Todd Barry Stand-Up 09/04/12 | CONAN on TBS
/ teamcoco
I really like this guy. His pauses before the sarcastic punch line are like that anticipation you feel when going over the crest of a roller coaster. He's one of my favorite.
he's big in iran
The comedy connoisseur
heavily underrated..
Adam S Taylor You're comment is heavily under-thumbed-up.
Competent stand-up
I'm not jazzed by it
It doesn't make me excited to be in this world

He's been killing it for years.
The way a surgeon cleans his scalpels line should have gotten a lot more.
that baby was wasted on them
25 years. One of the funniest comics ever. This was 4 minutes. Go see him crush an hour, live, you'll be a convert.
“Mayor cuts the ribbon”
That did it for me lmaooo
just got the louis ck email and came here to see how good this guy is.
I just bought the special and it's hilarious. It's just him talking with the crowds at a few of his shows. He's really funny when he's just talking with people. Very quick. It's definitely worth the 5 bucks.
dcraven725 thanks man, solid recommendation, will definitely be getting it.
Asif Khan he became one of my instant favs of all time on his comedy central special years back. definitely worth finding
I remember seeing this guy before 2000 on a half-hour special that just blew me away. He's really funny, especially with crowds. He did some "crowd work" in his Comedy Central 1/2 hour special that was priceless.
He reminds me of a character from a Doonesbury comic strip.
Omg yes! I know what you mean 😄
Never borrowing anyone's phone ever again.
If there was a sarcasm Olympics, this man and Kevin Pollack would be the gold medal showdown
The cutting boards bit was very witty.
Is your picture john scofield from when he played with george benson
I SAW HIM THIS PAST SATURDAY! Beautiful "buttery" voice.
this man is a hero of all servers everywhere
oh my gosh i was apprehensive because of all the dislikes but he's really good!! i don't get how this wasn't more well-received!
For people here deciding whether to buy the Louis CK produced Crowd Work tour... I can HIGHLY recommend it. Laugh out loud funny, much more so than the video here. I'm a huge fan of CK and not many other comedians. I'm now a fan of Todd Barry.
He's so good
I work in the service industry and found this set hilarious.
Check out his reading a letter from a fan. It’s fkn hilarious
I'm already a fan of his albums, etc., but haven't seen him live yet. Next time he's in the UK, I'll make an effort to go.
Love this guy!
the yelp thing had me rollin cuz i do that. came here cuz i'm a huge Dr Katz fan...
I've always liked Barry since the first time i've heard him, so underrated and yea, this crowd's lame.
He is the funniest guy on the planet!!
This guys been on some episodes of Louis on FX he's so funny.
If you visit Portland, OR and find a McMenamin's Bar, milkshake beer is the sh(ee)t!!!!
Obviously advice given is best served by people who have experience in knowing what they're talking about. So how many years of professional comedy experience do you have?
Incredible
If you can't appreciate the brilliant subtlety of TB, then go watch somebody like Dane Cook.
Experience does matter. If you have experience doing stand up to big rooms, or playing a sport at the same level, than yeah your opinion is valid. However if not then your opinion drops down the list, it's just reality because there's tons of opinions out there.
Did you just give a 20-year veteran comic advice on his timing? Did you? Unless you're zombie George Carlin, only the first sentence of your comment is valid.
Todd is great. King of dry.
No, I'm saying your opinion - "I didn't really like it" - is perfectly valid, as are your reasons for disliking him. But then you start to give Todd Barry advice on improving his act, which, given the man's experience and popularity, comes off as egotistical. Do you expect him to listen? What makes you think you know better? Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it has to change.
But this isn't to be taken personally, I don't know you, I'm merely responding to your comment. Cool?
The reason he's not as good as he usually is is because he delivers faster than he usually does. When he does his stand up routine, he pauses a lot more. and that suits his delivery better. His strong point is not the jokes themselves, but the way he tells them.
I completely agree. He must have had a very strict limit on this show. Anyway, Todd Barry is #1 for me :)
How has anyone cried? We're simply having a conversation. Yes, you can tell if food is too salty or sweet, it makes you qualified to say the food isn't to your taste. It doesn't make you qualified to tell him what he should change. Todd Barry might not make you laugh, but you certaintly aren't qualified to tell him what he should be changing. You have every right not to laugh, but to try to tell him what he should change is laughable.
Amazing funny
what a horrible crowd
to be fair a 2 minute bit on a talk show is incredibly tough to do and get great laughs, especially if the crowd aren't familiar with your act. its really hard to get a rapport with a crowd that quickly. I've never really gotten why comedians do these bits on talk shows, sem like they do more harm than good most of the time.
Did you get the latest Louis c k email bud
I drinked Milk Shake + Beer! Yea it's bad don't do it.
Are you related to Oliver Aguilar?
Had to ask, for the hell of it. Sorry! :3
Used to find the lemon slicing joke funny except now I'm actually someone who slices a lemon everyday to put in my water. No joke.
So dry I need some water
heh, haven't seen this guy for a while
Can you imagine that there's a lot of people outside the US that don't have the chance to see the full episodes and therefore cannot wait to watch those 5 videos every day?? Apparently not and yeah I know, you don't care..
Love Todd Barry but this wasn't his best set.
I've been watching Todd appear on Conan since the early years. He's been on the show a lot over the years. In 2021 Conan retired from late night, sad. But I also finally got to see Todd do stand-up in 2021, so, happy ending. Thanks for the happy ending Todd 😁
You don't need to be a chef to know whether your food tastes like shit, but you DO have to know how to cook in order to be able to know how to correct it. You don't have to be a stand up comedian to know what is funny, but you DO have to have stand up experience in order to understand crowd dynamics enough to make proper adjustments to your routine. You don't have to know how to act to know bad acting, but you DO have to know how to act to show that actor how to do a better job. I win.
