Thanks so much for having me on guys! It was so fun and wonderful to talk to the people who literally wrote the book on frugality! America's Cheapest Family helped me start my journey! I'm happy to answer any questions!

Budget Girl I'm so proud of ya! Huge Aldi lover myself! ....... was shopping there prior to marriage, (almost 27 years now! ) my family shopped Aldi growing up....... haha we do live close to Batavia IL. My sister was so happy when they expanded to GA, where she now lives. I have three kids, my oldest son is in his senior yr of collage (no debt so far!) and planning for grad/doctorate education now. Lots of scholarships, awards, and grant apps..... well he is also thrifty and frugal, and a hard worker. Aldi and Walmart are his stores and super close to campus! Haha he is an Eagle Scout, and had shared/taught his many patrols he led, and younger peers the meal planning and savings you also use. I so struggle with my younger kids! Haha they are young teens, a girl and another boy... (and I fear they are both too lazy.) Do you have any suggestions on some budgeting and fiscal tips, cooking, or resources that may help and interest teens?

Steve and Annette My husband and I have been utilizing all your tips, tricks, advice for many, many years. I remember nine yrs ago, when I first read, "Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half". Before reading your book, we read "Tightwad Gazette, way back in 2000. Just so you know, my hubby and I paid off our mortgage in 7 yrs. We have no mortgage, no car payments, no c.c bills of any sort. We've been for years saving and saving. We both can retire much earlier if we want. Financial freedom is amazing! The only thing we weren't prepared for is some of the jealousy. Some of our friends and family were very supportive and happy for us. But we also learned fast that some were not so happy and seemed jealous. We've been told the phrase, "must be nice", so many times. Or that we were very "lucky". Those phrases get under my skin. My husband and I worked our bottoms off making extra payments to throw at our mortgage. We reset our budget, trimmed it down, made calls to get lower quotes, shopped around for the better deal. We realized what was truly important, what was a need versus a want. When friends of ours were taking long fancy vacations, buying bigger better cars, buying bigger houses, we were paying off our mortgage. The truth be known, we never felt deprived. I cooked all meals from scratch, which family loved. I meal prepped every Sunday, cut our bills in half, went without the not important wants, stopped all unnecessary spending, made do, wore it out, used it up. Just basic common sense with money. When we felt like we weren't paying things off quick enough for our liking, my husband and I both worked small side jobs, as well as our regular full time jobs to help pay things off quicker. It wasn't luck it was pure hard work. I've been subbed to budget girl for a long time and I'm so proud of her accomplishments. I love seeing young people who use common sense with money.

9 Lives... That is wonderful! Golly! You would think friends and family would be inspired to do the same. Folks would be surprised what they could pay off by completely cutting out the Starbucks, eating out, online shopping, etc. I know a couple who did just that and paid off their car two years early. I firmly believe cooking from scratch...families stopping to all eat at the table for a home cooked meal is a lost art. I've learned so much from folks like these. With UA-cam....I watch Kate Kaden (she is wonderful with her videos on how to live frugally) I also follow Living On A Dime (love that family), Centsible Living with Money Mom (she is precious) and Budget Girl.(also precious). Have a blessed day.

Hey 9! I'm sorry to hear your friends and family weren't supportive of your amazing accomplishments! Hopefully one day they will instead ask you how you did it with a willingness to learn instead of a jealous heart. Stay strong.

@@gabrielle8689 Thank you for the kind words. Yes, one would think. It's ok. I honestly believe it makes them think about their own actual finances. Perhaps it's guilt on their part? They can easily do the same thing. There's no magic formula on getting on a budget and being smarter about how you handle money. Yes, cutting out Starbucks will not only be healthier but will save so much money. I'll check out Money Mom and Kate Kaden. I just subbed to the both of them.

@@BudgetGirl Thank you. Luckily I do have most of my family happy and supportive. Every family has that one or two relatives who are negative Nancy's lol. These are the same family members who try to keep up with the Joneses. One day maybe they'll learn that the Joneses dont even pay attention to them.

Love you guys! What would you suggest to purchase for quick and easy meals/snacks (college student without a kitchen sadly)? I have no time to eat a real meal in between class and work twice a week and I'm just not sure what to get that I can eat very quickly.

Charity, this blog could get you started. moneysmartfamily.com/blog/cheap-snacks-kids/ Remember that stores sell bagged salads and rotisserie chickens. I assume you have a microwave and a refrigerator. There's plenty you can do to eat healthy!

Thanks for sharing this video Steve & Annette. I am going to go subscribe to Budget Girl. It sounds like she has lot of helpful tips around organizing and meal planning. I am so dismayed to see a few people making negative comments here about the appearance of others. I encourage people to leave positive and helpful comments, or not to comment at all.
