Hi from Mexico! Glad you liked it! This performance is considered one of the bests of history lol. José José himself said he could never sang El Triste like this again. It was his best performance. This was a contest and he won 3rd place. Judges said he didn't won because it wasn't a "Best performance" contest, but a "Best song" contest. He was representing Mexico with Angelica María and Marco Antonio Muñiz (the 2 people camera man focused) who were already big and important singers in Mexico, and noboby knew José José at all, that's why they look really impressed. About the song, the composer is Roberto Cantoral and he wrote it in a plane when he was traveling to his mother's funeral, so it was for her.
As a Mexican whenever i see a foreigner reacting to jose Jose and loving it and praising his voice it makes me happy to know that music doesn't have barriers at all and can be enjoyed by anyone 🔥🔥🔥
This is a historical moment in Latin American music history, in Mexican music history. This is the beginning of Jose Jose's singing career, he is not yet a music star. He is competing at the 1970 Latin America music festival OTI, for which every country sent a song and singer to represent them. At the end of the video you can see some well known Mexican celebrities ( Angélica María, Marco Antonio Muñiz) in reacting in awe to his performance.
Just about every song Jose Jose sings is a work of art and his voice and way of interpreting is the main musical instrument. You should buy some of his records and put under the microscope. I was shocked at how many songs he had that I had never heard because they were not on radio back then. The only way to appreciate him is buy listening to his records. Your reaction is worth a lot, some people don't have the patience to listen the way you did; you listened twice. Like a high action movie, it demands to be seen again to focus on the details. Good Reaction!!!
Listen a Mexican woman singer her name is YURI and the name of the two most famous songs are "maldita primavera" and "detrás de mi ventana" she have a wonderful voice.
Amazing reaction. In México we love Frank Sinatra, he meet José José. I don't speak English but please react to "Una Mañana" another José José performance.
This is a much better translation that sounds more natural in English: How sad it was to say 'farewell' when we adored each other most even the swallow emigrated foreseeing the end How sad looks everything without you the seas are leaving the beaches and the colors are turning grey everything is loneliness now (in Spanish it says 'today' but the meaning of the author stays with either word) I don’t know whether I’ll see you again I don’t know what’ll happen to my life without the blue star of your being which doesn’t shed its light on me anymore I want to relish my pain today (you can even say delight, but the literal translation from Spanish is 'savour') I’m not asking for compassion nor pity the story of this love has been written for eternity How sad say everyone that I am that I am always speaking of you they don’t know that thinking of your love, of your love (is how) I’ve been able to live, I’ve been able to live
He was a great admirer of Sinatra (especially his phrasing). I suggest other songs by Jose Jose: "Amar y Querer," "Almohada," and "Si Me Dejas Ahora." His big cross-over hit in the U.S. in the late 1960s was called "La Nave del Olvido." Others have tried to copy him but there is only one Jose Jose. Sinatra wanted to collaborate with him but Jose Jose's record company didn't let it happen, unfortunately.
Jose Jose did want to record an album with Sinatra but Jose Jose’s record label didn’t allowed it. A shame that what a legendary duet they’d have been.
EL triste (The sad one) is a beautiful song. In the public was Marco Antonio Muñiz, another singer and he was atonished by José José great voice. He make very long notes while singing and had a beautiful voice. React to Solo tu (Only you) by José José, anoche beautiful song
Nice reaction! You felt the strong and sensibility of his voice, of his amaizing performance and the great song, powerful song! Saludos desde CDMX (Ciudad de México)
Damn it!!! The secret is out... You now know Jose Jose. The reason you never heard of him is 1. You're not Mexican. 2. You did not grow up with Mexicans or in the Hispanic community. Jose Jose, Juan Gabriel, Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, Javier Solis and many other more. They only sang to us and they were our best kept secrets because this singers were passed down from generation to generation with the Mexican/Hispanic community only. Now with the internet and social media they can now sing to the entire world. I'm really glad you liked what we grew up listening all our lives. 😊💗🇺🇸🇲🇽
I liked your reaction 👍🏼 but above all your humility as a human being by putting your screen smaller than the singer's 👍🏼 that shows that you are a respectful / educated person and without any judgment and that is why I subscribe to your channel 👏🏻👏🏻👏 🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏼💪🏻👏🏻👍🏼👌🏼✌🏻
I saw recently a list of best singers in spanish language of all times and he is ranked number 5,. One of the best. Besides I read that this song was selected in Hollywood as the most beatiful song.
Jose Jose is THE Frank Sinatra of Mexico and I would even dare say of most of latin america. They of course are different but they are regarded in the same manner by their corresponding countries. Other great hits are "La Almohada," and "Lo pasado, pasado." He recently passed away in 2019 but if you want to hear his Colombian son, Manuel Jose, sings almost, if not like him (btw he isn't legally considered his son because of family feud but the guy looks and sings like him.) Look him up, he was in Yo me llamo (Colombian singing/imitating competition) and sang "El Triste" as well. Another that I love by him is "Lo pasado, pasado - Manuel Jose- Yo me llamo." Even the judges think he sounds like Jose Jose and hint at him being his son. On another note, I highly recommend another titan (who recently passed away too) Juan Gabriel. Look up "Hasta que te conoci- instituto nacional de bellas artes" or "Juan Gabriel- Amor Eterno- Instituto de Bellas Artes." He sang his own songs and composed over 1000+ songs for him and other singers.
I agree. I posted a different translation and made a few changes while being transparent about it. Translations are not meant to be literal most of the time. It's the message of the author in the source language that needs to convey its purpose while sounding natural in the target language.
The translation is a little off I can tell it was translated by a person whose English is not 100 percent there, that being said its almost perfect but a little context can be lost even if only 3 percent is off.
Best reaction /comments for this song, thank you! !!! Translation not accurate "today I want to SAVOR my pain" instead of "today I want to ENJOY my pain". Check out (ya lo pasado pasado) I'm sure you will like it. Thanks.
Really great reaction I'm glad you really got I to the song to understand the lyrics+ the tones in voice everything really enjoy it !! Can you react to another song Amor eterno- rocio durcal New subscriber
Hope you continue reacting to Jose José. There are more impressive songs by him that are more impressive than this one imo. His voice had an incomparable versatility and he was able to use every single vocal resource known by professional singers in a very natural way. React to New York New York by Jose José for example.

