I don't think it works very often. I mainly drive mine on the highway/Interstate. Never noticed it actually working. I know that you aren't supposed to notice it working, but I would have noticed it by now, after 1 1/2 years...
Drive a 2013 Black Diamond Edition. 226k. Runs like a champ. Best truck. It’s like a jeep or like a suburban for long distance and like a truck. All bells and whistles.
@@garagedenali not necessarily - it was more victim of reducing the quantity of models GM overall was offering. Actually the year (& the two prior to that) it was the #1 vehicle for loyalty; as in, I own a Brand/Model & I want to buy the same vehicle, just newer. The problem was, as GM was trying to consolidate models & with the removals of brands like Pontiac & Oldsmobile - the idea was that the avalanche was directly competing with another GM truck (almost identical twin Cady Escalade). They thought that the two vehicles' target-market was too close. Somebody that wanted a truck 1st, general purpose vehicle 2nd - would just buy a Silverado. But for somebody that wanted a great, smooth-ride, kinda "fancier than a truck" general purpose first, & the utility of a truck 2nd - Avalanche/Escalade. & the Escalade won the coin toss.
Money, they were just rebuilding after the bailouts and it basically came down to production costs. Demand wasn't as high and choices had to be made. I wish they'd reintroduce but if you notice the new Colorados are very Avi like.
Josh Paredes Z is an RPO (Regular Production Option) code and Z71 was for the GM off road package, first offered on the 1987GM trucks. Among other things it consisted of off-road tires, an automatically locking rear differential, skid plates, and Z71 badges. That's where the now famous "Z28" designation came from on the Camero. It was the performance package designation.
fctuber yea but I ment if the z on the ltz if it actually had a word that started with a z , I just read the comment above I have never heard of the zero gravity thing before

Slick looking truck. It's basically a Tahoe but pick up. I been wanting to get one of these but there too damn expensive. The front headlights and grill look aggressive and badass. How is the transmission treating you at 200k miles? Occasional fluid and filter change shouldn't leave you a problem.
I drive a 2008 Avalanche. It gets about 13 miles to the gallon and I'm at the gas station every other day pretty much. Takes about $60-70 to full her up, so as a college student that drives a lot, yeah she's a gas guzzler
You Do NOT have to take the glass out. It was designed that way! You can haul whatever you can, with the bed covers in place, and the tailgate closed and midgate down. in pouring rain or a blizzard. It will not get wet! And it comes base eith a 5.3 liter (327) engine, not a 5.7 liter. I love mine, and wouldnt trade it for ANYTHING else! Too bad GM decided to stop producing the Avanche. And it is based on the Surburban. Not the Silverado or Taho. It is classified as an SUV. Not a pickup. Thank you!
I have the avalanche and will say avalanche but because mine is loaded heated seats and folding heated mirrors, gas pedal adjustment. They have thought of everything but what separates it from any other pick up is the folding of the seats to give a full covered bed. So you can go buy full sheets of whatever and keep it dry. I am an elevator mechanic and don't really have to travel with that much stuff daily but when I am doing a project or moving the bed makes all the difference.
Need to tow more than 7000 lbs, get the Ford. Ford gets better fuel economy. Frequently haul construction material, get the Ford. Avalanche has a slightly nicer interior except the top trim F-150s, which are very expensive. Plan on using the back seat frequently, get the Avalanche. More concerned about a quiet comfortable ride, get the Avalanche.
I've got a 2008 ltz 125000 on it. I've towed a 4000 lb trailer from the east coast to west coast. And a Chevy Equinox from west coast to east coast. No problems at all. 5.3 V8. Great engine.
Depends on how well it was maintained before you. William h how did it do on trans temp? Contemplating a our of state trip soon. Also 10$ on oil every couple of months isnt that big a deal for oil consumption
@@assantoyo1 never had an issue with oil consumption. I've got an oil change every 5,000 miles or so. I've done some preventative maintenance on the engine. Just had to change a belt. But besides that, everything has been running very well. I was told by the mechanic that these engines will last "for ever" if you treat them right. In the words of the mechanic when I had it looked at, at 100k.."You're finally stating to break in the engine" haha
Hey man you said it had a 5.7, don't do that! Next video, make sure to remove the bright yellow air freshener as it's an eyesore! Also, it's not like a suburban, it is a suburban that's been cut down!
Love my Avalanche, just had the dealer replace my dash board twice because it keeps cracking for reasons I don't know. However dealer replace it for free. Apart from that great truck!
