Thanks for the video. I've had enough of them stealing the bird food I put out and recently they've started attacking smaller birds and I even scared one away who had pinned down a starling and was mercilessly ripping it apart for entertainment. Hi claytonthe trail i build a magpie trap and i dont know if its good enough is it some way i can send you a picture of my magpie trap? And you could see?
Seeing it probably won’t help. I learned it has to be big, 1.2 meters wide, 1.8 meters long, and 1.5 meters tall the hole on top needs to be 13 centimeters square. It needs to be see through, like wire mesh or they won’t go in. I use either grain or dead rabbits as bait
I didn't actually build one of these yet, because I got a larsen trap. I caught one last year, but that did nothing to their population. They are worse this year. Looks like this could potentially get them all in my area in one day! I'm going to have to design mine a bit different, more for a method of extraction, as I',m in the city, and can't just walk outside in the back yard with a pellet gun or what have you. I have to make it more discrete. Last summer, I had to pick up the larsen trap and take it into the garage.
I tried poison, anti - freeze, rat poison in meat thrown onto a roof, didn't work. Summer now, horrendous noise and they've bred like rats😢The nest is so far up otherwise i'd SMASH IT TO PIECES HA HA
@@hartleyhare99 I had considered poison, but kind of scared other animals like the odd cat or rabbit, might consume it as well. Nice! I might have the try a smaller version of this. I live in the city, and don't have very good spots for shooting them with a .17 cal air rifle. Even my neighbors are tired of them. They are relentlessly noisy in our neighborhood, day in day out. I've heard people hating on crows, seaguls and other creatures for their noisyness. I am fine with those, but I've never heard them in excess. Our city is known as the capital of magpies - they are too common here, and espeically concentrated in areas like mine within the city. I am not exaggerating when I say, you really can't walk around my area during the day, without hearing them going off, nyaking up a storm somewhere close or within ear shot. There are less song birds around here too. We really do have a magpie problem here - they even get into some of the neighbors garbage. We don't have coyotes or anything like that. I have to sleep with ear plugs in to reduce the chances of getting woke up too early by them, or going to sleep at night. YES, they REALLY ARE THAT noisy in my area, and they do NOT make a pleasant sound either. I think this style of trap is a good option for us here.
I tried a smaller version and they either wouldn’t go in or could jump back out the top. Maybe you will have better luck. I am tired of feeding them and being woken up early because they think I should be feeding them...
