In late 2018 and few months into 2019, I experienced the worst physical pain EVER…due to disc herniation. I know those who have been there can relate!! 😖 thank God for physical therapy sessions… as since then continue to perform the exercises I’ve learned. Waking has also helps tremendously! I recently bought a kettle-bell weight (10 LBS)… I love the feeling of the kettle-bell swing whilst maintaining proper form/posture, of course. Hi, I have been suffering with severe pain from past couple of months. Regular press up were not working , banana elbow prop up took significant/ most amount of pain away. I am glad I came across your video. Thanks for doing this. Very helpful. Keep up the good work! I have been watching your videos. Love your passion.
I had a laminectomy 23 years ago on my L5-S1 by a neurosurgeon who had just come to my hospital from Rochester Mayo. Within days I was walking a mile, then more. I was sent home with a bottle of hydrocodone but never took a single pill. I've been pain free now for all of the years since. Before the surgery I remember doing the bad push-up with the sagging belly to relieve the pain. It did work but I had to keep doing it.
had to come to UA-cam…. My medical provider is so money hungry, told me I need surgery, nah I’m good on that. Always have that fear if they mess up and I become paralyzed from the waist down… PT is trash doesn’t work. But no one showed me this technique, I’ll give this a try. Thanks guys!
I recently saw a chiropractor this week & found out from an MRI that I have mild disc protrusion & narrowing of the foramen in my L4-S1, so THANK YOU this came at the perfect time. 💜 Merry Christmas & have a safe New Year!
I've had this issue since 2001. Have you tried insoles created by a 3d scanner? My chiro did this for me in 2017 and I think it's helped a lot. I also have cut a lot of inflammatory foods and stay hydrated with electrolytes. I walk a lot and stretch the performis. They say ice is better than heat. Hugs to you. This is a tough journey.
I love you guys! Ive been watching your videos for years since my first episode of pain almost 10 years ago. I’ve been suffering with sciatic pain for years now. Never realized that pain in my buttocks and behind my knee were related to sciatic. Now it’s reach beyond my knee and sometimes my foot tingles. I’ve had three epidural shots which helped a little, however, due to other circumstances with foot injuries I’ve had setbacks. I really don’t want to have surgery, but it is very difficult to stretch and do exercises with the pain that I have. I do feel change with the exercises even a little bit. This is going to be a tough journey for me, but I don’t want to have surgery. Watching your videos and reading the comments really makes me feel that I’m not alone, and that I can do this without surgery.
I have found bob & brad extremely helpful and knowledgeable over the years, but this routine did nothing for my sciatica and leg and foot tingle. My local hospital physical therapist gave me a set of exercises that activated the buttocks as well as flexing the lumber spine and my symptoms are after almost 2 months gone! I was told to lie on back and rock knees from side to side, then do bridges lifting butt off ground driving heals into floor, then cat/cows on hands and needs rotating pelvis forward and back, then lumber stretches sitting on butt, feet tucked in behind knees apart stretch forward along the floor, then to finish lean against a wall and side / bend like a banana bending towards the sciatic side! 5-10 reps each, 3 times a day! Worked for me thankfully, we getting very worried and depressed with the pain and tingling! Best of luck
Always reliable information and within the physical range of us older folk. One physio suggested hanging from the door frame which is guaranteed to bring my house down!
Thank you for the informative (as usual) video. My husband is coming up on five years now with pain from a herniated disc (L4 L5), but now, the MRI and X-ray shows a small annular tear. He is going to re-start his PT at home thanks to your incredibly helpful videos (especially this one), in order to hopefully alleviate his sciatica.
@@BobandBrad Thanks for the response. Truly honored to receive a reply. You two are experts and are appreciated so much for all you have done throughout the years!
I had a really bad flare of sciatica a week ago. Doing these with the hanging exercise helped tremendously. I still have an MRI in a few days, but I couldn't walk for a two days. Now the pain has centralized in my lower back. Also took flexeril for three days which really helped calm things down along with standard PT.