DUBcars411 that is the 2500 with the 8100 (8.1 ltr) Vortec (or the 496 ci) motor. It has no PCV that is replaceable. It also has a 195°F thermostat installed in the motor. "So what" you may ask, well at the temperatures the motor will see using a 195°F thermostat will allow the oil to vaporize and dump out of the port in the engine that is part of the positive crankcase vent located under the intake (where temps run highest) out through the catalytic converter and you will never see any blue smoke!. Installing a 180°F thermostat lowers the temp enough that the oil quits vaporizing and no longer dumps overboard! About a $15 fix if you change it yourself. Another "quick fix" but a little more costly for you would be to switch to Mobile 1 synthetic oil as it now has a protective additive that stops the vaporizing of the oil.
Snow's not an issue. I've gone through mountain roads fairly regularly. The only issue may be clearance as the front bumper' styling is kind of low to the ground, although it didn't cause any issues for me. The off-road package or an after-market would fix this. Obviously, tires make the biggest difference, I use studded.
I ran my Avalanche on Michelin all season passenger car tires in Northern Ontario Canada winters and never ever got stuck. Of course I can drive like few others but the 4auto feature is a marvelous option. Works when needed only.
It's November 2019 I bought 08 avalanche . My 08 Nissan Titan was totaled in an accident . The Titan had a 5.6 liter , the avalanche has a 5.3 liter . The Titan is 10 times better looking , better running , more power than the avalanche . I really loved and I do miss my Titan . My Titan was much better than the Avalanche ...
Funny thing, Canadian here and I had an 02 Avalanche and absolutely loved it. Purchased from my uncle in 2010 and driven from 128,000km until 2023 and 337,000km. never burned a drop of oil and changed it every 6,000km. the body rusted badly due to salted winter roads and scrapped it while the power train was still A1. Bought an 08 Titan with 270,000km and loved it too! Great truck, lots of power but terrible fuel mileage! Loved the way the rear seats folded up to increase back seat storage. Smashed it up in an accident in Toronto 2 months ago and now |I'm buying another Avalanche. 2013 LTZ Z71 with 145,000km black on black. I really love these trucks and you will too, if you ever own one!
@ 3:58 no dude not at all....i think anyone who knows Chevys or has had one knows that LTZ means fully loaded and Lt is base model...I've never even had a chevy and know that..but nice theory
Aluminum engine (2005-), exhaust manifold bolts popping off, knock sensors faulty due to poor design, lack of engine power, tailgate latch sticks, faulty electronics specifically under the seat. At least it starts. My advice, get a Toyota Tundra.
I'm not impressed with anything this guy is saying. It's not a mix of an SUV and a Truck. It's a Truck with a crew cab and only seats 5, just like a Civic. An SUV like the Suburban seats 8, and the Tahoe has pull up back seats for 7. Neither SUV has nearly the same potential for hauling things in the back like a truck bed does; even with the Avalanche's short bed. Likewise the truck bed isn't nearly as convenient for little things (such as groceries) as the trunk of an SUV. The extra weight from an SUV's roof makes them more prone to rolling too. Just because something shares a chassis doesn't mean they're the same. If that were the case, my Jeep Commander wouldn't be nearly as shitty as it is compared to the Cherokee. thanks

I thought these were really cool.when they came out, then in March of 2020, I became the owner of one! Love it!!! Loaded LT. White. Everything but cooled seats, 4x4, and 5.7 engine. Fantastic truck! Kyle previous truck was 1992 Ranger. I'm in heaven!!!
Best truck of all
Woah! I never knew that about the back seat.
Excellent review! Very well thought out and got all the history correct. I’m a huge enthusiast if the Avalanche.
The cylinder deactivation is what ruined the reputation of GM. If I bought a 2007-13 Avalanche, I would delete the AFM system entirely.
I don't think it works very often. I mainly drive mine on the highway/Interstate. Never noticed it actually working. I know that you aren't supposed to notice it working, but I would have noticed it by now, after 1 1/2 years...
I own a loaded White 2011 Avalanche Z71 even has a sun roof. Great truck for what it is.
Great review, I wanna get an avalanche for my first car
Update 2yrs later: I got a ford ranger instead
xPandqGaming__ Same
You'll be spending a lot on gas
Not good first vehicles bit if you have alot of $$$$$ go for it but don't say I didn't warn you, good luck!
