  • What about maintenance on your longarm? We always want to oil the hook/bobbincase assembly - one drop of oil on the little shelf inside the bobbincase area.
What about cleaning out under the stitch plate? If you've been using linty thread you can clean out using a brush in the bobbincase area but taking the stitch plate off makes things a lot easier. We show you how to take the plate off, clean inside and oil it. If you have an Infinity 26" Handi Quilter longarm the stitch plate removal is slightly different as there are cables for the thread cutter - you can watch our video of what you need to do on this UA-cam link. • Handi Quilter Infinity...
Maintenance of the carriage wheels is important for free motion working. Use wadding to clean the wheels.
We show how turning the carriage upside down you can also check out the Pro-Stitcher carriage cogs. If the cogs are squeaking against the track you can spray a little silicone onto the cog wheels.
Finally, what about the tension assembly? You can take it apart, polish the tension discs and reassemble. We do this when we do the bi-annual maintenance but you could do it yourself every year too if you wish.
We hope that you find the video useful.
    Happy Quilting!

Great video again this week. Thanks Liz and Pete. I religiously clean everything before loading a new quilt and oil with every new bobbin.

How difficult is it to actually remove the main frame of the machine so you can get to the undercarriage for cleaning?? Is this best left to Derek and Sandra at maintenance time?? I'd be afraid of messing something up or dropping it due to the weight. Thanks.

And does the bobbin cleaning apply to the Amara as well?? I recall instructions for oiling from the front, not the top???

The bobbin cleaning is normally done from the front. The top plate can be removed for removing the lint and while it's open you may as well put a drop of oil in from the top. It does the same thing. This applies to the Amara as well as the other Handi Quilter machines. The Infinity has a different stitch plate so it has to be removed differently.