Great job discerning between the two schools of thought on the subject of the press up! You guys knocked it out of the park. These are definitely helping.

I have two herniated disks at L4/L5 and L5/S1 that are impinging the nerves. Three weeks after the injury, I tried these press ups, and was a little to aggressive so it increase my symptoms. I stopped, and focused on reducing the inflammation in the area with anti-inflammatory supplements, a month prescription of Diclofenac and icing about 6 times a day for a few weeks. Now that the inflammation is down, I'm doing the press ups again, but very conservatively, not even going up more than a few inches thus far, but it is now starting to help my symptoms. Get the inflammation down first.
Almost a year until February with this severe pain they told me it just wasn’t as “severe” according to the “doctors” but I know it’s more than severe when I can’t stand up longer than 30 min before it starting to hurt badly only reason why I’m standing it’s cause I hold myself up with things around me but enough talk thanks for the video exercise tips I’m going to continue doing exercises see if anything improves since it’s most likely going to cause something more than just the sciatic pain 🙃
Had surgery Went to p.t. second week 3rd visit ruff night sleeping, could hardly walk to the bathroom, for 2 days, Went back to 4th visit same thing. Now have a cane, an shorter step seem to help. Failed back surgery syndrome, or Failed fusion. Not sure but hard time walking, sitting, standing, laying down all day. Thank you again.
Too late for me, 2014, L45 and L51 M6 replacement, Hattingen Germany, did L45, disc, and then 5 days later L51 posterior fusion, there was complication with the L51 blood artery, so good now but had L23 reduction, lost all leg feeling L23 in right leg. so I do POE ALL THE TIME, prone on elbow for the L23 and it is god send from the VA, jodi in Ohio, James rd. This needs to be done ALL the time. great stuff
I had terrible pain from L1 thru L6 plus S1 all bulging medium I'm told. This last event was the worst . Feeling better now but holy cow that was bad . Watching for exercises ! Thanks for what you guys do !

By doing these exercises and relieving the pain does that mean damaged disc is getting a chance to heal at the same time? What a great video thanks for posting.!
Please make a video about Chronic Disc bulge as there are no videos on chronic L4-L5-S1 Disc bulge. I for example am suffering from L4-L5-S1 Disc bulge since 7 years now. And the discs are completely degenerated.
Thanks, Bob and Brad! I hope my brand new mattress helps, too. I'll be doing these exercises to continue to progress. Please keep helping us in 2021. Merry Christmas and I wish you both a happy and healthy New Year. 🎄💚🎄
I’ve had referred pain in my hamstring and knees, usually left leg, since October 2023. I can’t sit, can’t stand, and frequently can’t sleep because it’s too painful. There is a swelling/building of pressure sensation in my left knee and I have to kick out periodically to release the tension and it will make an audible pop sound. I often have pain in my back, but not always. I almost always have pain and a feeling of pressure in my knee when I sit or when I’m laying down. When I stand, it feels like a knife being driven into the side of the knee (inside of the leg). If I stand too long, the pain spreads to both knees. I’m only 32 years old, but I’ve lost almost complete mobility. I can hardly remember what it feels like to be pain free. I would give just about anything to not have this constant pain.
Hey Guys, thank you for this program, you don't know how much you helped me with my sciatica a couple of years ago, I had to walk with a broomstick because the pain was so severe, and by doing the press-ups on the carpet I felt immediate relief. After looking for videos even in Spanish, my mother tongue, your tips were so straight to the point that you were the only ones that really helped me. Happy Christmas!!!
If I was lying on my stomach and do the press-up, I will feel the pain down my left back thigh. But if I jusst lay flat and relax, I don't feel pain at all. It's strange to me and wonder if I should continue doing the exercise when I feel the pain.