We are very proud of our singer. And Jose Jose is one of them. His wonderful voice.

This song is the one song everyone in Mexico drinks tequila with best friend after a break up
Mexican proud José José el príncipe de la canción romántica
Hi! I love his songs "Vive", "Del altar a la tumba", "La nave del olvido", "Almohada" and "Preso".
Uff La nave del olvido, ni se diga esa grandesa.
@@mosando es preciosa
Vive y de altar a la tumba es mejor opción para analizar, debido a su dificultad interpretativa
AMAZING!
Amazing OMG.😍 love great reaction
This sh!t Is amazing
Bravooooo!
This is a much better translation that sounds more natural in English:
How sad it was to say 'farewell'
when we adored each other most
even the swallow emigrated
foreseeing the end
How sad looks everything without you
the seas are leaving the beaches
and the colors are turning grey
everything is loneliness now (in Spanish it says 'today' but the meaning of the author stays with either word)
I don’t know whether I’ll see you again
I don’t know what’ll happen to my life
without the blue star of your being
which doesn’t shed its light on me anymore
I want to relish my pain today (you can even say delight, but the literal translation from Spanish is 'savour')
I’m not asking for compassion nor pity
the story of this love has been written
for eternity
How sad say everyone that I am
that I am always speaking of you
they don’t know that thinking of your love, of your love
(is how) I’ve been able to live, I’ve been able to live
Wow! Gisela is really a translation that fits perfectly to the melody of the song. I congratulate you !!
Creo que queda mejor enjoy my pain, aunque no sea tan parecida al significado original. pero buena traducción.
@@dovlok4816 "Savor" my pain
@@ephrentinoco3224 Es que eso dice la canción, "hoy quiero saborear mi dolor", o sea que sí, saborear my pain.

LOL !!! CRIES IN SPANISH !! HA HA HA !!
Next time. Just close your eyes. Dont read the lyrics, you get distracted just as if you were reading comments while listening to the song.
