I'm in the middle of listening to nine Anathema albums in a row, from Eternity through The Optimist. Just finished this song and had to jump on UA-cam. It is *exceedingly rare* that a song can bring me to a tear, but that's what this did.
    Absolutely remarkable.

I wanted to play this for my sister-in-law as she was dying from her second bout of cancer. I wanted to give her hope of something else. She died before I could. 42 years young.

I will never tire of Anathema as their music truly moves you, in just the right and meaningful way. A very underrated band to say the least, at least here in the US where everything is processed, including most of our so called Music.

This music helped me a lot in a particular time of my life when I had to deal with loss, pain and sadness. I heard this song over and over again. It gave me inner peace and made me think that our life is a miracle and that after our departure in this physical form it will continue in its true essence. Thank u, Anathema

When I was going to view my mom as she had suddenly passed. I wanted this moment to be gentle yah know like almost kind in a way. I put this song in my ears and walked into her room. Surreal. This jam reminds me of my moms life. Beautiful. Thank you so much anathema as this song for me is internal.

this is the thing, where we find ourselfs coming back over and over, taking a listen, switching off the outside, not just because of the tune, the melodies or the mystery coming with, no, it's the words, where we find solace for those we love, those, who slipped, slipping and falling into a light, not misery, dissolving in the air, not rotting, and we finally know that they're in peace

The abilities of the brain are truly amazing. It is even more amazing to recognize the way it all developed, rather than succumbing to the infantile explanation of a tinkering sky-genie. A dying brain can concoct such phenomenal experiences upon its revival, despite the difficulty inherent in such an challenge. Not only does it have to recover from the physical symptoms of dying but it must also piece together the stream of consciousness from what it didn't experience. The result is a more creative example of corrupted data.

It's not the brain that makes that experience, it's the disolving of the illusion of the separate self. It's as if a manifested wave, when it's returning to the ocean, is still able to both look out from its own perspective, and see its own origin, wich is the ocean itself.

    din ayırt etmeksizin.
    sen hepimizin allahısın.

    • @ferox965
      @ferox965 3 роки тому

@@davidderoux7552 Not even close. The U2 song is a cute pop ballad that could be played at high school dances (it certainly was at mine back in the day). It also follows a strict pop formula. That formula is the chord sequence of I, V, vi, IV. You can find this in songs like
      When I Come Around
      She Will Be Loved
      You're Beautiful
Can You Feel the Love Tonight
      Take Me Home Country Road
      And a zillion others.
Will you find Internal Landscapes at a dance? Or hit radio? Nope. Rhythmic pattern too complex. Song is too dark. Would kill the atmosphere. It demands attention and it's not a song you can just flip on and putter around the house. Song isn't designed to be a hit. It's designed to express...the experience isn't objective, it's subjective. And the subject matter...
The subject matter of this song is something that actually happened to me. The song is about death. I died in a 2 month coma caused by a surgical mishap (ulcerative colitis can kill) and was revived. So the subject matter of this tune not only hit me musically (been a working musician for almost 40 years) but emotionally too. Pretty heavily actually. I may piss you off a bit here, but I'm never considered U2 nothing but a successful pop band...not much depth. Goes as far as you would expect a pop band to (and it's nothing political...I happen to agree with their politics, but music is more important).
As far as things that I consider having depth, here are some examples for me.
Beauty of Falling Leaves by YOB
A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
I'll Love You More than You'll Ever Know Gary Moore's cover
      Kindertotenlieder by Mahler
Lovelorn Crime, Drapery Falls, Isolation Years by Opeth
