Normal people don't recognize how serious this is. Just try not to break your car in the meantime 😂

Dont you worry .. once they pay the cyber-ransom, they will pass down the bill to their customers.
I would stay away from these dealerships for at least 20 years.

At a body shop in boulder. We can't get parts/invoices from dealerships to repair our cars. A lot of our work has come to a halt. "The day the dealerships stood still"

It's pretty crazy at our collision shop too. Most customers are now realizing how these systems are tied together and are understanding. Some, not much. Our service writers/estimators are doing an awesome job. We are doing what we can to get cars out the door in timely manner. There will definitely be a backlog of parts getting to us and plenty of upset people. Gotta feel for parts departments attempting to keep parts moving in our direction. It's a major incident even if it is for just a week. It will be interesting to see what changes, if anything, from this attack. Just goes to show how weak these systems are.

This isn't helping solve the issue of transparency, it's making matters worse. Dealerships are some of the largest employers in communities and it will have a ripple effect the longer this goes on. This impacts not only dealership employees, but also of those servicing dealerships.

How in the world did we ever make it in the past? How were cars sold back in the day. This is so horrible😂

With software and chips in every car, you have to wonder if hackers can mess with people's personal vehicles. Thieves are already using devices that enable car entry without breaking a window or tampering with a door lock. And EVs are all electronically controlled. Even steering columns in today's cars are not actually connected to the turning mechanisms (like rack & pinion steering). Is there a way to harden your car? Keep it from being compromised?

Yeah, it’s bad. I’m at a dealer on the other side of the country. It’s catastrophic. We’ve been doing math with pen and paper, writing down everything the old fashioned way. But it’s not good. It slows the customer experience down to a crawl. And also makes paying employees for the work they did very hard. I’ve worked very hard in a shop with no AC this week during the heat wave. I’d be surprised if I got paid for half of the work I did.

Let's face the facts the "customer experience" that came to a crawl you speak of was never a speedy pleasent process. 😂

@@TechSyndicate83 The only thing I’m not upset about is not having to deal with Service Edge. It used to be fairly ok. But they changed it for reasons that practical people can’t fathom. It’s been very inefficient and time consuming since then. If I don’t have to deal with CDK and their bad product for a few days, I’m just gonna consider that a positive unintended consequence.

this how I feel. I work in parts and majority of my pay is based on labor bonuses. well if service isn't producing because of this. Im fucked.