I have Mild neural foraminal narrowing, Left side of L5-S1. I followed your cobra position but it gave more pain when I was doing exersice. Could you please explain me the reason. Thanks in advandce.
WHAT IF THE IT CAUSES PAIN? WHEN I DO PRESS UPS I GET MORE PAIN. I ALSO GET MORE PAIN FROM FLEXION. SO NEUTRAL IS BEST. ALSO LAYING FLAT FOR SLEEP IS WORSE. SITTING MAKES IT HURT LESS TOO.
I would suggest anyone who has this issue with L5 to S1 get a myelogram CT scan to determine what your spinal cord looks like to actually see how things are. MRI’s don’t show everything. I know from personal experience and now L5 to S1 fused for me.
I have pain on my buttocks, and it’s painful to sit and try to get out of bed. I’ve been in bed for a few days now on laying on my stomach. Will this help with the buttock pain? Thanks and I appreciate your channel!
I have been diagnosed to have disc bulge in the lower back. I have no pain down the legs. I do have pain in the back. I do go for a 30 minute walk every other day. This seems to help a little bit. But the pain returns. Also it is not a sharp pain like a nerve pain. It is more like muscle pain. I've got an inversion machine and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Would doing the press ups help my condition?
My sciatica has changed over time. Extensions exercises like the ones you demonstrate here helped me as I progressed to walking again. Now, extension exacerbates and I need flexion - pelvic tilt, working on ab strength and sleeping with back flat/knees way up provide relief. Would you do a video on changing presentation and treatments that evolve from extension to flexion? Thanks B&B!
🎯🎯🎯 nailed it. After suffering for decades with a herniated disc progressively worsening at L5-S1, I had a discectomy in 2016. Recovery started out well, but was soon halted after someone had literally ran into me like we were playing tackle football. Complicating things, I have major neurological damage and a spine full of lesions. I love this channel. I learn new things, and am reminded of things i had forgotten. Fast forward to 2022, and I have a herniated disc again (L4-L5). Spoiler alert, I’m not having another GD surgery. 🤦🏻♀️ I guess if there is a silver lining, it’s that I’m armed with the knowledge & experiences of the past. I have had so much physical therapy over the years (as insurance permits) but receiving continuous care isn’t possible. Ironic, because if insurance approved more continuous ongoing sessions, progress could be made and sustained. Unfortunately, it’s like a Paula Abdul lyric; one step forward & two steps back.
I wish I had the option to slowly start walking again.. I had a weeks off work before I've been back and they cannot give me more time off to heal until they can find someone to replace me cuz we're so short staffed. So I have to walk and stand for 5-6 hrs 5 days a week. It's been torture for the last 4 months.. AND everyone still is sticking with the more movement the better.. and when I ask if I should keep pushing through pain where I can barely stand and walk without wanting to cry and still walk more and they don't know.. the only time I feel better is when I rest and have days off.. I'm stretching and exercising daily but it's not gotten much better...
Hi.. i have a quick question... ive gone to a chiropractor for years.. he was never manual, always adapter tool on my back.. ive recently seen a new one who immediately did an xray ..discovered my L4L5 disc's had shifted forward.. stage 1. I'm doing exercises and seeing him but I cannot handle manual hands on.. am I ok to continue my own exercises and seeing him with adapter tool or should I see a physio therapist.
Bob and brad do a video on this topic physical training is necessary but how far you suppose to push and it is dangerous to push way far they do that to be really great or to be the best. For sports people or normal people. How much stress can your whole system take.
The area where my lowest vertebrae meet my sacrum has been hurting all week. I've gone through all of the SI joint, hip, tailbone, slipped/bulging disk, and sciatica videos and as far as I'm aware I haven't found any one diagnosis or set of exercises that seem to fit what I'm going through. For example, I can barely do Dr. Abbasi's preliminary self-test for SI joint issues when I get up, but it does improve after doing the 90-90 stretch for a bit. However, none of the other SI joint tests are positive regardless of whether I stretch. It's probably too dangerous with COVID to hit up the hospital now, so I'm just trying to address it from home. Hurts to sit down, law down, and stand up, but no pain in my legs at all. Walking is more or less fine. Sitting on the toilet is extremely painful (but using it is fine) and it's hard to sleep a full night, even with my feet raised and a McKenzie style towel roll under my lower back. Feels like I fell really hard and hurt my lower back and butt, but I haven't. I've tried a couple different regimes, but it feels like I'm back to square one again every morning. I'm a 32 year old student who does a lot of desk work. Please help!

