Hey Nathan, I'm the high schooler in this video. It was an honor to finally meet you after years of watching your videos. Thanks for the great experience.
Thanks for inviting Nathan and for letting him share this amazing video. Takes me back to my college days(before the internet). We had many guest artist come to our school and their impact was life changing. To watch, hear and interact with such players is a timeless experience. As the first TAMUK Sax president I'm sure you've felt the pressure that title brings, but keep pushing forth and line up great artist for your crew, as there are many amazing people like Nathan willing to share their gift.
Hi Nathan, I so enjoyed your visit to TAMUK video. So cool that you took time to inspire, motivate, and share your knowledge. In September I'll be 64 and can still remember my college music experiences. Having the opportunity to play and hang with the greats like Gary Foster, Don Menza , Pete Christlieb, Lew Tabackin, and many others was a life changer. You have such a positive and honest vibe that is so infectious. Keep doing what your doing and follow your dream!
I am old and came up playing 5 sets a night, 6 nights a week and learning from the older guys. But the jazz ed thing is really a better way and more inclusive and my feeling is that the competitions are not so negative for the players who do not win. I hope I am correct in my assessment of the scene. I think it is beautiful.
Im not sure if you remember but im the guy who asked you for tips about auditioning for my middle school jazz band. First off, thanks for the tips and also I GOT IN! i got in back in november and ive been playing with them ever since. We went to the national jazz festival in philly in february and are going to the western connecticut jazz festival in a couple weeks. I just wanted to thank you for your tips
I loved your sound on the Improvisation et Caprice! I just got done preparing that for a recent recital and I wish I could have had the sound and phrasing you had because it was excellent.
Nathan, you’re an incredible player and rapidly becoming a role model. Having represented some of the biggest names in Jazz, my advice to you is to consider toning down the bizarre aspects of your videos. That stuff works early on but much like an actor who gets “locked” into a character, you’re limiting some your long-term opportunities. Be yourself but realize that you’re rapidly stepping into the big leagues.
That was awesome. What a fun group…and I must say those school facilities look amazing. That high school kid will be on the money one day…10th grade and crushing it.