Great trucks very reliable. If u can keep your foot off pedal gas isn't too bad
Did you get it yet??
Best Chevrolet truck ever made 👌
Drive a 2013 Black Diamond Edition. 226k. Runs like a champ. Best truck. It’s like a jeep or like a suburban for long distance and like a truck. All bells and whistles.
208,000 miles n still runs strong! The trick to high mileage? Keep clean oil in it! and run good gas!
Why did they quit making them? Seems like a great vehicle.
Low demand
@@jseski9209 They stop Esc pickup truck too, so coin toss didn't matter
Money, they were just rebuilding after the bailouts and it basically came down to production costs. Demand wasn't as high and choices had to be made. I wish they'd reintroduce but if you notice the new Colorados are very Avi like.
Low towing capacity
Ls means luxury sport and Lt is luxury touring now the Z I'm not sure if it stands for anything
Josh Paredes "Z" refers to the GM "zero gravity supsension" that came before GM's magneride system
It was the performance package designation.
fctuber yea but I ment if the z on the ltz if it actually had a word that started with a z , I just read the comment above I have never heard of the zero gravity thing before
Josh Paredes ya, I've never heard of that description either!
Josh Paredes lS cheap Version LT mid range LTZ(premiere) Whoah buddy can I get some of that cash?
For sure! I just uploaded a video about why it’s the best and cheapest over-landing video
I just bought the same truck LTZ SAME COLOR BLACK BLACK INTERIOR RUNS GREAT JUST HAS 3 small problems like gas tank strap mount rotted out and rear bump stop rotted out so need a small frame patch and 1 frame mount gone but I payed $4,500 and it’s worth every penny
vern white do 2012 Ltz have any issues do they have any major issues
Slick looking truck. It's basically a Tahoe but pick up. I been wanting to get one of these but there too damn expensive. The front headlights and grill look aggressive and badass. How is the transmission treating you at 200k miles? Occasional fluid and filter change shouldn't leave you a problem.
It’s a suburban frame with the back chopped off
I knew it! I need an avalanche!!!
Get one! You will LOVE it! I do!
don't need to fold rear window down to fold down the midgate
LS - luxury sport
Lt - luxury touring
Ltz - luxury touring zed
Z71 - off-road
Simple 🤷🏾♂️
Please review the 1st gen as well
Basically the exact same, just looks a little different...
@@pg1171 I have a first gen. They have similar features but the 2nd gen doesn't get the 8.1L option, nor does it have heated leather seats I believe.
@@th4bl4ckm4nthey’ve been having heated seats since 2002
I get mine tomorrow!!!! 😊😊😊 2011 Ltz!!! All black
Yep never offered with a 5.7 was either a 5.3 or a 6.0
Dont forget the 8.1.
I saw an Avalanche yesterday with F-150 mirrors on it
New 150 mirrors?
@@nilsonc93 yeah
@@jaedan14 I'll put them on my avalanche. 👍
@@nilsonc93 nice
I'm getting one of these. I thought of a challenger but I need something higher
I'm 6'2", and still use the running boards to get in...
I have an 04, love that fuckin thing.
History lesson from our boy
Which trim packages have the adjustable pedals? I need them since I'm so very short.
07 and up all models I believe
2007 & up ,I just baught my 2008 granite blue the best color ever,I'm excited 😊,sexy ass truck ,I love it.
Wrong about the z71 skid plates
Thanks for the video.
Would I be able to turn this into a welding rig? How's the load capacity?
6000
The bed is welded on the body.
Mine has an 11,700 lb towing capacity. May be able to convert the bed, but not sure.
Dont forget the 8.1l 3/4 ton.
The 2500 wasn't available in 2nd gen, sadly.
How is the car on gas? Is it a gas gussler? 2007 and or 2013 ver
I drive a 2008 Avalanche. It gets about 13 miles to the gallon and I'm at the gas station every other day pretty much. Takes about $60-70 to full her up, so as a college student that drives a lot, yeah she's a gas guzzler
Have a 2008 5.3L, had it for 5 years, I get 14.4 mpg average, always.
i have an 07 with brand new spark plugs i get about 15 mpg. also in college, takes about $40 a week at $2.40 for me
2007 to 2010 it had a four speed transmission but, 2011-2013 had a six speed transmission. So that kinda affects mpgs
Thank you!
Honest opinion take this truck or a v8 4runner?
Depends on what you're looking to do. What generation 4Runner? How long do you need it for? Towing?
A truck for towing a boat and a camper that will last you many years!