Hi Guys, It has been 7 months with prolapse L5-S1 and pain still down on my leg, does not come up to buttocks, Stretching does not help, swimming and walking almost every day. What to do? I want to be normal...no more sciatic pain. Thanks you for your help.
Had l4 l5 bulging disc surgery on November 1st. Couldn’t even hardly walk my pain was so bad down my leg and still have one in my l5 s1. Still having what seems like periformis pain and nerve healing pain. Is there any excessive or anything y’all recommend for this to help strengthen or ease pain. Getting better with time however just curious if can help the process.
And what do you do when lying on your stomach and extension doesn't help? Extension can actually make my back worse so I don't do much of it anymore. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
this really helps thnk you......wht if my hip gets really paiful when I turn my leg in to the sides (open and close) while im seating on the chair....or when I want to get off the car ...is it the same thing

Thanks Bob & Brad, have a wonderful 2022!
Thanks for posting. This is exactly what I'm experiencing now.
No problem!
This needs to be done ALL the time.
great stuff
I love these 2, soooo much helpful information ❤❤ thank you from the bottom of my heart boys. Best wishes from Bulgaria 🇧🇬
You are very welcome, thank you for your continued support
I had terrible pain from L1 thru L6 plus S1 all bulging medium I'm told. This last event was the worst . Feeling better now but holy cow that was bad . Watching for exercises ! Thanks for what you guys do !

@@CIA0 yeah I have the same thing. It's not as rare as you think
@@davidpenwell3432 there's no L6 😫

Bertolotti syndrome L6 means bone growth on side of l5
Comment for algorithm. Some of the best content on yt. Well done and thanks.
😊
Of course! Thank you.
I am a patient of low bache my MRI reports says there defect in L4-L5 &L5-S1 disc spaces reduced.Right centrolateral disc prolapse seen at L5-S1 level with bilateral root canaal stenosis, more to the right side.i have just started your excercises. I am feeling little relief. Thanks sir.
By doing these exercises and relieving the pain does that mean damaged disc is getting a chance to heal at the same time? What a great video thanks for posting.!
Yes, you’re bringing blood flow to the area which will bring oxygen and nutrients for healing. You’ll also be strengthening the lower back.
My pain was gone for almost 4 months now. Can I still do the exercises in this video even without the pain?
My disc bulge are L3 L4, L4 L5, L5 S1
Thankyou for this video. I have this condition but I have also got spondololysthesis of L5 over S1.
Are press ups safe for me?
Please do a video to help with SI joint pain.
Awesome Bob n Brad. Thank❤ you
You are very welcome!
Thank you for being helpful.
Thank you two so much! So much appreciated information!!
Thanks a lot for this video.
THANKYOU BOB AN BRAD!
Thanks for sharing! I'm going to try these. Hopefully it helps !
Thanks for good tips. I will try to work on this technique. Thanks
Very good. Thank you
I was diagnosed with L5 S1 bulging disc with a MRI test, no pain at this point
Hey Guys, thank you for this program, you don't know how much you helped me with my sciatica a couple of years ago, I had to walk with a broomstick because the pain was so severe, and by doing the press-ups on the carpet I felt immediate relief. After looking for videos even in Spanish, my mother tongue, your tips were so straight to the point that you were the only ones that really helped me. Happy Christmas!!!
So happy we could help! Merry Christmas.
If I was lying on my stomach and do the press-up, I will feel the pain down my left back thigh. But if I jusst lay flat and relax, I don't feel pain at all. It's strange to me and wonder if I should continue doing the exercise when I feel the pain.
Same here.
Hello bob and brad im from india i have a problem l4 l5 deep press on the nerve im 25 years old it really disheartened me and giving my parent a troublesome moreover i have an appointed about my job in the coming month. Can this exsercise heal completly without a surgery

