Hey good day Ed! You did a great job pal - especially for a first time with no line of sight. Pretty soon with expoerience you will be an expert. And those stumps and tripping hazards will be gone. Thanks for the great demo video. Cheers!
Thanks Gord. It’s going to get a lot of use! Now if you could just get a rock grinder, right? 🤣
Looks like fun Ed..
Great vid. I've had mine for a year now and really like it. Your right there is a learning curve. Thinking you may want to tighten your clutch a 1/2 turn on each fastener, it is too loose. There is a shear pin that is another level of safety too. I ended up getting an RV camera and mounted the camera under the grinder frame and that helps with visability. I like also engage the PTO at just above idle when the shaft is relatively level. then speed the throttle. Also found that rocks are not your friend and they will chip the carbide teeth. I pretty much grind no more than a couple inches below the grade no deeper. Also a hand held blower works great for blowing chips off the stump for visability and usually rake around the stump with a hard rake before i start just to get the obvious rocks away. Keep a 6 pack of extra teeth on hand. I rotate the upper teeth down to the lower position every now and again because the are used for cutting less. Enjoy! Steve
Great points! Thank you.
This is fantastic! A professional stump grinder is no different. Gotta take small passes. Look forward to seeing future videos with it.
Thank you!
Congratulations
I’ve had one for several years and it is by far my most profitable attachment.
Couple of pointers
1: check the teeth for tightness before and after each grind
2: prevent lateral movement of the grinder on the 3 point hitch
3: order 2 boxes of replacement teeth today.
They can’t be sharpened.
The folks @ woodland mills are the best of the best.
There’s a learning curve, soon you won’t need to keep watching the grinder by looking backwards
I use my rear view mirrors on my jd 2025
Thank you!
We love our WG24, also.
The dealer explained that our 21 hp kubota didn’t have the necessary ooomph, to spin that big cutter, so oh well…. We just had to go supersize it, and buy a bigger tractor.
😁
Just go slow with yours, and your wheel won’t completely stop spinning, so often.
As that other tractor-guy up North - says, “Cheers”
Ted in NJ.
Thanks, Ted in NJ!
Look forward to seeing more on the Grinder I’m sure you will learn some tips along the way
Great Video and thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Phil. There will be no shortage of stumps here!
Nice Ed. Looks very well built and like every attachment will take a bit and you’ll be a pro.
Thanks Bob. I'm looking forward to using it a lot!
Congrats on the awesome tool! That is nice! I also appreciated the Crocodile Dundee impression…😂👊
Ha! Thanks Mate!
That is a great attachment Ed, can’t wait to see you use it more.
Nice video. I'm looking at this SG myself. First video I see that follows the complete setup instruction. I saw one tractor operator who installed a camera somewhere within the 3ph so he could get a better view of the blade's location. He mounted the display to his hood using magnet. It worked pretty well. Based on the other videos I saw you were hitting the center of the blade too often which was causing it to jump. Like you said though, it's a learning experience. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Yes I’ve gotten much better at using the stump grinder. You might enjoy this video. Woodland Mills WG24 Stump Grinder in Action! MCG Video #214

Get yourself a rear view camera and put the camera on a magnet so you can placed it where needed.
I have found that slip clutch to be bounds ahead of a sheer pin. I know it's a pain to deal with, but not having to replace sheer pins all the time, great time saver. I love my WG24 and have used it quite a bit. Even make a little side money with it. Enjoy!
Thanks! I surely would not want to be changing sheer bolts!
It was a good unboxing and first use video. In my opinion and situation on 10 acres it was much more economical to rent a professional stump grinder ($275 per day) and do the 25 stumps I had to do. I see the tractor as being limited in sight as you explained and tedious to move the back and forth versus a self propelled rental unit. Now my chipper, best investment besides the tractor I made! I like to see non sponsored videos and you are paid to say something nice about equipment!
Thanks very much. I plan to grind stumps intermittently as I cut down trees, so a rental wouldn't really work for my plans. I'm sure it was nice to sue though! I love my chipper too!
I know this is 8 months, but just incase you see this. I would take off the quick hitch. It extends the grinder out too far. Also tighten your lower arm turn buckles as tight as you can get them. Otherwise you may damage your 3pt hitch. Great video btw.
Thanks for the tip!
I have this same unit now for a couple years and love it. It works great on my kioti ck3510se.