What is the weight of the boat and camper? I'd lean towards 4Runner if you're looking for something for many years
Another million miles no problem. lolol That's a good one.
I got the 2011 LTZ model :)
Yeah I just got one of these last month 140 k miles on it lol
My dad had 2 both over 300k km
Hi, which is better beetwen ford F150 and Avalanche?
Fernando Cordero Go with Avalanche
miguel 2005 thanks Miguel.
Lol I'm pretty sure hot wheels is a better brand than Ford. What a dumb question.
I'm looking to buy one with 160,000 miles but I'm nervous that it'll be a waste money..does anyone think it's a good or bad idea
These trucks are notorious for oil consumption. If that problem hasn't been addressed I'd avoid them
I've got a 2008 ltz 125000 on it. I've towed a 4000 lb trailer from the east coast to west coast. And a Chevy Equinox from west coast to east coast. No problems at all. 5.3 V8. Great engine.
@@garagedenali how would you correct the oil consumption problem before it arises
I thought it was a review as of the vehicle not all talk.
i love this truck my dad does not
Megacharzard10 Gameing why
My dad didn’t ether until he drove mine
Most people don't like the Avalanche till they drive it for a week or so, then most love it.
Hey man you said it had a 5.7, don't do that! Next video, make sure to remove the bright yellow air freshener as it's an eyesore! Also, it's not like a suburban, it is a suburban that's been cut down!
z71 comes with 18" not 17"
first gen Z71 had 17" tires and a 16" spare.
20 inch rims. 5.3...
I need one bad
Yo cómo quisiera una de estas camionetas. Pero no tengo lana. Y el gobierno roba mucho.😩
You lost me at 5.7 liter
I heard these had a bad oil consumption issue
DUBcars411 never had the problem with my 07 160000 miles
Jeff Same with mine, so far so good!
Love my Avalanche, just had the dealer replace my dash board twice because it keeps cracking for reasons I don't know. However dealer replace it for free. Apart from that great truck!
Bad Pcv valve ....comes as one part with valve cover .Videos
On UA-cam about it.
You have a dent in the passenger side above the rear tire
How does it do on snow and ice? I need to be able to run to work when the city says no one needs to be on the road.
With 4x4 and winter tires, I wouldn't think snow would be much of an issue
Spector103 as well as any 4x4, it has a low range transfer case and locking rear diff so I does pretty well
Snow's not an issue. I've gone through mountain roads fairly regularly. The only issue may be clearance as the front bumper' styling is kind of low to the ground, although it didn't cause any issues for me. The off-road package or an after-market would fix this. Obviously, tires make the biggest difference, I use studded.
I've seen a video oh here of an Avalanche 4X4 pulling an 18 wheeler up an icy hill...look it up...
I ran my Avalanche on Michelin all season passenger car tires in Northern Ontario Canada winters and never ever got stuck. Of course I can drive like few others but the 4auto feature is a marvelous option. Works when needed only.
5.7?! 5.3 or 6.0
5.3
Why not 04 to?
It's November 2019 I bought 08 avalanche . My 08 Nissan Titan was totaled in an accident . The Titan had a 5.6 liter , the avalanche has a 5.3 liter . The Titan is 10 times better looking , better running , more power than the avalanche . I really loved and I do miss my Titan . My Titan was much better than the Avalanche ...
Sound like u want a another Titan, 2020 to be exact
Where lowly at
Def not a million mile truck
Yep
@ 3:58 no dude not at all....i think anyone who knows Chevys or has had one knows that LTZ means fully loaded and Lt is base model...I've never even had a chevy and know that..but nice theory
Always be Smart LS is the base model
14mpg.
It doesn’t have a 5.7 , and doesn’t weigh 6000 pounds
02 Avalanche = 5.3 engine and 5800lbs. Z71
Aluminum engine (2005-), exhaust manifold bolts popping off, knock sensors faulty due to poor design, lack of engine power, tailgate latch sticks, faulty electronics specifically under the seat. At least it starts. My advice, get a Toyota Tundra.
5.3
There is no 5.7 engine
yes there is but just not in an Avalanche LOL
It all started back in 1908… un fucking necessary man I’m not watching.
If that were the case, my Jeep Commander wouldn't be nearly as shitty as it is compared to the Cherokee. thanks
I thought the same thing, this guys is BS
I fucking hate the Chevy avalanche
cool. have you ever owed one?
You probably don't like much, then why are you here ?
