub already so you won’t need that. I had to replace my brake levers too but I don’t think you’ll have that problem since I think you have disc brakes already. Handlebars are from my spare parts bin, and I flipped the stock stem. I think that’s about it!

      @Tytora 3 місяці тому +1

      Hey thanks for responding. I'm 6’4 so I'm kinda worried that a large would be too small, I think XL would be fit for me.

    • @ivanmtb00
      @ivanmtb00  3 місяці тому

      No problem, at 6’4 I would think a large would be too small. I’m 5’9 and between Medium and Large. 6’4 would put you on an XL according to their size chart.