Congratulations! Definitely a learning curve, but if you tighten the side sway links, avoid large bites, work from far right to left, and learn to hear the sound it makes when you are in the sweet spot, you'll cut the time to do a stump that size down to a half hour or less including a stop to drag (or blow) the dirt off the remaining portion once you hit dirt. Visibility is an issue, and I look under my left shoulder (at the best cutting area 6-9 o'clock) to determine where I am relative to the stump, rather than over my right shoulder. Steering left and right as I move back and forth to move across the stump. I've taken out well over a hundred stumps large and small with it (finally quit counting...). Some definitely grind better than others. And I did get a backup camera too for when I am specifically grinding stumps as my project. For just clearing out troublesome small stumps when using my grapple to remove brush, The camera isnt' always mounted. But, practice, practice, practice.......... and try to avoid stones lol.
I'm sure it will get easier. Thanks much!
Does Woodland Mills make a knife sharpener? You should order one of those!😂
Haha. It was a mistake to grab that one off the shelf!
I love the Woodland Mills products. I have a chipper. You can also add casters to the bottom frame which is great to store and move when off the tractor.
I love my WM chipper too!
Congrats on the new toy Ed! 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the video. Setting up the slip clutch was very helpful for me. I don't have a grinder yet but in the near future definitely. Great job on your first stump.
Thank you. Good luck!
It's certainly a beaut Clark. While I cannot justify the price for my needs, I do appreciate the review.
Thanks much! :)
Nicely done Ed. For some reason, I seem to be experiencing deja vu! Seriously, congrats on the new purchase. As I suspected, I watched this video and thought "see, that's how it SHOULD be done"! 😉 Thanks for sharing your maiden voyage...very helpful and encouraging to see there is a learning curve. By the end, it looked like you had worked out a pretty good system. Look forward to seeing you hone your skills in the future (so I can learn how it's done! 👍). Still waiting for a daylight/weather window to try out mine. Kudos.
I’m sure we will learn from one another! Thanks, Chris.
Good afternoon Ed. Congratulations on your purchase. A stump grinder is on my list. Nice honest demo. I used my chipper shipping crate to make a land plane. Have a good one, Ben
Thanks Ben. I know I'll use it a lot!
I added a rear view cam to the PTO guard on my Mahindra 1635 and it was a game changer.
What kind of camera was thinking same thing
If you tighten the knob under the front of your seat you can slow down how fast it drops. That makes it easier to slowly lower heavy implements.
Good point. Thanks!
That’s real nice ED I’m sure you’ll get a lot of use out of that and looks like fun to
Thanks Jeff. I'm looking forward to lots of use!
Just bought mine should be here next week
Nice!
Thanks for the review, I am really needing to remove quite a few stumps around my property and this might just be the ticket..:)
I'm looking forward to lots of use!
I've got the same one and been happy with it. yeah, my first stump took me 25 minutes. Now I'm down to a 5 for a similar stump. Watch out for letting the blade tilt back too far if you feed too fast. That reduces the engaged coupling length and I once got it so short it destroyed the female end. Take your time, be patient and it will get the job done. Do need to replace the teeth occasionally - got mine from Gabdon Industries and they seem fine. Also you seemed to engage the slip clutch alot so maybe check it's not too loose.
Thank you. I'm hoping to slip clutch works better after some use, like new brake pads. I'll definitly check the adjustment though. Seems like it slipped too much.
Good Ed, Very Nice Steel Protective Cage that you can use for other welding projects 👍😇Yes You do Need To Sharpen That Knife Sir 🧐👍That is Truly An OUTSTANDING Canadian Forestry Product Maker👍👌💪😇Yes Follow the Direction and Specifications Is Very Safe Sir 🧐👍 Did you grease the PTO Shaft Sir 🤔OUTSTANDING FIELD DEMO TESTING SIR AND NICE TIPS TOO 👍🧐💪👌 Nice Puppy Dog 🧐😇👍Have Fun Sir Cheers 🍻
Thank you, David. Yes I was thinking a making a welding table from it!
I want a grinder!!!! I need a tractor first. Fun video was great watching
Thanks 👍
Morning Ed, were your ears ringing yesterday? I was talking to Meghan from Woodland Mills yesterday about you and the live Monday nights. Nice work on the grinder, I use mine lots. You'll get used to the visibility and feel of it, the uses for it are quite diverse. Ive used mine for chewing on scrub on our property as well. Take care have a great weekend! 🌴🚜
Haha! Thanks!
This looks like a very cool attachment. You provided some great information for anyone buying one of these. It was good to see it in action. Do you think installing a backing up camera would help with the visibility?
Thanks Joseph. I’ve seen a few people add cameras. It’s something to think about but I’m going to practice first to see if I can do it without.