I did this pillow it feels good i feel the decompression but when i take a deep breath whilst on it i feel a pulling pain somewhere in my tail bone. It’s a good kind of pain, it goes away after a second but is there every time i take a deep breath
I dont have any pain or symptoms but my mri report showing bulge in L4 and L5 and S1 what should i do can you guys help
You are great 🙏🙏
I have Mild neural foraminal narrowing, Left side of L5-S1.
I'm going to try putting rubber bands around my vertebra. Wish me luck!
Good luck !!
I have pain on my buttocks, and it’s painful to sit and try to get out of bed. I’ve been in bed for a few days now on laying on my stomach. Will this help with the buttock pain? Thanks and I appreciate your channel!
Sounds like you have a piriformis syndrome.👀
Me too but it the disc above the last 3-4 before tail bone. I'm hurting bad
I liked the video! You guys sound like the moose in Brother Bear lol
Happy holy days 🌌🧠♾🖖🚀
The intro stick in my head godaam lmao 🤣🤣😭😭
Perfect!
Thanks B&B!
I also have to sleep with the pelvic tilt, pillow under knees or feet up and a gabapentin
What do you do if your knee gets swollen when you do the workout?
Hey fellas
Could you elaborate more on what to when pain fully goes away
Should an individual return to playing sports, lifting wright etc
Currently dealing with this but can barely walk without having to stop it's kinda scary
I guess if there is a silver lining, it’s that I’m armed with the knowledge & experiences of the past.
One question for B and B
Do you both have any spinal problem with disc bulge ? If the answer is NO
Then you two not understand how the pains is
The area where my lowest vertebrae meet my sacrum has been hurting all week.
Hello my best how to recover from L4-L5 disc bulge. I have pain what shall I do ? I love calisthenics but I have pain in low back
Is this safe along with L5-S1 spondylolthesis grade 2 and moderate bilateral neuroframinal stenoses?
Hey Bob and Brad , I've been watching your videos for a long time . Great info . Can you guys do a video on explaining DISH and especially Thoracic Dish ? !! And it's treatments ? And can one still weightlifting after a diagnosis of thoracic Dish ? Thanks
What if lower back buldje disc and lower spondylosis together
Question what do I do I have disc bulge at L2 L3 L4 and I have spondylolisthesis grade 1 at L5 S1
Hi Guys,
It has been 7 months with prolapse L5-S1 and pain still down on my leg, does not come up to buttocks,
Stretching does not help, swimming and walking almost every day.
What to do? I want to be normal...no more sciatic pain.
Thanks you for your help.
You have to see physical therapy, then you have to exercise at home too. That way you will recover.
Any different therapy for radiculopathy L5-S1? Pain is mostly left foot.
Sir I want to know about lumber lordosis
My low back paining me seriously L4 L5 I take a lot of pain medicine but it still paining please help me am 18 years old
You guys are so helpful!! Thank you💞💞
Is this exercise just for pain going down the leg or for the herniated disc's as well?
And what do you do when lying on your stomach and extension doesn't help? Extension can actually make my back worse so I don't do much of it anymore. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
this really helps thnk you......wht if my hip gets really paiful when I turn my leg in to the sides (open and close) while im seating on the chair....or when I want to get off the car ...is it the same thing
My Xray says:
The LS - S1 disc space appear mildly reduced.
How long till I get normal again?
It varies from person to person and severity to severity. Keep up the exercises and you should start noticing changes within 4-6 weeks. Best of luck!
Hi Bob and Brad, i have the disc problems you describe but doing these exersizes makes my back worse. Why?
It does take a while. Sometimes it helps to take an anti-inflammatory tab before doing excercises. I took about 6 weeks before improving.
will these exercises help with foot drop ???
