      Honda needs to put the crf300l engine in the crf450rl chassis and make it a RL model. You have to sink 2 grand in a crf300L on top of it's actual close to $7k price to bring it up to US rider standards.

    I have a 2019 450L. 5,500 miles strong now. It's about as perfect as a road going dual sport can be. Very easy to change oil, and if you aren't racing it (most of us aren't), people have successfully pushed intervals to 1,000-1,200 mi. Most important to me, it can maintain 75mph in all hill conditions on the highway to actually reach your destination, unlike most 250-300cc class bikes that lose steam when the inclines get too great. Gearing makes fuel economy suffer at any speeds greater than that, but it'll happily do 80+ and still feels stable.

    • @SnickterP
      @SnickterP 2 роки тому +2

      @@jasonparduhn2106 with the stock 2 gal tank, I can get about 100 miles from it if I don’t do much hard acceleration and keep speeds below, say, 68 mph on the highway. If I cruise with speeds above 70, FE takes a hit and might be more like 80 miles to the tank. So 40-50mpgs depending on how you ride it.

    The 450 died a quick death in Europe. Too expensive and ridiculous service intervals. People ran a mile from it and I hope Honda learns their lesson. Please Honda give us a 450 rally with a 20l tank capacity at least and reasonable service intervals and I guarantee you'll sell shiploads.

    Get lowering links for the rear as it will lower it by an inch + then lower the forks to compensate for the rear..If you plan on cutting some foam out of the seat, get rid of the stock seat and buy a Seat Concepts and have them customize it for your height. I'm 5'6 and all I did was the lowering links and it's perfect. Seat is stock for me however I'm fine with being on my tip toes or leaning to one side and flat footing it.

    There are plenty of 2019 450L's out there with over 20k miles on them, never adjusted the valves or every had problems. Oil changes are more normal at 1k miles, 600 is suggested if u are racing it{....why lol?} The 1800 valve check is the initial 1800 miles, not every. There isnt any other Japanese reliability big bore dual sport out there with a race chassis and suspension. If u are complaining about the fuel range, or it being uncomfortable to ride long distance then get a KLR that was intended for your riding situation. If you are whining that it sucks on single track, you also bought the wrong bike cuz it wasnt built for that or any other 450 for that matter. In OEM trim its only 4hp down from a KTM 500 but there isnt a KTM alive with 20k miles on an original engine. Plated desert riding and western USA this bike really shines.

    I currently have a 2006 WR250F (250lbs) and 2017 Africa Twin (500lbs). It seems like any real off road bike is going to have low maintenance interval because they are derived from off road race bikes. I'm 6ft1 and 215lbs. I don't think a CRF300L will have the power and suspension for me to regularly jump crests/whoops, ride over fallen trees, big rocks, go up and down steep rocky/gravel/dirt staircases, drop off 1-3 foot high ledges, etc. The CRF300L is cheaper but will need $1500 suspension upgrade and still be severely underpowered = $7500. The CRF450RL needs a bigger gas tank, flywheel weight and more often oil changes = $10,500. CRF300 is out of stock everywhere. I can buy a CRF450RL new in town today. KTM and Husky would handle/feel better but cost even more and be finnicky/fragile = $12,000. Seems like CRF450RL is the only real option for value/performance/reliability/durability on the market for a street legal dirt bike

    One more thing not mentioned: The 300L is so hard to get here in the PNW, that the dealers mark them way up when they finally get them. Add the suspension mods needed, against the fact that there are good deals to be had on 450RLs, and they are a lot closer in price. Either pay the dealers the scarcity mark-up (300L) or pay for component awesomeness (450RL). You can see the cost saving measures Honda took on the 300L, compared to the almost no-expense-spared street- legal race bike.

I'm just wondering how many extra horse power does the 23-RL has to the older L model. adding a new pipe is a must, not only for power and sounds bader. it's lighter but you lose 10 miles a gallon. on my X I use to get 37 to the Gal now I get 27. that means a lot with a 2 galoon tank.

I do have a sneaky feeling I'll get in a lot of trouble though lol as the possibilities are endless when it comes to how much of your inner hooligan that you can bring out on the street with a motarded 450 lol! Oh yeah, you guys were robbed in the performance department BIG TIME on this bike. It's wild how different things are from one country to the next on bikes and how they might be different from little lighting pieces here and there all the way to massive performance differences.
      Speaking of riding off-road. Dumb question but do they have off-road trailheads / parks etc for you guys to enjoy or not really? Thankfully where I'm at in southeast Tennessee, we've got quite a few trailheads etc to enjoy but some of them have been disappearing more and more over the years.