I was setting my WG24 up today. The clutch slipped as it should. I then tightened to the called for specs on the clutch springs (1.26”). When I later was torquing the cutter teeth, the clutch slipped with the pressure from my torque wrench on the tooth bolt. I would think it should take more force than that to make it slip.
I’d let it break in then check again. I think they wear in like a new set of brake pads.
@@MyClutteredGarage Thanks
In the video your grinder was tilted backwards a good bit. Much better results when the wheel is plumb.
Not bad for your 1st grind.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you!
Hi Ed. Great video and nice information on adjusting the slip clutch. I am waiting for another Locking Pin Kit for the PTO from Woodland Mills to connect the PTO to the WG24. After only using the machine for less than two hours, the PTO shaft came off from the grinder and the locking pin was gone. Woodland Mills said the nut must have vibrated loose but I had it on tight. I asked what the torque should be and they did not have one specified. I'm wondering if the locking pin could break from too much torque, so the next pin will have a second nut attached and blue loctite. I have not seen where anyone else had this issue of the pin missing. I'm looking forward to getting the WG24 up and running again. Thanks for the video.
Thanks! It’s a great attachment. WM has terrific customer service too!
Going to get me one!!!! Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching. 👍
Great video, I also have a chipper. Maybe next time to be safer, run the exit stuff away from the house. Would hate to see a rock go flying..
One of my favorite attachments 👍
Quite the workout torquing all those bolts!
CONGRATULATIONS on the new implement.
It's on my short list... But like you, I have to save up. 😊
I had not doubt about buying one, but I also had no money. Worth saving for!
It would be nice if they made an adjustable skid that the wheel protruded from that only allowed it to take a 1/2" or 3/4" depth of cut per pass. Kind of like a wood jointer or planer.
I can see what you mean 👍
Nice job Ed. Not sure if it would help or not but how about a backup camera???
I've seen some folks do that. Something to consider, but I want to get used to using tit without, first. Thanks!
Hi Eddie, You referenced 2 movies in the first 30 seconds 😂!!! You are a great teacher! Gosh, it"s A LOT of work to set-up your stump grinder 😮. I am excited you now own a stump grinder...thats a handy piece of equipment! How large of a stump can you grind? Safety question: should you wear goggles? I do enjoy your videos!!! One more question: are you getting a larger tractor??? Comment: you didnt say the price 😮
Haha, good catch, mate! I think I’d be comfortable up to 16” diameter stumps.
I could have done that with my lawn mower. Over several years, and maybe mowers. ✌
Haha. Can you grind rocks too?
I may not have the time for that...@@MyClutteredGarage
Hello Ed! That looks like a great product, can you push backwards over stumps or do you find pulling fwd over them easier?
Thanks Ross. There are no teeth on the back side of the flywheel. So it’s forward only. 👍
people have been putting back up cameras and monitor to see
I've seen a few. I'll see how it goes before adding one. Thanks!
Nice Ed 👏👍💪🏆🏆👴🐕🚜🦌🤠😎🙏🙏
Thanks!
Maybe adding a backup camera might help
Maybe!
to much rock in my area in NE for one of these to function well. it would be beat to death in a few stumps or less so many rocks grown into the stumps or heaved up around them.
Wonder how much more difficult it would be without position control on the three point like a BX has. 🤔
*Keep on tractoring!*
The BX might be a bit undersized?
Do you still have this? Havent seen it in a while.
I do! I’ll be grinding more stumps soon!
from what i've seen from woodland mills product videos, you gotta lower it tiny bit at a time.
That’s what I’ve found too. 👍
Not sure you should pull the grinder wheel but rather use an up and down motion
It has cutting teeth on the front of the flywheel, so it is designed to pull forward. Seems to work well! Thanks!
Nice grinder. Kind of disappointing it came from the factory without proper torque on everything.
You ain’t joking about being a dull knife! Lol
🤣🤣🤣
I think it's one of those things I'd rather rent for the day (or two) and not have to store or care for...From experience
I’ll be cutting trees and grinding stumps as I go, throughout the year(s) so buying it made more sense for me. Renting it just paying someone is a good option for some though. Thanks for watching 👍
$2,400 !!!!!!!!! ?????
So painful to watch. There's nothing wrong with that grinder. This was all operator error. Once you learn where to start, how fast to move, and how deep you should go, you'll love this thing. Oh, buy an RV camera, set it on the back of the housing pointing down and you will see it all.
Tried to watch at least halfway, but the entire thing was cringe still couldn’t even watch video with the knife bs