We're not talking about a "point of view". As I have said, you are obviously welcome to have whatever opinion you want. Saying something or someone sucks, is absolutely fine. However, telling the artist, athlete, etc... how they should make adjustments to their game or to their art form. Is absolutely ludicrous for someone to do with no experience. That's all.
the stuff he can do on censored american Tv like Conan for instance, is nothing compared to what he's capable of
Maybe it's just brilliant satire!
Yes, when you disagree with me, it's just a conversation. However, when I disagree with you, it's; "CRYING". LOL... sure. I wasn't aware you were taking this conversation so seriously. I was simply having a conversation about comedy with you. I thought you were doing the same. I appologize for interrupting your sad state of life, in which you just criticize people, and bash those who defend the artists for expressing themselves. Have a nice life :)
You can't say it isn't funny.. you can totally hear people laugh in the video. So its funny. I don't get it, but its funny.
Kinda Funny!
Did make me chuckle
But not like or dislike worthy
Sure I will live my sad life where I consider other people's point of view, and expect them to do the same. I'd rather not live with a "KIM JUNG UN" mentality where I'd completely disregard someone's point of view because they are not "special" enough.
damn, just tought i found a great comedian after hearing him just describe belgium,hilarious......and to the fucking point.
will look a bit further, this one is..........no comment, don't want to start a new world war.our pilot of our f16 fleat is sick :)
the phone part was the only funny part imo
Lol you are the most uptight person I've talked to. It doesn't matter what. People have different perspectives, everyone's advice has its own weight. A person doesn't need some standard to give advice. Its an advice take or leave it. Crying about it is not one of the options.
Remind me not to give advice to old uptight dudes in the future.
im getting TIRED OF THESE ADS!!!
Oh my lord. You are so hilarious. You don't even realize that I AGREE WITH YOU on that point. No, you don't need experience to have an opinion. You need experience to tell someone how to do their job. That's all. Jesus Christ dude. Get a clue.
Its feedback/advice/telling someone how to do their job whatever you want to call it. No you don't need experience to have the freedom to give someone a piece of your knowledge. If I think that it will improve him I will tell, and I don't need experience to do that. Its up to the person to do what he wants with it. If he thinks its a stupid advice, its his choice to whether he wants to follow it or not. If movie makers only listened to other movie makers, they wont sell any tickets.
Meh... I understand what you're saying, but unless you've done comedy yourself. You have no idea what you're talking about. It's totally different than you think it is.
Along with the food analogy. You can tell if a food is too salty, too sweet, too bitter EVEN if you are not a chef. Just like with listening to a comedian. You can tell if his jokes seem too abrupt, too fake, has bad timing. What's with all these people who treat comedy like its heart surgery. It doesn't take much to see when a guy has bad timing, or when a guy doesn't deliver his lines with genuine motive. I know what I see, take it with a grain of salt, or cry about it like you both have done.
Bill Burr
Not that funny, If this is the best of this guys stand up he should stick to writing jokes for TV. To team coco:
if you want this channel to be a success please don't flood our youtube sub channels with 5 videos a day, pick 1 per day, the best for that day and you generate more interest in show and get more views.
That was lame
Didn't really like it. I think he needs to get his timing down and work on seeming genuine. His story feel scripted, comedians are funny because you feel like they are telling you something that actually happened to them not because they are telling you something funny.
Yeah, Todd Barry's usually quite funny. This material was pretty meh.
I turned my volume all the way up but still had to wear headphones to hear the guy. really wasn't worth it, not a good set. his breathing was annoying too.
So you are saying a 20-year veteran comic will always have a perfect timing, and will always know exactly what he is doing. So basically athletes, comedians, actors, and presidents should never listen to what other "lowly average" people think because their opinions are not valid.
Lol you're still butthurt about this? You don't need experience to tell someone's jokes don't work. As long as you are human, you can tell if someone seems genuine or not.
Do you know why the most successful companies spend a lot of money getting the opinion and input of people? Because they know each existential opinion/advice matters. They take it for what it is.
I will express my opinion and i will give my advice if I want to. Take or leave it. If your too egotistic to take it. So be it.
I have to agree. I've always liked Todd Barry, a whole lot, but this is the wekest stuff I've ever seen him do.
First
This is dude is creepy
Sunset48 You're an a-hole.
But he is creepy, that's why he's funny
This is perhaps the least valid criticism of anything ever
Wow, I was thinking of going to see this guy at Caroline's but now, ummm, yeah, I think I'll pass. This is what passes for "funny" nowadays? IMO, the only funny part was the funny way he said "Good evening" at the beginning. I know a lot of people who are funnier than this without even trying...and they're not even comedians. It's getting so difficult to find any funny comedians anymore; most of the good ones are either dead or not doing stand-up anymore. This is really sad. :(
...right, so when's he gonna tell a joke?
Can't watch this guy
By the time I'm getting into the joke, I start falling a sleep from monotonic hell
Lol you don't need to do comedy to know what funny is. Are you kidding me. Its like saying you need to be a chef to know whether your food taste like shit.
Its built into each of us. In comedy, just like food, each person knows what is funny. It just so happens that each person's opinion may refer to a specific demographic.
Lol this comedian and his fans are the biggest joke he ever made.
yikes
This guy had some funny stuff, but wasn't the greatest
