Having made three AC30s, I can say that you gotta include the Vibe/Trem channel if you want the Normal and Top Boost channels to sound right. My first two were total disappointments, but when I made the third, with the Vibe/Trem channel, it was exactly what I wanted from the moment I plugged it in to my test speaker. Oh, it got some tweaks, but something about the way that Vibe/Trem channel loads the PI, or something the way it hits the power supply, or SOMETHING about it made the other channels sound right. It is also a shame Vox refuses to make a proper reissue.
Hey Brad, so those weird looking little grey cylinders with painted dot identifier markings must be capacitors. Is that right? if so what type of cap are they? In my AC30 they are polystyrene caps (DALLAS ERA same as in your Dallas Era vid)) . Cheers, Love the Videos & I appreciate the time you put into making them. 👍🤘
I've been a Marshall guy for years and came to AC30s late in life but I must say I really like them, they sound great. I'm also a firm believer in making old amps playable and reliable for the long term rather than a 'stuffed and mounted 'amp as some of these old amps become. Great to see you doing the job properly Brad and I agree with your comment that this amp is so beaten up your not in danger of devaluing it so there should be no complaints about what your doing. I can't wait to see the end result. Q. I might be way off the mark here but would the chassis survive a light sand blasting with fine grit or would that ruin it?
Alot of great work going on here Brad ,this amp is going to be really nice and well worth restoration ,that and it has my birth year so im a little Biased 🙃
Modern chromate plating of chassis is a natural blue-grey color to it, unlike the older yellow chromate. You CAN pay a bit extra and they can add dye to the plating to give somewhat the appearance of the older plating, but it’s not the same looks wise or quality. The yellow was phased out in the early 2000s with the introduction of the RoHS standards (the same thing that eliminated lead solder). Apparently the yellow chromate contained chromium-6, which is a known carcinogen, so it had to go. So in other words, this was one time companies weren’t cheaping out on us (the “new” plating cost significantly more than the older yellow chrome), rather big brother’s hand forced the change
@@BradsGuitarGarage awesome that you brought up the Erin Brokovich reference, as I wasn’t sure if yall would have heard of her on your side of the pond!
I wouldn’t save any of the original resistors or capacitors, vintage mojo right out the window! Not worth the chance of a customer return. Great video!
I'm glad the owner went for the rebuild, it is/will be an interesting watch. It would be awesome to see you do your take on an AC30!
Only 1 way to do a job The Right Way 👍 keep up the good work 👏 Champion 🏆
If it's bad it should go to the bin! Great work Brad, an amp, the owner can pass to his children!
Good lord man! Nice work
Always a great watch Brad
Wow a tabula rasa rebuild! Thanks Brad!

A better AC30 build sounds like a shucking good time! Cheers to you and Alex on a job well done (so far!). Korg is in shambles right now!
Shuck that oyster Brad! I hope we get to see the "new & improved" AC30 build & hear it too.
Love the lighting, video and audio quality! Very entertaining and informative as usual Brad!
I seem to recall that Crusty Schmoo was the house band at the Orient Hotel in Brisbane in the early 80s.
That sounds about right mate, even for the Oriental Hotel here in Springwood NSW!
Thanks for sharing Brad. ✌️✌️🙏🙏

Excellent spray noise at 13:39
Do it! Ground-up AC-30 project!
Hell yeah, Brad!

And shucketh we must
Lol
Cheers Brad from Canada
Hope you kept that dead fly. It was where the toanz came from.
An amp with a little badge saying "Serviced by Brad" would command a premium on resale 😊

That was what Erin Brokovich was all about. The hexavalent chromium passivation has now been replaced with trivalent passivation.

@@BradsGuitarGarage and the coal fired power stations spew it out
Is that so? I'll look that up.
Oh, wow, you're right.