      @@HondaProKevin I had a KTM 690 supermoto a few years ago, wish I'd kept it! There are a very few trail parks in the UK, but it's not something we have much of here. Too many people moaning about noise, pollution etc. There are a few MX practice tracks, but they hv restrictions on opening for the same reasons & you really need to be a hard core crosser to use them. You can go trail riding, but only on authorised paths and most of them are either further north in England than where I live, or to the west (and in Wales) or in the south west - i.e. areas with less population density. We don't have the land mass to have wide open areas like the 'boonies' in the US & there's almost always a landowner involved too. A lot of trail riding paths have been lost, as those that don't ride think all bikers are hooligans and get protests up, which local council pencil necks just love.

      One major difference perhaps is the 6th gear. Quite a bit done to reduce vibration and road noise also . But by far the biggest benefit of the RL is to those that live in places where a motorcycle has to have been built to ride on the highway or else forget getting it plated. My circumstances have changed so I stopped by my local Honda dealership here in Shreveport Louisiana today. I walk in the door and there sits a used 650 dinosaur with only 700 miles on it. It was a major distraction from what I dropped in to look at. Liquid Cooling. I'm all about that now. So I walk past the 650 air-cooled. What greeted me next was this CRF450RL. I reach over to lift it off the side stand. I thought Good God this thing is tall. The seat looks like a canvas-covered fence rail. I'm looking it over. sales chick walks up and said, "That's You!" Don't be so presumptuous lady, (I was thinking) and then all the superfluous looking crap on the side of the engine caught my eye. I have no idea what all that crap is, but I suppose it has something to do with government regs n such. I thought this stuff is perfect for catching dirt and grime and making cleaning a PITA. I guess I'm expecting too much. All I want are good looks, liquid cooling, and low end torque out the wazoo. I will continue looking around to see what motorcycle tech has to offer nowadays. The old XR650 is truly such a dinosaur they really need to update that to something more like the CRF 300L. But instead of a more powerful 300L l they did this motocrosser base bike. The very high price and the ridiculously short oil change intervals make this very limited appeal bike for most dual sporters, as great as it is. 400 to 500cc engine size to me is the perfect on\off road balance. Yes Honda has the CB500X but it's based on a much heavier road twin at 435 lbs. I think most dual sporters are not interested in a twin cylinder, they are just so much heavier. So yeah I think most people looking for a 450 dual sport just wish the 300L had a bigger engine. And that is not what the 450L is at this point!

    prediction 2023 (or maybe 24) Honda will punch it out to a 500....not because it needs it but just to get folks to trade up to a new bike ....a lot of guys just can't stand to have an "old" generation of a model. This has been a recurring tactic by various manufacturers with various model runs over the years ....youngsters would not even remember a number of things like the fact the KLR started as a 500 then a 600 until finally maxing the platform at 650. Same with Honda's big aircooled XR line which started out long long ago as a 500 then went to 600 and finally muck like the KLR maxed at 650. More recently we see the Honda CRF250 punched to 300 ...it is an old sales tactic and not limited to Japanese companies either. ...KTM loves to keep bumping displacement like they have done with many models including as of late the 790 which they wasted no time bumping to an 890 and way before that model they took the 990 to 1090 and then 1190 and then 1290! Even the current 690 I believe started as a 500? maybe 540? and they just kept bumping it....actually when they first named it 690 it was I think only 654cc and didn't actually become a 690 until more recent model years. Also consider that THOUGH the Honda CRF450 RL LOOKS like they simply put lights on the motocross racer? NOT TRUE....Honda actually had to re engineer the cases to accommodate a 6 speed.....So IF anything needed changed to allow future bump in displacement I am pretty sure they would have factored that in....The KTM 500 EXC used to come as a 450 also but I guess people opted more often for bigger is better....Honda's overwhelming main competition is absolutely the 500exc....so tell me any reason at all Honda would not be tempted to bump the 450? I'm betting within the next two model years....then the used 450s will come pouring into the market and maybe I will pounce on one! LOL

    The 450 is still a dual sport, and isn’t great on road and is horrible at any low speed off road use. You need to immediately drop thousands on upgrades with the 450, then there are the very short intervals. Better off getting something far more dirt focused if you go that route.
